More confused than ever. One question re: Eurail; do the trains that require reservations also go up depending on time of year or are they a set fee? And how expensive are they?

We bought the pass with EURAIL but used other train apps such as OBB and Rail Europe to make any of the reservations when if required after adding the trains on the EURAIL app. In the end had to use all 3 apps.

Wanting to travel around a few countries in europe with family, and was thinking would this be the better option? As dont want to drive and with 2 teenagers figured this was a good way for them to see europe & keeping them busy. Any routes that anyone could recommend thks.

You are good. Like you the reservation concept makes me think no. Back in 1984 traveled 21 days basically on the rail. I made mistakes off train and on anther train no fees. One time I made a mistake traveled light the older policeman no English it was cold I was locked in a train station. Reading an interesting article on BBC news about the issues. Many Europeans would be happy to travel by rail even though flights are cheaper because of sustainability. But from one country to the next can be problematic. So the different countries INSTEAD of getting the rails together are looking at ways to fine and tax the skies. Seems just like our American government! Instead of fixing anything they pursue dead ends. Why not employ a few think tanks to implement solutions rather than ignoring the rail issues and forcing higher costs to air travel? Because...more expensive flights will not fix the ground issue. People will still end up flying at higher costs and nothing is solved.

I use mine as a buffer for day not primary long distance travel. France and Italy can get difficult so maybe its not for you. I hop day to day around France no problem minus Paris. I fly long distance for time even if im spending $100 over my pass. Time is of the essence for me. Just dont expect it to do everything.

You should try going back, I was there with my family a week ago and they now have another 2 chili extract sauces to try. The Final Answer was the last one in this video at 1.5 Million Scoville units, then there's "Toxic Waste" at 6.4 Million Scoville units and finally "Grim Reaper" at 9 Million Scoville units which I had to hold the toothpick in my mouth for 15 seconds to earn the right to spin the "Wheel of disgust" and earn the right to buy an "I tasted everything" t shirt which I'm happy to wear with pride!

How would you recommend traveling if Paris is going to be my hub but I want to take day trips to different countries?

I am traveling to france in december I am planning to arrive to paris and take a train to strasbourg first, spend 2 nights there then take a train to reims and spend two night there as well then back to paris and stay another week before coming back to miami. the way I understand I shoul dbuy a 3 travel day eurail pass correct? 1 day from paris to strasbourg second day from strasbourg to reims and third day reims back to paris am I right?

I was offered a very delayed and even unavailable (too crowd, even the the doors could not be closed, impossible for me to get on), but Eurail refused to refund.

i think its too expensive...with the seat reservation crap.

According to some other source, if a ticket is booked for travel after 7pm and thr travel crosses midnight and the journey ends the next day, it is classified as a single day of travel.

useless if all you want is how to use the app for more than one person!

New travel goal: get to the coliseum in the afternoon without validating my transit ticket, bring a seafood pasta with cheese and ketchup to cut up and eat while taking the site in and washing it down with a fat cappuccino all while smiling at strangers and saying hello in my best Italian accent. 100% on the importance of flossing. Seriously, when you travel, particularly in developing countries, it is likely you're going to eat some very tough meat along the way that sticks between your teeth. A bad gum infection resulting from this can ruin your trip. Always carry dental floss, even if you aren't planning on using it regularly. I'll add that some medications that are legal in the US are totally illegal in some (all?) European countries (e.g. Adderall). Check before you go.

So how do you activate a pass ? What will the conductors ask for when they check ? is that all in the app ?

I bought a Eurail pass in May 2024, for my trip to Europe over July/August, and honestly I don't think it was worth it. Part of the reason I bought it was for the flexibility of booking closer to the time without the evr-increasing fares the closer you get BUT I'm finding that so many key train connections book out months in advance anyway, and the seat reservation fees are so high, that it would have been significantly cheaper to NOT buy the rail pass and just book point-to-point.

I'm hoping do a 12 month trip all across mainland europe mostly by foot , i have nothing but time an time well spent will be me & freedom an away from routine . I have a limited budget with a reserv to get me back home when then budget is close to gone . Im shitting it one sence & will learn more about myself in this year of out my confort zone than 33 living init . Safety isn't anywhere on Earth its an illusion , planet as had mass extinctions . See it with that logic and the worlds less scary to travel as never know when times up

Thanks for the info. The only thing that was very distracting was the actual visual focus of your video. You have too many things behind you (books and posters) that are always vying for the focus of your camera. This caused you to constantly be in and out of focus because you were moving around so much, which made it almost impossible to watch. Please consider removing all the things in the background that could cause your camera to focus on those things rather than you while you are presenting. Hope this helps and thanks again for the helpful info.
