Join me in a bike ride back in time, I visit all eight white horses in Wiltshire. Please consider helping Sustrans double the national cycle network by adding another 5,000 miles. All of the low hanging fruit has been used so the more help will help massively. www.sustrans.org.uk
Sometimes it just doesn't work out

This was meant to be a 600 after work out to the fens of Cambridgeshire but a few things worked against me in the lead up which meant I started out tired and lacking sleep. I pulled up near Peterborough and rode back to Northampton to catch the train back home. #audax #cycling #britishcycling #bikeride #cyclinguk #cycleride #cyclinglife # #

Very nice👍
Looks like a good investment Richard 👍 Dont feel too guilty !! 😉
Great trip thanks for sharing 👍
Thanks for adding a map. Really helps to visualise it. I took a screenshot so I could look at it as you got to each horse
great idea
Don’t be too hard on yourself. I am very impressed with the ride you did. The cloud photo was brilliant. It would be good if you put the Strava image of your route up , so that viewers who don’t know the area very well can get a visual image. Same question about the hydration pack.
Ok I will do that next time
Well done for trying. How did you get on with the hydration vest? - what is it's capacity?
It’s 1.5 litres so doubles what I would normally carry once on I forgot about it so that’s good although I wish the fluid would come out faster
@@biking261 Thanks. I also think I should be drinking more as I feel pretty achy and struggle to sleep after a long ride. I suspect dehydration is a factor. I used Camelbak packs when mountain biking and the liquid flow from them was great. The bags I had were basically rucksacks and so a bit heavy for road riding. I might look at their lighter designs.
Nice sunrise! Rest well. Thanks for sharing.
Hi mate, what happened to the Condor Fratello you had? I came across your channel with the review you did on it and I notice you no longer ride it. Interested to hear as I was giving it some serious consideration on my next bike.
Hi Craig I’m just using my summer bike the Condor was in my last video you will be very happy with it
@@biking261 Oh good. I thought you had got rid of it. There is not a lot of reviews of it on RUclips so was glad when I found yours.
@@craigdavidson4902 nooo still have it and it’s not going anywhere
Enjoyed that. Thanks for filming. A couple of questions if I may. Early on you film yourself from the front but both hands are on the bars. How do you hold the camera? Are you still riding the Arkrose you did a video about once?
Hi John, I use a insta360 camera for those shots and it comes with an invisible selfie stick which due to the clever trickery in the software gets cut out from the final video giving that impression of it floating in front. I still have the Arkose its currently on my indoor trainer as it needs new brake calipers as the current ones are leaking. I must get it sorted as I miss riding it.
You look like a really happy person
I'm a good actor :-)
@@biking261 I hope you're good man
Nice 1 Richard. Thanks for sharing. 👍
Great video, enjoyed watching it and planning on doing it although I live on Norfolk/ Suffolk border. The subtitles that are produced were hilarious for the names of places. Oh that north wind is just as bad today 1st June. Thanks , will watch the rest of your trip
Amazing ride, I can’t believe how easy you make it look and enjoying going at your own pace, very inspiring 👍
New subscriber here, just found your channel 👍 so what bike were you on and how long did it take you?
Hello and welcome to the channel I used a Giant Defy for this ride and it took around 11 hours to complete
Nice day for it. That camera definately giving out good quality images 👍🏼
Iconic views, roads, and great weather. A great weekend out on the bike.
Packed in newtown before, an incredibly hard ride. Arrived at that youth hostel over time and plenty of folks still faffing. Got to load up on caffeine and get though the night at a decent pace.
What a beautiful country Wales is, and thanks for showing it off at it's best. Awesome achievement getting to Bangor, some serious climbing involved in that, no mean feat.
Absolutely gutted..!!! I’m quite new to audax and this was another one of those rides on my list to do. Because of my shifts I couldn’t go this year, but wasn’t too upset as I thought I could ride it next year. But alas that won’t happen now. Why has finished?
Hi Jez, I don't know the reason but I guess we all have had enough at some point, I think someone will pick it up.
@@biking261 he was training someone up at the event, forgot his name now. I can only assume to take over at some point; just me speculating. In order to become an event organiser you have to shadow someone for a quite a while to show you have the skills etc. to pull it off. It would indeed me a shame for this one to come to an end; but hey ho nothing lasts forever.
I agree with Andy - really like the 360 shots. It's a shame BC400 is ending - I was hoping to do it at some point: As you say, it might get picked up by some keen new folk. But also interested in what Mark might cook up next.
