Will they produce Power? Join us starting and testing the Generators on the M/V STEVE IRWIN
Welcome to the heart of the Ship. The generator room. Nothing happens if the machinery in this room fails to operate. ultimately essential for operation, we test all three !

Testing The CPP Propellor system
Просмотров 50 тыс.21 день назад
Today we take a look inside the testing of the CPP Controllable pitch propeller. 5 years of inactivity could spell trouble for the system but we have hope that we can get it functional as this is one of the most important systems to work for the ship to sail.

DRONE CRASH!! +$20 REPAIR - FIMI X8 SE 2020. Will it fly?
Просмотров 2,1 тыс.4 года назад
In Depth step by step video of how I repaired my FIMI X8 SE 2020 drone for $20 after hitting a tree. Have you crashed yours? How did you fix it? This is the Glue I used www.permatex.com/products/adhesives-sealants/epoxies/permatex-steel-weld-epoxy-2/?locale=en_us
Very nice ! Im excited to see the process of bringing the old ship back to life. Remember seeing everything on Whale wars. Good Show.
Not that I'm a fan of whaling, but man I couldn't stand the crew on that show. They nearly got people killed several times, and I'd still like to know how they thought lobbing stink bombs was gonna stop a commercial operation.
Lmao just buy a new boat 😂😂 what a waste of time. This boat needs to be scrapped what a mess
Sad that it’s sat for so long, I hope Steve Irwin’s name ends up on a newer vessel to keep his great legacy going for future generations
👍🇺🇸⚖️👁️👁️⚖️🇺🇸👍👍👍
what model lister i am in the uk we have a few knocking about :)
@5:30 why is the shaft rotating against the direction of the arrow?
What’s the reason why this ship is getting such attention now? Did someone buy it?
Keeping sheep safe at sea.
26:30. The glass wasn’t cut out for the job.
Can you not control the pitch of the propellers individually to get one forward and one reverse ?
Those engines look like English Electric, with the green governors being Woodward.
Good job mate !
I'd love to see that and everything else as well
Syncronizing 3 phase generators are so cool, I really like to see that done with these generators.
Absolutely love it!! I work on much smaller versions of these.. But very fascinated by these huge beasts!!
How this things didnt wind up at the bottom of the ocean will forever be a mystery
Such a good video. Such a shame about half of it turned into a slideshow.
Like working on locomotive engines. If you already turned it over then you would know there wasn't anything to hydraulic it. Normally you open the cocks before you rotate it at all.
So no pre-start checks like you did on all the other systems? Fuel/ air/ cooling/ lubrication/ exhaust/ control/ start system/ clutching? that sort of stuff, unless it was off camera? Good vid. 👍🏻🇬🇧
Quite similar to the diesel frigate engines on the cat class I spent 8 years on. We had v16, turbo charged and inter cooled, giving 2000 hp and there was 8 of them. With one engine driving one prop we could make 10 knots. 2 engines driving 2 props 14 knots. 4 engines driving 2 props 18 knots. 6 engines driving 2 props 21 knots. 8 engines driving 2 props 24 knots. Just shows the amount of water resistance that can reduce the ships movement through water.
this is really eye opening to the "how it runs" of the Steve Erwin....thanks for taking us along
Three phase
Paxman engines, can't beat them!
Im not sure i understand what this vessel was built for. Anyone care to educate me?
Smoko😂😂.....I relate
So did they give up on saving the whales or did they get a new ship? Don't ever see anything about it after a few seasons on TV
For them who don't know: something about the history of the ship: ruclips.net/video/PsqWyhCPK9A/видео.html
Looking forward to seeing the synchronising video. Reminds me of one ship I was on where there was about a 30 second delay on the speed control for the oncoming generator - the unwary would crank the lever to the right to speed up the genny and on seeing no response would crank it over again, then give one really long speed-up command, only to see the first command increase the speed by the original requirement & then annoyingly see the synchroscope reverse direction on the second command, realising there was still the long speed-up command to come!!! What made things worse was we had a Chief Engineer who, just as you make the breaker to parallel the generators, delighted in turning off the compartment lights...(more than one apprentice would panic & open the breaker again...) "Happy with Synchroscope speed, happy with voltage & frequency...This time around... quarter to....ten to...parallelling NOW."..CLUNK (waits for lights to go out!) [Then are we transferring the load, or splitting the board???]
Really interesting but your voice over volume seems to be too low compared to the engine level making it hard to hear your explanation. 😢
It would be awesome if you could post some of The Steve's designs and manuals to the website so we could pour over them in between videos. I imagine there is a whole library of physical documentation onboard. The logbooks surely must be epic, also the maintenance records.
Nice progress. Please show how you make an AVR ;)
I was sad to hear she was going to be scrapped but am glad she wasn't.
More vidyas on the gennys, switchboard and synchronising please. I have done similar on land, it would be good to see how a ships power system is arranged. You lads are just at the wrong end of the country to me, I would well come over and lend a hand to you. All the best.
A welcome change in video _style_. All with an Australian accent and who doesn’t like that? I subscribed.
Happy memories of working on the RN island class back in the 80s
I'm no expert , but I can tell that the ship was well cared for in her previous life.
Well I'm on the ship, don't see you drinking with Paul on the back deck..slacker..
Still can't believe this was going for scrap - Just look at all that working kit, and how much it would cost for the components, let alone putting it all together and someone making a profit. Incredible considering its only a relatively small ship.
Brilliant. Please show the synch. method. I used to use the lamp lamps method, when they were extuinguished, THAT was the moment to close the switch. (the generator prime mover I used were Paxman, Russel Newburys and Ruston. Later we used Cummins and RollsRoyce Prime movers. (Factory Standby units. ( Semi Auto Synch.))
They are Paxman engines. What could go wrong indeed!
I remember that we had V12 Paxman Generators on 'MV Stratharlick'. They were a pain in the arse to start and we had to use "Bradex easy start" to get them going. The vibration of the units sometimes caused the Regulateur Europa governors to slacken off from their mounting bolts. At high loads the exhaust manifolds would be glowing cherry red! The only conclusion that I arrived at was fuel quality. They were intended to be used with gas oil but we were feeding them industrial diesel oil, the originality of which was questionable - a rusty old bunkering barge in Jeddah!
I worked in Jeddah for a few months, most things there were questionable.
How much would it cost to build this vessel today?
Yes show the synchronising 👍
Hi, brings back some memories of my time at sea as Engineer Officer. Putting Turbo Alternators in parallel when we were coming into port. The three white lights and Sync Scope pulling a big wooden handled breaker to bring in second Alternator. We sometimes had AVR problems,it needed to be adjusted with a super long screwdriver into the main board. Those were the days , NO HSE and ear defenders hahahah. Many thanks from Nr Liverpool.
Always fun when a starter sticks!! Seems most of the engines are air start, is there an electric start engine to run a compressor someplace? Just thinking of a cold dead start while not at the dock.
Usually...
So, I’m assuming it’s on shore power with no generators running? Also where does the compressed air come from? Is there a separate diesel compressor?
I vote for gen syncs
Not very green or climate friendly
