Oliver built me his very last TLM 49 to M49 modification, which he insured would stand up to any vintage M49 I could throw at it. he passed literally a few months after he shipped this to me. Such a tragic loss.

Is an 11-string available ?

So both models sound really good, and I have played acoustic concerts on both models, and they both sounded really beautiful, even the laminated back/sides Bartolex model with a cutaway. I would take that guitar along wth an amp to a gig, and if the room did not require an amp, then I would just play acoustically on the Bartolex, and in a big room the sound really opens up and blooms and projects, and just sounds fantastic. However, when you A/B the models side by side, the all-soid Milagro model has a richer tone, with perhaps more bass, or at least more weight in the bass, and louder and more solid and prominent fundamental notes. The Bartolex is slightly thinner sounding. However, as I said, when you have either one in a concert situation, they both are professional quality, and I never gigged with the Bartolex acoustically and wished that I had brought the Milagro along instead -- but when you A/B them side by side, the Milagro almost always wins.

So the tuning system I use is called the Baroque / Romantic tuning, and is simply the standard guitar tuning for strings 1-6 (with 3=G), and then the 4x stepwise descending basses on strings 7-10, with 7=D, 8=C, 9=B, 10=A

There are several different tunings for lute music. #1) is like the guitar except 3=F#, and the basses descend stepwise, 7=D, 8=C, 9=B, 10=A. Tuning #2) Baroque lute tuning is an Dm open chord with stepwise descending basses, F, D, A, F, D, A, G, F, E, D. Tuning # 3) Theorbo tuning has re-entrant trebles, tuned an octave lower on the first 2x strings. On Guitar string 1= high E, but is string 2 on the Theorbo, and is tuned an octave lover, and then string 1 is the A above that. All 3x lute tunings are wonderful sounding tuning systems on the 10-string guitar, even though you are still lacking some of the lowest strings found on a Theorbo or Baroque lute.

I play a chapel guitar is only 6 strings.

hi!why do ypu prefer akg 224 and 222 for your recordings?which of those 2 do you think that is more suitable for vocals also?i already have some nice mics:se rn17,gefell m692-m70 and some very good LDC mics...do you find that these akg mics cam offer me something...more-better in terms of sound?thanks

Every lute tuning I've seen tunes the bass strings in steps and possibly a third. I don't think you could have 4 or 5 strings tuned down in 4ths.
