CRF 250 X Top End Rebuild Tips And Tricks
Hey. I was just watching and noticed you said that the shims were worn. It's more than likely the valves themselves are worn. I think at the clearances you were getting, it's ready to drop a valve. Beware
@@kenkenny4238 actually the stock valves stretch and require a thicker shim to Take up the slack to the rocker . But yes ultimately the valves will fail
I have the same exact bike. I can use 10w30 or 10w40 for my engine & trans correct? Im new to dirt bikes. I came from riding street bikes. Thanks for the vid also partner 👌🏻
@@midwestpyros yes .. same oil both sides, use a good quality oil though, royal purple, Lucas ect . I always use something that is designed for wet clutches.
@@gripthistv1337 i ended up getting the pro honda hp race trans oil. Glad to know though ill keep that in mind👍🏼 thanks
That will work just fine
haha .. pulling the clutch without the cable... that was a bit silly to watch
Thanks my 230 stoped starting in gear with the clutch pulled in out riding today this helped me thanks
Our bikes all serviced all the time and they never start in gear
Great video, any thoughts on the bike now that you have had it for awhile?
Hey, appreciate the vid but have to point out a critical error when you referenced the factory specs. It’s .12mm PLUS OR MINUS .03mm (.09mm-.15mm) for intake and .28 PLUS OR MINUS .03mm (.25mm-.31mm) for exhaust. Important to get it right so don’t want anyone to be confused by that! Maybe edit the description?
This was so cristal clear for me. Thank you Sir. I took a page and draw a huge plus. I took out the valves after i mesured them and did the whole A+B-E=C calculation. Man the bike purred like a kitten. This was so great put toghether. I was scared because mine was like .02-.12 or something and that gives anegative number. I just did eczactly what you said and it worked like precise. THANK YOU !!! THANK YOU !!! THANK YOU !!! 😁😁😁😁😁
Did you get Ferran Cardus's crash by chance?
Stuart Stuckey sorry man I did not, my wife caught this one purely by fluke
🌟 promosm
Will this bike bum start if the starter or battery dies?
Lol not sure I haven't tried yet , I think I'm gonna buy the kick start for it
Need to get the bikes and iron kilt round there Ronnie Mini kilt
@ G Shaw I've been trying man !! Iron kilts a little gun shy after his injury lol thanks man appreciate you watching
Thanks, this was very helpful
Thanks for review, I've had my 2022 for about 4 months now and way better than my CRF250L. I too was puzzled by the 'traction control' button. Turns out it isn't, it simply changes the mapping / power delivery. Not that I'm sure it can do that much as its a carb bike, only the ignition timing that it can play with as far as my understanding goes. By all accounts to the forums it doesn't really make much difference but it deff isn't TC. Again thanks for the review from over the pond.
Thanks Nick Fry really appreciate you watching and commenting 👍
Rain mode makes it almost unstallable IMO. Pretty nice!
I’m on my 3rd Xtrainer here in Britain. Your spot on with your review. Never had a starter motor issue. Do recommend upgrade rear spring and the single spring in the front. Great review 🇬🇧
Thanks very much for your comment, I will definitely have to look at the spring upgrades. Ride on , cheers
Can you make a long term review video on the xtrainer please?
Hi yes I'm planning on doing a long term review probably in a couple months, I ended up fuckin my hand up and haven't been able to ride for the last little bit. Thanks for the watch and comments 👍
The hrs that I have put on it I really like it. If you ride lots of gravel road this isn't for u . Tight gnarly woods riding is where it likes to be
Thanks for the response! Coming from a kawi klx250 I ride in pachaug state forest in CT. I do use some fire roads to get to trails but it’s mainly all heavily rooted and rocky terrain. Going to pick the xtrainer up on the 27th
Did you reset your sag. How much difference handling did it make. Better or worse. Thanks .
thanks for the review, considering buying this as my first real bike. Does it have a map switch ? And i think you can get a kickstarter from Beta as an optional accessory?
No map switch it does have traction control, and yes you can get a kick-start for around 400 bucks Canadian. Sorry for the late reply my comments got turned off for a while
Not sure what we said at the beginning of this video, but I'm pretty sure we were like hang on bud .... ok bud .... let er rip !!!!
