population density definitely helps! together with government policies in support
and the entire population of Norway resides in what a 40 mile radius???
Hi @jeffprice6421, thanks for your comment. That is a fair point, the density of Norway definitely helps. In all small countries the transition is generally easier to accomplish. Think that in Hong Kong for a year over 70% of the new vehicles sold were electric, due to a policy put by the government (no registration tax on new EV, which normally is a pretty high one in HK).
That's from a narrow perspective where you're only considering your consumption with no concern about the requirements of production, and delivery of the electricity. It also doesn't appear you've factored in the costs of repairs and maintenance, which is much higher with electricity vs fossil fuels. In addition, it might be smart to factor in the inevitable rise in the cost of electricity. Generating stations don't grow on trees.
Hi @Ephbaum, thanks for your comment. It's true the cost of electricity is destined to go only one direction, up high. On the maintenance cost, at the moment on hydrogen there is very little literature. On EV they are actually lower compared to fossil fuels (less moving parts), but if you want to switch battery pack lets say after 8 years or 200k miles, then yes, the overall costs might be definitely higher
