    Hey Everybody, this is a decent 101 video for Naked and Famous jeans but for anybody out there with other brands - please do more research. I appreciate the video as it helps get the word out on the beauty of selvedge but for anybody watching - be careful as i don't think everything he says applies to all selvedge jeans and some are a lot pricier than $150

    Hi everyone. i would ask something about 511 selvedeg jeans. i wear W31 L30 a litlle narrow but it becomes comfortable a few months. Which Size 511 selvedge do you offer me ? i like slim fit

    As someone who's broken in a couple of raw denim jeans I don't think that the whole "sizing down" topic is quite right because it really depends on how tight the jeans will fit at the start (or not). If the jeans are really tight fitting at the start of course they'll gonna stretch a lot, because your body will give them a lot of stretch-pressure. If you would buy a size higher, the jeans would be looser at the beginning and be wider so your body can't give the jeans that much pressure, because they're wider from the start and because of that, they won't stretch that much at all. The biggest problem with this topic is, that a lot of people who size down to much are giving their jeans a really hard time because their body is stressing the fabric a lot and the jeans won't last as long as they could (rips, crotch blowouts e.g.). Repairs of raw denim jeans are nothing special and I would say that they make the jeans even cooler, but buying the jeans in the right size (and style - fitting wise) will make them last much longer. That's why the hardest part is IMO to find a brand that fits one very good without sizing down to much or buying the jeans to tight from the start. Snugg fitting from the start is ok, but it still should feel comfortable and you shouldn't have marks on your body after wearing the jeans e.g..

    would wearing a pair for say a week or 2 straight give the impression of 6 months wear and stretch??

    • @Luckingsworth
      @Luckingsworth 6 лет назад

      MtnDew Drew No. Most raw Jean aficionados will wear the jeans for a year, wearing them every day. Or every other. Mostly because that's all you can afford lol. I would say 3 months daily heavy wear minimum.

    • @bigmoneyb0ss
      @bigmoneyb0ss 9 лет назад

      Riel Reyes The Greats Brand high runs true to size. Some other silhouettes run a bit different, but shoot for your size on any of the Royale shoes. The leather is very giving and incredibly soft, and try to avoid dark denim as the dye will rub off onto this very vulnerable leather.

    when you altered your jeans you lose the selvedge? lol its because you tailor is not skilled enough to do it in a correct way. One more thing your statement "buy your selvedge denim a size down" is wrong. Depending on the type of the denim you should instead buy a size up or tts (exp: unsanforized jeans like Samura and pbj)

    For tapering in order to keep the selvedge you have to ask the tailor to taper from the inside seem instead of the normal tapering from the outside seem. :) Some tailors will refuse it but its better that what

    great video dope, convinced me to cop the greats! how did u find the sizing compared to other brands ? eg compared to nike, supra, puma or english/italian shoes.. im a 11USA eg nike and 10.5-11 Supra but 10UK in Grenson, Mark McNairy but Greats say to size down half eg 10.5USA instead of 11USA ? thanks man great great video :)!

      CROOKEDARROWCLOTHING thx man! i copped the US11 even tho i was tempted to go 10.5US - have to send these to a mail forward address then to australia but couldnt be bothered with the return risk and i have wide feet... what im most interested now in is how the leather ages over time ? my fave holy grail kix are some of the japanese www.henderscheme.com which seem to be originator of natural leather kix. www.google.com.au/search?q=hender+scheme+natural+leather&num=100&safe=off&rlz=1CAASUA_enAU605AU605&espv=2&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ei=bo_yVPSdF6K2mwXClILoDw&ved=0CAcQ_AUoAQ&biw=1825&bih=889 thx for your video is best out there on the model! not sure why Greats aren't doing videos of their latest lines..

      Ben Barren yeah man no problem! I can't wait to see how the greats wear and age over time I think it'll be really great. And I'm a fan of scheme, all their products look amazing definitely would like to own a pair one day. I would like to get some more buscemi's as well!

    • @BenBarren
      @BenBarren 9 лет назад

      Cousins & Johnson yeh those buscemi's look fiya. is your brand the all red chukkas ? they look amazing !!! a bit like the kanye vuittons but in a classic chukka kick with a slightly sharper line.. prob with all these Common Project riffs i find (incl greats) is they go for too many white soles.. then they get straight up dirty :) find same prob with English wingtips using Vibram white sole like Grenson.. super comfy but super dirty.. anyway those all red chukkas are fresh would love to cop when they drop. love the #crookedarrow brand Cousins & Johnson one more question if i may.. what colour laces u find work on the greats natural ? i've ordered some caramel waxed (english boot thinner lace) and a aqua blue/yellow more hightop lace then gonna see which one works more.. think they could have gone more interesting than white as standard :)

    Selvedge makes reference to the "self edge" at the ends of the fabric, which is the result of the weft being fed back and forth on an old style shuttle loom. The process create an edge that is finished and doesn't need to be sticked over. The qualities of denim you've described in this video are those of raw or dry denim, which fades over time according to your body. The terms selvedge and raw tends to get mixed and used interchangeably. In practice jeans can be selvedge and not raw and vice versa. Dry denim does not need to be selvedge to attain the same or even higher level of fades.

      @david78212 7 лет назад

      Sunrise Long exactly what I was looking at... the qualities he's looking for belong to "RAW" denim. When he had them tailored he lost the "SELVEDGE" which was probably what he paid for when he bought those jeans. Save your money and look for RAW denim and skip the SELVEDGE jeans if all your going to do is cut it off. I pay $9 a yard for SELVEDGE denim material when I buy my fabric to make jeans and it is only 30 inches wide... NOT cheap. I can buy regular denim for about $4 a yard and it's 48 in wide. You are paying for that red stripe and then you cut it off... find a new tailor and have them taper your jeans from the inner seam, harder to do, but you'll keep the selvedge edge... what you're paying for in the first place.

    • @wilsjane
      @wilsjane 7 лет назад

      At last, someone who understands what selvedge really means. The only reason that it stopped being used in the 70s was because wider looms were used to cut down on waste and so it was not possible to cut every pair if jeans along the edge of the fabric, so the selvedge was wasted. One of the early problems that resulted was that alternate rows of cutouts were in opposite directions, allowing the legs to run into the gaps on the previous row. This was fine, as long as the rows were marked A/B and kept separate. However they sometimes got mixed up and the resultant jeans twisted all over the place when they were washed, due to the front and back being from fabric cut in the opposite direction. Today, companies have started cutting jeans to the edge of the wide loom fabric and can therefore sell about 30% of them at a premium price. It is all a bit of a con really.

    Good video, I agree with you on the reason to buy selvedge denim. The best wear marks come from making them naturally through your own use. I don't bother with the hand washing, or woolite (and I tend to buy Edwin or Evisu). I throw mine in the washer and dryer with the rest of my laundry. I think the added breakdown process adds to the character of the denim and makes them even more comfortable.
