Spyder Compact 2000 Java Edition Breakdown
Hi, one of mine markers fire normal without barel, and when i put back the barell it just click, sound same like firing without compression What' the catch ? Thanks for this video it's good one 👊
I have one and it still works!
I have a very old Tippman 68. I am noticing that your markers have an air path that is significantly farther back towards the trigger guard than mine is. Seems interesting.
Interesting all all the 68 carbines we have seen it is always in that location, as that is were the valve is located in the marker.
I had one of these They were terrible on seals and jammed up constantly
You must have had a lemon! Lol
Im trying to find info about the rearmost (valve?) spring on my Sl-68 II (pre-09). Any measurments of the length, I.D/O.D or spring rate/weight would be helpful. Trying to rebuild and troubleshoot.
I do not have any new springs to reference for you in the collection. A used spring will have a bit of difference in those specs.
@@GeneralPaintballMuseum Any measurements of any spring that allow the marker to function would be helpful, even if it's a replacement part. My example had what looks like a replacement for an Sl-68 (orignal) and it provides enough force to allow the hammer to cock but not enough to hold the valve securely shut when the system is pressurized.
I have of these, but the barrel seems to be longer. Serial number 0401
There were several barrel sizes available. You have an early production marker! Thanks for watching!
What’s the point of changing the orange rubber ? What does it do ?
The orange rubber is the ball latch. It keeps paintballs from rolling down the barrel. Thank you for watching!
@@GeneralPaintballMuseum how often do you have to change it ? Let’s say I have 2 groups of people a week playing
i had the lower one when i was a kid not that exact one but still
my case was the later edition
That is awesome, thank you for watching!
@@GeneralPaintballMuseum honestly i just got a 98 custom for a steal on ebay 35 bucks
MUSEUM ?😳? That's not how you should speak to people my friend 😂
This marker being produced in 1986, in paintball years it belongs in the museum collection! Haha Thanks for watching!
@@GeneralPaintballMuseum Oh, you're not talking to me, but my SMG ? I'm not sure if that makes it any better 😏 😂
Well done, excellent video, in process of doing my first rebuild. Thank You.
Thank you for your support!
I was one of the original Rangers and played along side of some really great players. I’m glad to see the tank is going to good hands. It truly was an amazing creation even by today’s standards. Seems like a lifetime ago we were running and gunning along side it. Looking forward to seeing it back in action. Thanks…. Ranger #7 Doc
That is awesome! It really is a masterpiece, tons of hard work went into this tank! Thanks for your support! We will add updates as they are available.
Very cool piece of history. I was always happy to play with them and against them!
Awesome
Wow!
This channel is so cool. Long live the tippmann
Glad you enjoy it!
This made my day. Jay from PB Sports is a hell of a guy. I'm glad he's been able to contribute so much. He's kept many of us Angel fans up and running for two and a half decades now. He's a good dude. I'm Brandon. I chimed in with the extra donation. I just couldn't stand the thought of another gorgeous piece of paintball history just sitting on a collectors shelf. So when I saw Shawn's generous offer, I figured why not add a few extra bucks and get this into a museum where everybody can enjoy it? I just wanted to make Shawn's offer the obvious choice. Hopefully we can keep small contributions like this coming along. Best of luck. I'm glad it arrived safely and as advertised.
Thank you for your support! Jay is the best
It’s not the sear that makes them full or semi-auto. It’s the trigger.
You know, you are right! Dang it Weltman where were you in the editing room! Haha Thanks for bringing that to my attention.
They were notoriously difficult to chronograph which was convenient as back when these were in use, you normally shot the closest tree and if bark flew off you had to put it back in the car. Chronographs becoming commonplace were the death of these guns. Many of the rental and private SMG 60s that I personally knew of were converted to Tippmann 68 Specials by Tippmann right around 1988/89 after they were banned at most fields due to insurance issues. About that time other semi auto paintball guns were coming out, so the market started to see a wider selection anyways. I remember a game at Wayne's World where a guy had two of these mounted to a "APC" with belts he was able to make with some sort of resin. Surprising they fed better than expected due to the long feed tray he had on both paintball guns. I remember them blowing o-rings during one of his sustained encounters and then they were down the reset of the 24 hour game, but it was a hoot to see.
Fantastic story! Would have love to see that belt fed modification! Thank you for watching!
Mde my job much easier with this! Thanks for the video
Thank you for watching, we appreciate the support!
I wonder why Tippmann post 2010 never opted to recapitolize on this marker .
The technology that these use is well outdated by today’s standards. Also the manufacturing end on how these were built is from my understanding outdated also. It is a cool part of history and has many innovations of that time.
Expensive technology and the fact that other magazine fed .68 caliber paintball guns had made it to the market by then such as the RAP4 T68 likely killed any real interest in an updated version of the SMG60. As mentioned by the videos author, the SMG60s were an interesting take on early rapid fire paintball guns in an age when mostly pump guns ruled the fields. You have to remember that Tippmann wasn't a big company with tons of designers, it was a small company that started making guns mostly from scratch and eventually became the company to beat for a number of years before they became stagnant on one segment of the paintball community to their eventual mediocrity. They were innovators early one, but didn't retain that title through the years. Some would say that they leaned on their previous laurels too much.
Expensive tech ? Forgive me if i am incorrect. Disregarding the orange feeder shells. The operation of the marker led to the pro carbine and 98 variants. As tippmann built up its portfolio from 86 to 2010. The inline blowback is probably the most inexpensive operation to build around a markers operation. Even the 98 can be moddled around sear tripping full auto.
@@magfedacex at the time in 1986 blowbacks were not common and semi automatic was not big yet. However the cost at that time for an SMG 60 was $330+ and was banned because it shot too fast! The later models of Tippmann were still relevant till the late 1990s / early 2000s were the blowbacks were being phased out. Tippmann did have a few potential upgrades to there markers with the Crossovers/ phenoms/ and TiPX. But quickly went back to blowbacks after the company changed hands a few times.
@@GeneralPaintballMuseum i get that. At the time. But we are nearing 40 years later. And we are still using the same technology. Thats why i asked. Post 2010 . Why hasnt tippmann created a modern .68 cal version of this . Lol i feel like everyones input is 1986 not 2010 and beyond haha.
Sell this to me
These had so much potential. If only they'd made a better feedneck design. Also the non reciprocating handle for a rental is frustrating as a ref.
These definitely made maintenance easier compared to the 98 series!
🥱
Is there anyway to make a siphon tank ?
Yes, you can add a macro line fitting to the inside of your tank and a long piece of macro line with a weight added to the end that will allow it to stay at the bottom.
Is this compatible with modern SL68 internals?
Some parts are interchangeable but not all.
What’s the average fps on a autumn day?
With liquid co2 280-320fps
Thank you the. If converted to pcp possibly around 350-385?
@@Jaemon4Evaif converted to HPA it should be around 300fps
@@GeneralPaintballMuseum thank you
The new ones crack by the screw for the barrel. Mine broke entirely in two
So with the changes or iterations of the 68 carb. Would it be safe to say that the 98 was vetted to be the quick replacement marker option ?
I would believe that the Pro Carbine would have been the replacement of the 68 carbine as it was still in production till around 2004.
Can I run the pro carbine on compressed air or only on co2
You can run HPA but it must be high pressure output.
Does this take HPA? Or only co2?
Hello, it was designed for CO2 but will work with HPA, need a output of 800+ psi
@@GeneralPaintballMuseum can you make a video on where the velocity adjuster is?
@@Hoodville13 I will do!
Thankyou! No company in paintball can have been as diverse as this. Brilliant :) I hope they return to form soon. Was hoping for a 25th anniversary 98 or something by now. I also forgot about those electronic hoppers too.
I appreciate your support! I hear rumors of a 25th anniversary 98!
How many different types of hopper were there? I have some modern looking Tippmann 50's but not sure what they're from? Possibly SL68ii Mk2? I love the idea of having the right hopper for the correct Marker and has now set off my OCD haha
I am aware of 9 different types of Tippmann hoppers. I guess I should make a video on Tippmann hoppers! Lol
@@GeneralPaintballMuseum Is the Factory FA hopper the same as early a5's? You need a video :D

