The Sector: The T scale (Line of Tangents)
Просмотров 3 тыс.4 года назад
The Line of Tangents on the sector is used in chair making to determine the sight line and resultant angles from the rake and splay angles of chair legs. All that is needed is the sector, a pair of dividers, and a bevel gauge. No mathematical calculations are used. More information about the sector can be found below: redrosereproductions.com/sector/
the sector: The C scale "Line of chords".
Просмотров 7 тыс.4 года назад
The Line of Chords is used to set the sector to a predetermined angle up to 90 degrees. It can also be used to measure angles. More information about the sector can be found below: redrosereproductions.com/sector/
The Sector: The P scale "Line of Polygons".
Просмотров 1,9 тыс.4 года назад

The Sector: The L scale "Line of Lines" part 2
Просмотров 2,9 тыс.4 года назад
The L scale can also be used to calculate the radius, diameter, and circumference of a circle when any one is known. There is also the proportion for the Golden Ratio. More information about the sector can be found below: redrosereproductions.com/sector/
The Sector: The L scale "Line of Lines" part 1
Просмотров 3,6 тыс.4 года назад
Using the L scale on the sector called the "line of lines" to divide distances into equal parts and create ratios with a couple of common woodworking situations as examples. Using the sector in this manner requires no mathematical calculations so the chance of error is minimal. More information about the sector can be found below: redrosereproductions.com/sector/

Hi, thank your very much for this explanation. It seems that with this method you actualy measure 7/4 and not 4/7, right ?
If the height of the drawer front is 7 units, the knob placement is 4 units from the bottom of the front.
neato!
I love watching skilled people using moulding planes
I was unsure at first but I can see how that instrument takes all the mm easuring out on of certain woodworking processes and makes an it much more instiinctual .
Amazing
What kind of hinge is that?
It's custom designed and has adjustable tension.
Hey, I love the video. Can I use it for my upcoming compilation about woodworks and wood carving? I'll give you full and proper credits. Thanks
Yes, that is fine with credit.
Amazing! I had to try to read a book written in 1300 to try to get this info and I never figured it out! Thanks
Best explanation I’ve seen on the sector!! Thanks!!
Your Welsome!
The greek letter for the Golden Ratio is phi, not pi. Great demonstration of using the Sector!
Brilliant.
I think seeing this tool in action is helping to understand its use and value - great work.
Thanks for doing these!
You are welcome!
Sounds like Advanced Euclidien Geometry! And a lot of fun. I’ll look forward to your future videos!
Thanks Dan, looking forward to the future videos of use etc.👍
Better late than never! Iv'e been wanting to do this a long time.

Coming soon...

How does the tail vise sit in the grooves, are they just dados or are they dovetailed?
The grooves are straight dados and the jaw has tenons on each side.
Even if you are careful not to crank the moxon vise too tight, do you risk marring the work piece on the screw side?
The screws have a fairly large flat on the ends so the risk is reduced, but not entirely eliminated, especially with soft woods. The bench comes with extra jaw liner that can be added to the screws if marking is a concern.
Not in my experience. The screws are flat on the faces and also there is a piece of jaw liner included that can be applied to the screws if desired.
So awesome!
Christopher Thanks Christopher!