Great video Richard 👍 Love the 360 shots. Shame to hear about BC400 ending? Rode it as a DIY 500 a couple of times so there's always that option.
Thanks Andy, yes the 360 camera only turned up on Friday so only had time to charge and put a memory card in so hopefully the shots will improve. Yes Brevet Cymru ending is a shame but I am hoping someone will pick it up. I would also make it a 500 by riding it as a DIY from home so perhaps if the worse does happen then that's what I will do. I have my own version of the Bryan Chapman as well and did ride that as a DIY a few years back so I have form for doing such things.
I'm not sure it is ending, just a change of organiser for next year.
Been meaning to say, give cycle.travel a try: It's by far my favourite bicycle routing app, created by a cycle tourist as a passion, with a day job of cartographer. He showed street view long before komoot, and for byways can often show pictures from geograph - an open source OS square photo database.
I will take a look!, thanks :-)
Aye up Richard. Brilliant adventure. Thanks for sharing once again. 👍👍👍
Great series Richard, keep up the good work 🚴🚴🚴
Really enjoyed following your trip on this series of videos. Glad you had such a good time 👍
Thanks Andy
Chapeau! Enjoyed watching the series. Looks to be some great cycling routes and infrastructure experienced. Thanks for sharing.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Nice one Richard, just wish we had a better cycling network in this country. Keep up the good work. 🚴🚴🚴
Me too! it really opened my eyes as to what is possible,
Thank you for sharing. Keep them coming please! All the best.
What an adventure. Well done for the hard work and enjoy your journey 👏👏👏
Thanks so much!
Ha, ha. When you said about paying £4 to watch Andy’s video, I actually laughed out loud. Brilliant. Love your adventures Richard. Thanks again for sharing.
Great video. Chapeau on getting to Harwich after that epic ride. Look forward to the next instalment. 👍
Colchester is the Para’s Richard and is where the military prison is located, known as ‘Colly’. Thanks for sharing, looking forward to the next instalment 🚴👌
Thanks Steve, I couldn't remember at the time :-)
Nice one Richard, keep up the good work 🚴🚴🚴
Enjoyed this and am looking forward to the next one! Nice to see you rocking the Carradice saddlebag. Is that a Camper Longflap?
No it’s a low saddle long flap I do have a camper long flap as well which is about a third bigger
Enjoyed that 👍 Looking forward to next installment
Thanks Andy, there is a little tiny you in the next installment 😂
Nice little adventure coming up Enjoy 👍
Looks like it’s going to an epic adventure. Good luck.👍
Bon Route Richard 👍
Thanks Andy I was just watching your latest video via satellite 😂
Some lovely riding 👌
Thanks ✌️
I love riding on Wiltshire too. It you are looking for ideas. The Wiltshire cycleway goes through some lovely places and would probably make a nice 300km day out when the days are longer (and less bloody wet!).
well done sir
Absolutely the right call. You certainly have to pick your battles this time of the year and it can always be ridden again can't it, rather than risking the holiday? I rode Ed Blackthorns son 150 last year which was one of the best rides of the year for me. Love coming to do Marks audaxes in Tewkesbury👍
Absolutely!
top stuff.
Big day out 👌
i thinks its just an accumilation of getting wet and damp this year you can only take so much, and sensible I did the imfamous tour de stations i turned around and headed back before being stuck at the top of a mountain in a blizzard the guy I was riding with carried on had to have a paramedic sort him out
I did the 100km ride which shared the route until Bromyard. Some of the slow had cleared in the 90 minutes later start but it was still cold and the worst thing was having soaking feet due to riding through deep puddles. It was cold for an hour or so after Bromyard after which it got a bit more bearable. Had some food in the Hop Pole afterwards and saw the 200km finishers arriving. I think around 35 managed to complete it.
You made the right decision. It was carnage at the cafe in Bromyard. Some seriously cold riders and blankets were required. The section from where you stopped to Bromyard was tough. The water was running in the tyre tracks between the snow meaning soaking cold feet. It did improve but not until after Hopwell. Whilst the last leg was flat it was getting colder and colder. Glad to finish!
You made the right decision Richard. 4 degrees isn’t that warm, and when you get wet it very quickly takes your heat away. Don’t be too disappointed…spring is on its way.👍
Well done Richard! Your experience of Audax and tenacity shone through! See you at the Royal Hop on Saturday !
