A wonderfull talk! I like this kind of thinking that does not shy away from moving inside places but also dares to move back out, to touch upon matter without getting lost in pure materiality: to also notice immaterial realities encoded in its material forms like indices of time, space and sociality. It made me think about a movie called 'The Terminal', where a man (played by Tom Hanks) is stuck and thus forced to live in a terminal and therefore out of tune with the chronotope of disagregation. I think this creates an oddness that we reconcile with laughter (humor). Is there any analysis of humor as a function of chronotopic transgression and how that is used in narrative fiction (or non-fiction) today?

Make more videos, please. We need them now, more than ever.

Building on your point of form preceeding content- the heart of darkness is a difficult read, it has an unusual word choice, long meandering sentences, and the piling up of adjectives like you mentioned. Also conrad will often talk about things not obviously relevant to the story. The same way Marlow had to navigate the river and hack thru the obscure jungle, we as readers are navigating thru Conrad's obscure sentences. Perhaps even becoming "obsessed" to reaching the end of the story.

That was wonderful, thank you. I've just read this book and now I want to read it again. I wish you had spent some extra time on the imagery of the narrator's world and the dynamics of his home village and his life as a civil servant. ❤❤❤ Oh, and now I need to see Othello too😂

So, while "Arrow of God" can be viewed through an existential lens in some respects, it might be more accurate to consider these elements as part of its rich thematic structure rather than classifying the entire novel strictly as existentialist.

I enjoyed the lecture, but somewhat grating is the assertion near the outset that "The Tempest" was the last of Shakespeare's plays. It may have been the last of Shakespeare's sole-authored plays, but Shakespeare wrote at least a substantial portion (perhaps the whole, but at least a substantial portion) of "Henry VIII" after "The Tempest." Shakespeare probably also wrote a substantial portion of "The Two Noble Kinsmen" as the final drama in which he had a hand. "The Tempest" does tend to come across as Shakespeare's farewell to playwriting, but he was not quite finished with that activity when he wrote it.

I have to admit, dearest professor, that I got hooked on to your lecture from the very beginning. I am certain it is one of the finest in RUclips.
