I was going through a box in my closet and found an HDMI-to-s-video thingy I bought years ago for the Neo Geo X (that thing had HORRIBLE composite output, so a good fix was to convert the HDMI to analog). Before I banished it back to the closet, I played some Magical Drop.
Evercade - Double Dragon

I recently decided to try using save states to get through Double Dragon, and it's STILL hard. And the ending isn't worth the trouble, really. So I will stick with the usual, familiar failure from now on. Can I get to stage 4? Or will the Green Abobos bludgeon me until I fade from existence? Recorded from an Evercade handheld system, filtered through a Gam3Gear scanline generator.

Dushlan from Mega Cat is an attempt to spice up Tetris, the perfect game, a bit. It adds some new pieces, hazards, and requirements to advance. I like it, for the most part. The controls feel a little sluggish to me, but this is more thoughtful and less hectic than Tetris, so it isn't a big deal. Instead of discrete stages, I'd rather have an endless mode with the hazards and stuff randomly occ...
Evercade - Dreamworld Pogie

While aware of the existence of Dizzy, I had never played anything by the Oliver Twins before getting this cartridge. Dreamworld Pogie was the first thing I tried, and I ended up liking it a lot and playing through it several times. Plenty of deaths still, though. 75% stupidity and 25% jank controls. Recorded from the HDMI output of an Evercade console, and not a late 80s British microcomputer.
Game Boy - Qix

Qix is one of those games you can play for hours and not get a good run going. I've NEVER gotten a good run going. But here's some Qix anyway, because I love it so. Recorded from a Super Game Boy 2, nestled warmly inside a SupaRetron HD console, and filtered through a Gam3Gear scanline generator.

I got a Gam3Gear HDMI scanline generator to use with my Mega Retron HD, but how does it pair with Evercade HDMI output? It's not awful, but maybe someone who knows a lot more than I do will tell me why it's awful. Pac Man gameplay is for VIDEO DEMONSTRATION PURPOSES ONLY. Studying my approach will result in death if applied to your own game sessions.

It's a pretty good version of Puzzle Bobble! You have symbols instead of colors, but it works well enough. Gameplay captured from a Super Game Boy 2 sitting atop a Hyperkin Supa Retron HD.

I was, of course, taking into consideration the title screen and menu navigation at the start and end. The gameplay itself is an hour exactly, down to the nanosecond.

how do the games look on a crt from the evercade? is it worth it?
Nah. They look okay, but you can’t match the resolution or aspect ratio of the CRT. If you have access to a widescreen HD CRT it might be worth doing for normal play, but my experience with those was that they had terrible input lag.

Sadly I to have no idea when scan lines are good or bad. Interesting experiment all the same.
They seem to be lining up correctly with the pixels; I don't see anything blatantly incorrect. But I'm no expert.

If you get the upgraded bombs you can even stick them to enemies. There's a lot of neat stuff going on.

It really is. The sort of thing you only stumble across if you try everything in a collection.
I've never been great at them, but I love the Puzzle Bobble games. More than Bubble Bobble? Possibly. This looks like a really solid version of the game, I was impressed by how true to the source material it is!
Taito must have had a really good team making Game Boy games. All the ones I can think of were very well done.
