Liebeslieder, Op. 52 (Johannes Brahms)
Brahms' Liebeslieder, Op. 52 are a collection of love songs in the Ländler style written for four voices and four hands. The text of the Liebeslider were taken from Georg Friedrich Daumer's 'Polydora', a collection of folk songs and love poems.
Immediately popular, these waltzes were responsible for much of Brahms' wealth as they could accommodate ensembles of various sizes.
The form of each waltz is almost always binary or rounded binary with one exception in rondo form ("Ein kleiner, hübscher Vogel"). Hemiolas and syncopation abound, these waltzes are full of Brahms' typical rhythmic gestures and quirks.