1. How tall are you 2. Did you sell the 250x
I'm about 5'9" packing a few extra pounds lol 😆 yes I sold my 250x , the kid next door has been bugging me for a while !!! Thanks for watching
Ok thanks have an 04 250x and your videos have and will save my and I'm completely with you for the no kickstart thinks my carb needs a rebuild and the battery got to low to crank the starter so the kickstart was a blessing to have I'm 5'7 12 years old and have a seat made by guys that lowers the seat height by about three inches. Love your videos😀😀😀
Sorry about my bad grammar.🤣🤣🤣
Was kinda sad to see the 250x go but onto new things. The 250x is a great bike , I've riden a lot of gnar on it
Hi I got them shims for £89 to Uk from USA.I never checked shims took it size they say.this explains a lot to why can’t get mine started.did carb clean a new jets new plug a coil stick a did valves a still wouldn’t start🤬🤬🤬so tomorrow I’ll be doing valves again but repair books say it the old point of a inch 0.12” a 0.28”
Hey there, thanks for watching and commenting! I believe 0.12-0.28 is the exhaust valves the intake are 0.03-0.12 if memory serves me. Just be real diligent with your feeler gauges, you'll get !!! Thanks
Check out one of vids that has the head replacement. I ended up buying a complete head from APE Racing out of California that eliminated all the valve adjustments thanks again
what length was the stock arm and what length was the aftermarket part?
Where is that single track it looks awsome
Vancouver Island buddy
Should be picking up a 2006 crf250x tomorrow, I can’t find the first 3 parts of this mod can you please post a link. Thanks and nice job on the video
Hi there, thanks for commenting and watching my video. What u want is a JD Jett kit it has everything u need . Go to jdjetting.com part # is JDH003 It has complete and easy to follow instructions. Your not on Vancouver Island are u ? I have a guy coming to look at my bike tomorrow, mabey just a coincidence idk . Thanks again
I have on 2004 and whenever I wash it I have to take off the seat and put a piece of plastic over where the previous owner cur the airbox if i dont the filter gets wet
Hi there, I wonder if mabey they cut to much of the air box out ? I've never had a problem with the filter getting wet .. thanks for the comment
Yea they cut the airbox so big you can almost remove the filter
Think it would be worth it getting a new air box and making the cut out smaller?
Maby it's pretty easy to cover it up you take off the seat cover the airbox and put the seat back off. Buy the way thanks for responding so fast
No problem thanks for checking out my videos. U could cover it make sure to leave some opening from my experience they just don't preform very good all closed up
Thanks for the video, I forgot about the trans oil, good reminder to change that too.
No problem mate thanks for the comment 👍
Gracias 👍
If you remove the rear brake wire by unplugging it you can raise the sub frame much higher
How tall are you? And how much did it lower? Thanks
I'm 5 foot 10 in and it lowered about an inch or so .. thanks for the question
🤘🤘
Thanks for the vid Man U need more subs
Thanks man ! I'm trying
So I had a similar situation but it was dripping instead of gushing and it was on the left side crankcase. I was 30 miles away from the trail head. No one had jb weld. I ended up using my first aid kit. Cleaned it up and due to the heat the medical tape was seared to the engine. I made it back with not one more drop lost. I don't go any ride without my jb weld.
Hey @ Darren Gunnell yes I never leave without my jb anymore.! JB also makes what they call a steel stick, 2 part , just mix in your fingers and good to go .. thanks for the comment 👍
Hi Ron, Scott’s nephew in Scotland here
No shit !!!! Thats awesome !!
How did u see my channel? How did you know it was your uncle??? Old iron kilt ..
@@gripthistv1337 he sent me name of your account to subscribe to
Awesome bud thank you so much.. I'll keep more videos coming
@@gripthistv1337 look forward to seeing them!!
nice one bud !
