Making an I cord with a mechanised spool knitter
Просмотров 5283 месяца назад
This is cool little item I bought from EBay some years ago. It's a mechanised spool knitter for making i cords, made by a company called Kentoys. That assumes that it is for kids but it is a bit fiddly to use, but the results are amazing! It is a bit of trial and error with yarn and tension. I have found that the thinner yarns work best in it. I hope you enjoy!
Super quick loom knit icord

I cords are so easy for kids to make, but they are great for all ages! An I cord is basically a knitted tube that is typically made using just a few stitches. This video shows an I cord being made on a knitting loom. For ideas on what to use I cords for, head to my blog here - raffyandbee.com/the-versatile-i-cord-techniques-uses-and-creative-possibilities/

We called these knitting knobbies. They were simple and came with a short knitting needle to loop the yarn over the prongs. We had miles of this stuff in the attic from snowbound days. We used every piece of my mother’s yarn scraps. You can wind the cords into a circle and sew them together to make a chair seat cushion or a placemat. This is the first time I’ve seen a mechanical one. The ones we had as children were from the 1950s. I really enjoyed this video.

I remember doing this as a child using a wooden cotton reel (back in the day when cotton used to come on wooden spools). You knocked four nails in the one end evenly spaced out, made a loop with your yarn, wound the yarn round the nail shafts & looped the yarn over. Brings back memories.

Hi. There’s no row counter on these. I go by the size of the hat as I know how many inches to make an adult sized hat.

Next time when you do the rows of waste yarn, add one more row of a different color to the waste yarn. After you stitch your row around, pull through the extra single row, and the waste yarn comes right off, they have tutorial on this method. You only do this at at start of the project, not the beginning.
