Dr. Dennis Fisher has been playing banjo for over 50 years. His approach can take you from almost no musical knowledge at all, to the place of playing pulse-pounding bluegrass which sounds like a hammered dulcimer on steroids. He was privileged to study bluegrass banjo under Warren Kennison, Jr. who helped the legendary Earl Scruggs develop his instruction manual. Having professionally taught banjo, Dennis also has performed for Ronald Reagan and played with music groups around the world. Several years ago, Dennis was asked to adapt banjo songs on the ukulele for a student at the Strum Shop where he works in Roseville California. This was life-changing as Bluegrass Ukulele Celebration was born!

Grandfather's Clock | Bluegrass Ukulele | Dr. Dennis
“My Grandfather’s Clock” was written in the late 1800’s. It tells the story of the special connection between a man and a clock as he experiences childhood, youth, adulthood, marriage, old age and finally death. The music technique of harmonics show how a high tone released from the instrument can sound like a clock chiming.

A Burgundian Carol | Bluegrass Ukulele | Dr. Dennis
I really appreciated the historical explanation. It had never occurred to me that "Buffalo" referred to the place. So many English folk songs refer to jobs like weaving, washing, gutting fish and making nails or brooms, all considered "women's work" that I thought this was either about buffalo hide processing or native American women's clothes, based on Bob Marley's 'Buffalo Soldier' though I think that was actually about African American soldiers :-/
I recently purchased that gold tone Banjolele. It is totally amazing.
Is there a way to transpose standard 5 string banjo tabs for use on a 4 string ukulele/banjolele?
Is there a string set for this tuning? LOVE me some Gold Tone!
I want to play bluegrass ukulele like what you just played!!
Love it. I love bluegrass especially. I want to learn bluegrass on my ukulele!
I am very interested in your ukulele lessons.
Beautiful. I just started playing four string ukulele this past month and I’m loving it. Just found your channel today.
No such thing as bluegrass ukulele. Its not a bluegrass instrument. Peroid....end of story.
Someone forgot to tell Roy Clark.
brilliant playing
I hope you are well. Visiting your channel I have seen your all videos and content are very good but your video SEO optimization is not professional. Perhaps you are busy for managing the channel.
Hopefully you'll be able to find a "bluegrass ukulele" jam because any real bluegrasser is going to shun you or laugh you out of the jam. Ukulele is not a bluegrass instrument. Just get a mandolin
Thanks for the lesson, history and especially for the encouragement. God bless 🙏✌️😃🎵
I get high G strings made for the baritone and do the same thing ur doing on the tenor. I’m playing clawhammer style on mine mostly for old time music.
I really enjoy all your videos and have been going back and watching a lot of your old and new as im learning to play I'll mention this to you in one of your newer videos because I've noticed you're still not doing this but I think it's manly because you just haven't noticed but could you please lower the camera down just a little as much as we love seeing your face 😊lol and need to, to get your message it would be really helpful if we could see 👀 your fingers 👉 because like in this video 📹 it was little help with the picking because I couldn't tell what you was doing . Thanks so much for all your videos 😊
Hi, I've discovered your channel this morning after having a slightly crazy idea last night. Kmise have introduced a very reasonably priced tenor banjole. With new uke string technology, I think it could be tuned in fifths like a fiddle, octave mandolin or Irish Tenor banjo, GDAE and the rest is obvious... :-) "Buyer beware", I haven't tried this (yet!) Alternatively, a soprano uke has the same scale length as a violin and I've seen videos of that in action.
Is this a bari uke? Thank you.
I have a banjolele but didn’t know some of this info. Thanks for this. Also, might I suggest you lower your camera so we can see you play?
I have a baritone uke. I will not play anything else. It is also good for bluegrass.
Beautifully played, Dennis
I’ll have to pull out my banjolele and dust it off.
Interesting history lesson, thank you. One thing, you want folks to sign up for your programme, do you not think you might sort out your video quality first? It was really terrible (sound was perfect) when I watched it today.
COINCIDO CON VARIOS AUDITORES.¡ QUE PENA QUE EN LOS VIDEOS NO SE VEA TU MANO DERECHA. LA QUE PUNTEA, RASGUEA Y EJECUTA RAPIDOS ARPEGIOS.... CORRIGELO, SI PUEDES. SERA EXTRAORDINARIO. FELICITACIONES Y GRAN ADMIRACION A TU ARTE. GRACIAS.
This is beautiful. Do you have the chords?
Is there a Banjolee tuned as a Baritone Ukulele?
I dig this and this old guy.
I love your singing you are such a nice guy
A really lovely song, thank you for sharing and teaching this ukulele version, it really does fit the ukulele beautifully and I look forward to playing it.
Super job. Brings back memories of that time.
Exemplary! Do you have this tabbed out?
TOTALLY BUTCHERED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Great tone on the Uke, Dennis. Super chord melodies. :-)
Would love to see the beautiful pickin I’m hearing. Nice playing.
Do you do zoom lessons
Hey Doc, am I getting this right-- slack key uke tuning translates to 5-string banjo capo'd at the 5th fret? And is that open G for the banjo or double C? Thanks
Incredible! 👏
Hello there... I am wondering if your 6 month course is also for Banjolele? And also if it is for beginners? I have never played a stringed instrument before (I took piano lessons like 11 years ago but haven't played an instrument since then) so I was wondering if I would be a good candidate for your course? And I love bluegrass music and love the sound of picking and would love to learn how to do that!
That’s the way I learned it, ‘Yankee Doodle’ into the first breakdown 😎👍
Wish the camera angle showed your strumming hand
promosm 🌺
It's so neat seeing your performances on You-tube. It's like, "Hey, I know that guy!" LOL.
Thanks for the info !
Lovely! :) Which banjolele brand are you playing?
Ho, congtarulations, you are vero Good, can i knowledge the title of first song? Thank you
You sound great. Haven’t heard that in years. Keep it up!!!
𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐦𝐨𝐬𝐦
Great stuff.
What a cool instrument! Great tune.
so im interested in the second one, the banjolele, just making sure is it a tenor as well?
Pretty nice I got my own ukulele and can barely learn a song because I cant move my fingers fast