Hello I just acquired an Ebolt and was wondering if there was any seals in the ram that need to be changed overtime?
There are seals in the ram, however many rams do not come apart for servicing.
@@GeneralPaintballMuseum Was wondering because my Ebolt hammer the silver piece hangs forward a little bit so I think a part of the spring inside broke or is worn out. Any fix??

I'm doing a build on a 98 my buddy gave me. Don't know much but learned a lot, rebuilt it all and as I tried it she just hissed and hissed. Confused as to wtf was happening I realized I could stare at the air hose coming in the valve and went oooh shiii. This video answered everything I needed to know seems I'm missing the flat plate on the barrel end of the valve. Thanks
Oof cringe sports reporter.

So FREAKING AWESOME!!!!!!!
Thank you for watching and the support!
Good video, thanks for the help. Do you know where I can get a Rear(short) Valve Plunger that goes in the valve body? My gasket was damaged and is leaking co2.
Thanks for watching! The valve parts are becoming hard to find for these, I do not sadly have any recommendations on were to find them.
I tried to build my own gasket, my first attempt held for a for shots but failed. I have another solution that I will use and build another gasket. I will let you know how it goes.
I've always been impressed by that Hush bolt for these, seems to make major difference to performance.
It is an impressive product!
I'd love to see a series about the timeline of different Spyders.
It’s on the list! Thanks for watching!
Does the pro carbine take A-5/X7 parts? Or is it an entire beast of it's own?
It’s parts are unique to older markers like the 68 carbine. However newer markers like the a5/x7 do not fit the pro carbine. They do share the same ball latch!
