Great memories Homemakers The Nags Head closed just before covid lockdown. Michael Duane headmaster of Rising Hill school. Harry Fenton's clothes shop in Old Street station.. The underground toilets at The Angel..
6.32 Had a Saturday job for about 10 years in the Curtain and Drapery shop. Established in 1870 and still in the same family in 1970. It hadn’t changed much inside since the days of Queen Victoria and a sold a great variety of things you never hear of any more - scrim, gimp, buckram, millpuff, kapok - to name but a few. They still made feather beds too, which I had to make and then deliver by taxi. And until the mid 1960’s it had a WW1 vintage phone, with separate ear piece and speaker. Also they were one of the few places in the country back then making roller blinds and selling the spring rollers. Notorious for pre-decimal prices like ‘four and eleven pence halfpenny’ and before that ‘six and eleven pence three farthings’.

3:36 is Mandeville Houses where my Aunt Flo and Uncle Paddy lived with my cousins. It is now the site of the Sainsbury's on Liverpool Road. If you know Chapel Market look out for Chapel Place, it used to lead into the flats from the market and is where this picture would have been taken, it is now just a little closed off cul-de-sac.
I was struggling to remember what it looked like on the other side of the high pavement and it has been bugging me for years. I knew there was something that I couldn't put my finger on, and thanks to these photos I feel so much happier seeing how our beloved Angel used to look. Thank you.
Essex road pictures the the ABC Carlton and the Blue Hall was at Islington Green The Gaumont as I remember. That the the late 50's early 60's. Great viewing

Well done Denis. Thanks.
Great slide show. Brought some very happy memories, love the picture of the Champion, some great times were had there.
Old Street Station is in Clerkenwell rather than in Islington. The Lloyds Bank at 0:20 used to be a pub - can't remember its name.
My old School at 2.35 in the background, Islington Green, or as we called it - 'COLDITZ'. No longer there now.....
Thanks Denis, I spotted at lot of our old playground locations :)