Hi Ron I was wondering how you where getting on with your new cylinder head glad to hear it's all good I'll definitely check out ap racing when it's time for a new head cheers Phil 👍
Hey Phil, glad to hear from you. Hope that was a decent explanation of how much I like this part . Cheers bud thanks for watching! Ron Ton Won
Hi Ron if you went big bore would you consider changing the camchain and checking the con rod it will be interesting to see what you decide and how you get on all the best from Yorkshire England cheers Phil
Hey Phil!!! I can not find a big bore kit anywhere!!! Covid has screwed everything up from getting parts from the USA. I put a new piston in while I was changing the head anyway just cus we gone that far , might as well... What would you do with the timing chain?? New one ?? Cheers Ron Ton Won
Hi Ron I have a 08 X in the UK I like watching your video's and will be interested to see how you get on with the new head Looks like the way to go all the best Phil
Thanks Phil, appreciate the comment. uploaded a vid today with the tear down, now after looking at the piston,,, well i wont ruin the next vid for you. lol thanks from across the pond , really apreciate it. from Lake Cowichan British Columbia Canada
Kill the radio in the background and your videos will be much easier to follow. fwiw
Thanks for the comment. I will try that
So your original sim was 1.86 .. and you say it was wore down .. and you replaced it with a 1.77 or 1.80? That doesn’t make much sense..
A it’s not in mm it’s 0.12” 0.28”
This isn't a great "how to video" mate. I appreciate your frustration tho
Ya hello. Cool ride along vid 👍
Ya Hello!!!!
Helpful but one question, is that in you’re living room?
Well ya !! What a better place to work on bikes. No its actually in my basement lol thanks for the comment bud 😁
Got a 2005, no airbox mod. Did drop a 150 main and raised the needle one, big difference!
Do the airbox dude ! Will not regret! Could even go a little bigger on the main 158-160
I'm going to do the same as you did to my 06. It starts up cold but takes long time to warm up. I have to use choke half up and down by hand (what a pain). When warm its a really nice bike with slight big when accelerating. Hope it does the trick. Mine has 72 hours since 06
Awesome !! Let me know what u think after the mods .. I'm truly impressed, and make sure u check your valve clearances on a regular . Mine has 125 hrs on it , I think I'm gonna replace the valve train soon .
I forgot to ask ..did you have to adjust carb cable at the carb ... I had to when I reset the needle clip with jetting
Absolutely man . They can be a bitch! Did u get it all done ??? Hows it running?? As good as u though, or better ??? 😁😎
Cable was a bitch ahah ya it’s done finally snaps back enough at first the cable had no spring back .. haven’t poored new gas in yet putting new electric starter on it should be good soon brother I let ya know thanks
Over filled my trans oil I think. No shifting into gear.
No I’m asking will too much trans oil will it not shift into neutral???
I would have to say your problem would be elsewhere. Though to much oil is not recommended. Check the clutch cable adjustment or the cable itself. What kind of oil are you using in the tranny??
Picking up a 2006 within the next few days. Your videos have been very helpful. Did you replace the exhaust?
Thanks man .. no new exhaust just took the baffle out. Kept the spark arrestor in though.
Just picked an 06 250x yesterday. It looks like they already opened the air box but I highly doubt they jetted it. When I accelerate the bike literally dies. I think it’s the jets, already have a JD jet kit on the way I hope it’s just that. Did you experience that at all prior to jetting?
@@4estrnr472 yes the bike is pretty flat without the jetting done , I believe the stock main jet is a 135 . Easiest way to check, is loosen the rubber boots ,turn carb clockwise, undo the bolt on the bottom of carb and take the jet out. I think it's a 6mm socket. Thanks for watching
Do you remember if the red needle came already set to the 5thclip right out of packing. I think it did I installed it now before I put gas in bike I’m second guessing it .. may have to take apart? I’m pretty sure it was preset to 5th clip position?
Mine was set already to the 5th position as well right out of the package.. I think it's the way to go myself. Thanks for the question
Horrible explanation
Wow mean
With the airbox mod can you go ride in small streams and wet trails or when its rainy outside or water will enter in your airbox?
Absolutely!! There was only one small area behind the rear fender that I decided not to cut out just for that reason. Keep your air filter clean and oiled properly just for peace of mind. Cheers
@@gripthistv1337 thanks really appreciated!
I forgot to ask - did you change any with stock needle ? And if so what is the setting U may have said it not sure
Yes you do have to change the needle . I believe it's the red needle and the retainer clip in the 4th or 5th position. Just follow directions from jd jetting kit it tells you everything you need to know. I've found I had to go 1 size bigger of a jet 160 just because of my exhaust. Thank you I really appreciate the feedback 🤟
