Just lazily documenting my journey as a track junkie.
Decent pace with P.B. Tidewater Sports Car Club. Purple VIR Full. 12/7/2024
Session #3. Battling a front splitter that was trying to...split. (Got black flagged). Held together with .41 bailing wire to the bumper it held on for 3 sessions. This was a good session for me to study mistakes and positives. It was a good weekend to end the year and come back to see what else next year holds. Damn good way to end the year!

3 Lap mini session. A now beaten P.B. Of 2:10.88 on the last lap. The 20-degree cold had its challenges on track. It took a full 2 laps to get proper heat into the 200tw Dunlops. I just received the car back from a proper track alignment. So I was getting used to the cars manners. The shaded parts of the track (trees, etc.) made those sections of track have definitively less traction than the f...
FINALLY, 2:10.12. Tidewater Sports Car Club Virginia International Raceway Purple group. 12-7-2024

I finally was able to achieve the elusive 2:10! I am proud of myself on this. Over the last 2 days at VIR with 20-degree weather, I was able to break into that time. The cold helped and hurt. Turns 4-6 I have a lot of time on the table left. I still have not connected everything together, but I was happy I felt I was not pushing the car hard, which meant to me there is still much to achieve.
Crazy Session! Track Daze Labor Day 9/1/2024 Session 2 Vir Full Yellow Group

My Car: E90 M3 Log Jam city. I must have scared that red C8. He almost wrecked 2x in front of me. He had no taillights either. Got that point by, though. A whoopsie from miata. It still managed to be an ok weekend. there were just some drivers that needed a little more time in a lower group imo.

Welcome to the shit show. My Car: E90 M3 There were so many issues in this group. I seriously hate to be negative. Because life is short. Some people in this group were doing the opposite of being safe and predictable. Some needed IMO to be in a lower group, not because of pace, but because of on track awareness. I would rather be slow and predictable than unpredictable. A few other drivers and...

Advanced group, session #2. First lap is the out lap. warming these Dunlop Direzza's up. It was a 90-degree day. The tires are heat cycled out. So, I scaled back to just having consistent laps.

Advanced group. Managed a personal best. The car was pushing a lot. I had to manage tire temperatures and pressures. I was cautious initially as this was the first time running with DSC off. I am going to move my braking point on the back straight to the carousel to 3.5 or 3. I am aiming for a 2:14-2:15 with cooler weather this fall.
Sawing through traffic.

Man, you were not there. Go on somewhere with that bs.
"You have to lift!" Love it... and I feel your pain!
Nice work. That 2:10 is right around the corner. Well perhaps I should say within a few sessions to find a little here and little more there. That 2:10 is very much in your reach.
Thank you. It will be a big accomplishment (to me) if I get it.
There is nothing worse than being in a group of unaware drivers. And it seems that Track Daze did little to vet out the driver or to even do any kind of inspection of cars. I did an event with them back about 12 years ago at NJMP and they were like that then. I know going with a BMWCCA chapter sometimes seem to be over the top with rules and instruction (teaching) but I’ll take them over a lot of the commercial event organizers just because I have seen very little crap like that out on the track, in any run group. Hope your next event goes better. BYTW - VIR is a bucket list of tracks I would like to visit.
I agree with the vetting, I also think that working through issues in drivers meetings and 1 to 1 respectful talk should encourage introspection and better awareness... I have run with Track Daze multiple times over the years. I was only there 2 out of the three days. After bringing up issues, it was basically said to get a check ride up to black group, amongst other things. I will next time. I just want to be made sure that this was not about $$ but a gross oversight. I'm not sure it's the case. I have done events with BMWCCA as well, yes, they are big-time sticklers on rules and behaviors, but I have never and most likely never will have an event like this with them. I will give another event a go with them, but if things stay the same, my $$$ will go elsewhere. Most likely to VIR Club.
@@m3anzcp050 Hope your next event is better. I got a chuckle out of their reaction being to move you to another group. That’s OK if you are ready to move up. However, their reaction should have been to say that they would make the effort to improve the driving of the group you were in. Not the sort of mentality of an event organizer I would be involved with. Stay safe out there.
I should have complained as well. Red corvette blocked me a couple of times and he brake checked me in nascar one time and I went two wheels off.
I have 2 more recorded sessions of 8/31, including a couple of 9/1. They are all as silly as the worst I captured. I hope they take these recorded actions of others and hold people accountable to everyone's safety. I know the inherent danger of track driving. I also understand how they (track daze) can distance themselves from incidents. But they guy in the #33 c8 having NO TAILIGHTS! c'mon.
Can't tell you how many times that's happened to me in yellow. Made the jump to black this last event and I could not be happier with the level of driving.
I am doing one more event with them this year. I'll get a check ride to black on the last day. There were just too many folks who respectfully did not need to be in this group.
Those Corvette drivers pissed everyone off this weekend.
Not all of them. There was a lady in a red C7 who was cool. (not the infamous Red C8 #33).
I am the one in the Red RX8. I do think the intermediate level should have good situational awareness and traffic management. I certainly hope I wasn't holding anyone up, I tend to think I err on the side of giving point bys even when the person behind doesn't want it yet. And even in a lower power car, I still lift throttle to expedite the pass when necessary.
I was around you a few times this weekend. When I saw your car I knew you had awareness, and there would be no issues. I agree with your statement totally. I would share the track with you any day brother.
@m3anzcp050 Same. Thanks for posting the video, always cool to see the session from another perspective.
Very poor driving on the part of the C8. You did the correct thing by coming into the pits and letting track officials know. I heard several complaints this past weekend about drivers of fast cars not allowing faster drivers to pass. I'd like to see drivers demoted for poor behavior, particularly if there is video evidence. Put the driver in a lower group and make them take a check ride to move back up, or sit them out for a session and have a longer talk with them. There are too many drivers that have moved up, but don't have the skill or etiquette to be solo or advanced. It is up to the organization, TrackDaze in this case, to enforce better driving and behavior.
Nice work.
Thank you.
Holy shit. Here's a point....floors it. Good lord. Vette and Mustang. WTH with the Z at the beginning on the f. straight with the signal to the wrong side and almost pushed the guy off.
I nicknamed our yellow group the "shit show." People learned to stay away from the C8's and a couple other cars. One dude had a rock thrown from that very C8 that cracked his front window. It was stupid silly.
@m3anzcp050 ill be there in Oct with TD...yellow group...
@@m3anzcp050 did this get hashed out in the classroom session?
@karstgeo7290 I believe it will be better. I'm sure they take safety seriously. I will be there too. If they continue allowing this behavior, I will go to the red group. Or take my $$ to another event. I go average 10x a year so their loss.
@@karstgeo7290Yes, another guy and I brought it to their attention. It had little effect.
That was definitely an interesting event. A few people in yellow were in over their heads. Was good meeting you and watching you blast past me a couple times on track, lol. You looked good out there!
It definitely made me more aware. It was great to meet you too. You have a nice car and your lines are good brother. Hope to see you out there again!
Nice lap! I think T4 (use ALL the curb) + Hog Pen are your next lowest hanging fruit. Should have a 2:11 if you can do those - I was working on Hog Pen myself all weekend, didn't get the consistency down but was starting to feel it at the end of the day Sunday.
Thanks for the advice. I have been figuring out grip with the setup.
Strong work!!
Great driving. Wish we had more information though. Engine sounds great, but what is it? What type car?
I believe it’s a BMW M3 E90 competition.
I can help you out with information on that track and track night in America in general. What would you like to know? The car is a 2011 M3. It has the only V8 they put in a M car. Very good track car.
Save it!!
Ben! 128 guy here. Looking good.
