Lou Reed is said to have invented this tuning and it was used on several Velvet Underground Songs. In this video I explore this 'trivial' tuning and talk about how it appears in their song 'All Tomorrow's Parties'... note... the 2nd string goes out of tune during the video but you get the idea.... Sorry.. don't know why the sound is so low..

The Cruel Sea - Black Stick Tutorial.. for educational purposes all rights belong to The Cruel Sea Note: I have recorded this in open G tuning but I am 98% sure that they play I open A tuning (a step up) but to do this you need to swap out some strings to avoid breaking them. I think this is why the intonation is a bit different.

No probs...Thanks for your feedback. I was asked to accompany someone for this song in a live performance so I ended up going down the rabbit hole and looking into the tuning and playing around... really, Lou Reed didn't play much in terms of melody .. in the original song he just uses the ostrich tuning to create a drone and then plays almost random licks on the top string but I wanted to explore if you could play the melody using this tuning so I came up with these fingering and positions that kind of work but because of the intonation issues associated with this tuning it always sounds a bit off (dischordant).. so.. you know.. all art is subjective and The Velvet Underground were more about the art than 'the music' and this was all avante garde so drop some LSD and try not to freak out..lol

No worries... you don't actually have to take the ends off the rack to change the feet.. you can do it with them on the rack but I took them off because it found it easier than trying to hold the rack and do it. I'm glad it helped.

The chords are Am, F and G (played with capo on 2nd fret and the top string spiked at 2nd fret). The riff is fairly easy to work out..
