04 The Danish Way of Parenting {Chapter 5}
We finally talked about the Nanny Diaries & boy, was that fun! Then, we talked about Jenae's Live-in Nanny experiences and what boundaries we would have for that situation. That led straight into Nanny/Family Communication & Secrets. We finally got around to talking about Chapter 5: E is for Empathy & wrapped up with a chat on nannies that swear. This episode is definitely one of our more chatty ones, which makes it one of my favs.

    Thank you Soooo much for saying these things! 1. We all have meltdowns. We all have our moments.😉 2. We need to teach kids how to deal with those big feelings, not by sending them into their room, but by giving them the tools to work through those feelings (space, reflection, talking about it). 3. Parents ARE inconsistent in their discipline BECAUSE they are tired & busy (that’s why they need a nanny!). But we can help provide consistency for both the children & the parents! 😊 (The parents aren’t perfect, the kids aren’t perfect, & we aren’t perfect!)

    Currently looking to become a nanny, love kids but I have sensory issues specifically around noise that makes caring for kids difficult for me. Also have anxiety about being around people in general, not just kids. It's interesting because when I mentioned it to my mom she was surprised 😅 apparently everyone around me considers me very good with kids Hopefully I'll be able to learn quick and feel more prepared as I research more

    What if I’ve been doing work under the table without even knowing? I’ve been filing my 1040 for the past 2 years with the same family and didn’t think I needed a W2 or a 1099 😢 Is there any form like the 8919 for that situation or I’m screwed?

    Honestly, for me, babies are 10xs easier than preschoolers to take care of lol. When they cry you just check what they could possibly need like a diaper change, food or bottle, nap, or to play. Also, bathtime before bed is a good way to establish their bedtime routine and works for toddlers too.

    Hi! Just to clarify in my own brain lol I would NOT write the things I decide to expense (example I buy a laminator) into the invoice to the parent for reimbursement, right? Since I will input that expense towards my taxes at the end of the year, yes? I decided to not ask for reimbursement because I get paid enough to buy the supplies on my own AND I know I can expense it, that seems fair right?

    • @OhSoSimply
      @OhSoSimply Год назад

      Correct! I don't add those things as reimbursements because those are business expenses. I only add things to the invoice that will be left with the family (toys, food, wraps) that are for their children or their household. Good question! :)

  • @jeralynrose2917

    This was soooooo helpful!! I was put in a situation where I had to file taxes as a self employed AND I didn’t even receive a 1099. I even tried to ask if I could be payed as an employee and they kept disregarding it bc they didn’t know how being a household employer. I love my little guy, the family is cool. Mom is pretty demanding and treats me like an employee strongly and still wanted to have all the benefits of having me as a self employed. But now that I’ve brought this to her attention she seems like she is scattering around to do the right thing. Kinda sucks bc it’s a little uncomfortable and we are very close all day for the most part but this is owed to me and I’m going to stand up for myself. It’s been a year and a half now. This is so relieving. I get paid $30/hr. Last year my taxes were $7k. But I’m going to redo those taxes the correct way hopefully. Luckily the family are the type to do things by the book so everything should go well. They also own a large company so they know how to get around with these things. But omg what a relief!! I had so much resentment bc of this but I’m hopeful everything will turn out the way it’s suppose to. Bc I am so close though, I know a lot about the mom and I’m around her during confidential phone calls so im hoping she doesn’t have me sign any contracts to keep me quiet. I don’t want to sign over my voice bc you never know. Are there any laws or rules around this?

    • @OhSoSimply
      @OhSoSimply Год назад

      That definitely counts toward knowing how to take care of children, however, I usually don't count it as nanny experience because nannying comes with it's own set of rules as you treat those children differently than you would your own because you aren't usually able to make all of the decisions on child-rearing philosophies.

      That’s a great question. If you’re filing as a w-2 employee, generally you can still deduct the cost of your work clothes, work supplies, and track your mileage for your commute. Make sure you check with your local tax professional and sign up for a mentoring session so we can talk about your specific situation.

    Super helpful! If a nanny agreed, verbally and via contract, to work as a 1099 employee but then asserts they wanted a W-2 after the 1099 and W-2 deadline is past in spite of us paying her in cash every week and documented it, does she have any claim to be treated as a W-2 employee after the fact?

    • @OhSoSimply
      @OhSoSimply 2 года назад

      That’s a great question! Whether your nanny agreed to be paid as a 1099 or W-2 nanny alone doesn’t really decide what you should do. The government determines how you should pay those taxes based on what your working relationship looks like. That being said, there are ways to retroactively file your taxes either way (1099 & W-2). I’d love to get more details about your specific situation and help you in a mentor session, which you can schedule at ohsosimply.com/shop 💛
