    • @Driver2685Gaming

      The longest run for me was from Elkhart, IN to Las Vegas, NV pulling a travel trailer. 1, 857 miles is what google shows, but I may have driven a little more south to either avoid the winter weather or to avoid the wind.

    Interesting - when hauling oversize loads, it has to be done in the daylight. In some ways that seems counterintuitive. It seems like it'd be easier to do oversize loads at night, when there is less traffic on the road. Obviously the downside is that it's hard to see, but it would seem very beneficial to have a significant reduction in traffic. Unless it's just that much easier to run into obstructions in the dark, and that risk is worse than traveling with lots more traffic? What's the real reason behind the laws being that way? 🙂

  • @AK-FS

      I tried to keep that at a minimum, not just for videos but because I hate not being able to see where I'm going. I've never been a big fan of trees along the road for that reason, but also know that trees and such add to the real feel of the map.

    That's an interesting looking cotton picker. You're using some interesting mods on here! You commented on the size of the equipment. When I played a 16x, I chose to try to do it using 'regular' sized equipment, but the time commitment when doing so is definitely huge. To keep things simple, I usually only had one guy working in the field, so it especially took a long time. This is where courseplay was worth its weight in gold, particularly during harvest. Just like a hired crew, the game would all but harvest the field all by itself. Maybe at some point someone would ask, then what's the point of doing it, if the player doesn't need to be involved? I thoroughly enjoyed it anyway. I've sometimes called it the best screensaver in the world. I'd have the game quietly running in the background - I could do other things, and the game was right there. I could easily see what was going on and monitor things. Maybe it gave me the feeling of being a true farm owner/businessman, with hired help doing everything. But the time... yeah, it was as huge as the map!

    • @Driver2685Gaming
      @Driver2685Gaming 5 дней назад

      Yeah, I enjoy my crazy size equipment, but it was to help with time management. And courseplay helped a lot on this and other large maps. I would usually setup workers running courseplay in the fields and I would just truck products around, tend to animals or work on productions in the mean time. I did that so it didn't feel like a farm management game all the time, if that makes sense.

    Fascinating comments on self-driving trucks and electric vehicles - thanks! I'm not real wild about the idea either. I've wondered just how difficult it would be to 'hack' one of these trucks, and you made it sound very easy. That's quite spooky. Aside from that all this sounds very expensive. Especially the electric/battery part. I'm not even sure it's something that is good for the environment at the end of the day. Maybe emissions get cut down a bit, but what about dealing with that nasty battery? 😛

    • @Driver2685Gaming

Most of them doesn't affect my channel, but I have had to delete some of them to reduce the risk of losing my channel. I enjoy singing so I may do that some in the future. I once saw a video of someone who flew a plane for his first time... without having had any previous training. He learned everything he knew on computer flight simulators and eventually went to try it for real in a Cessna plane or something like that. Of course, an instructor went up with him, to make sure he didn't kill himself, but the guy actually did a great job. The video showed him taking off, flying the plane, and then landing it. Wasn't perfect, of course, but it was obvious that the training he received in the flight simulators was helpful. I was curious of the same would be true of ATS or ETS. How close to reality is it? You talked a bit about the life of a trucker, and the fact that it requires being gone a long time from family, unless you have a local trucking job, and that it could pay better. What is your reading of the tea leaves on the trucking industry as a whole? As we know, Elon Musk is developing cars that drive themselves. I've been hearing that eventually this will get to the trucking industry. Do you see that day coming, or is that never going to be realistic? I can't imagine the amount of programming it would take to get a truck to function on its own 'in the wild.' I mean, with a trailer, or multiple trailers, and all the 'watching' that goes along with that. A human driver does that by instinct, but to get a computer to do it... that seems a huge leap. I'd be curious to know your thoughts... if you want a subject for your next video when you have time. 🙂

    You asked what kinds of mods we run. I tend to like the script mods, and care less about a particular shade of paint. I do try to have my machines realistically sized, though, so it's normal headers for combines, normal speeds, etc. One that I really like when working on a 16x map, though is one that reduces the distance camera clip. This enables one to see clear across the map, so the mountains on the other side don't seem to fade in or out . If I'm not mistaken, I think the standard game cuts off the distance clip distance at 5,000 meters; anything beyond that won't render. It usually works okay on a 4x map, most of the time, but one starts having trouble on the 16x maps. Having the mod probably costs a little more FPS to render things at a further distance, but I prefer that to seeing the distant mountains fade in/out.

    • @Driver2685Gaming
      @Driver2685Gaming 22 дня назад

      We all have our favorite mods, and for me I enjoy the crazy stuff but will do realistic as well. Kinda depends on what I'm playing. I never messed with mods that extended distance because my computer struggled at times. That and playing bigger maps just adds to the frame drops.

  • @AK-FS

    Whoa! You owned/farmed ALL fields on a 16x map? That's amazing. And I thought I was crazy for playing 16x maps as a single player. 😉 I spent a lot of time on the Cornbelt map in FS '17. You talked about the pilot car certification, and that there's a class and cost associated with this. What about the CDL? What does a person need to go through, and how much does it cost, to get one of those? I've heard it's very expensive - is that true?

    • @Driver2685Gaming
      @Driver2685Gaming 23 дня назад

      CDL here in the USA is similar to getting your regular drivers license. You have to study and then take the written test. I believe there is a fee when you take the test, but not sure. Then after you have practiced, you take your road test. For the road test you need a truck that you can use. Some places you can rent a truck for such purpose. This the cheapest if you don't have direct access to one. There are also truck driving schools, they range up to 10,000 dollars here. Now you can get it for almost free, but you have to do it through one of that large trucking companies that offer it. After you get your license you ride with a trainer for up to 2 months. Doing it this way usually puts you in a lower pay scale, so the company can reclaim the money they spent on getting you your license. Most times you have to sign a contract for up to 2 years. If you leave sooner you may have to pay some or all of the costs to get your license. There is more than that, so I'll make notes and talk about that in my next ATS video.

    I'm not a truck driver, so can't comment on the MOT (Ministry of Transport) requirements specific to trucks in NZ, but I can say that NZ doesn't have separate States, so exactly the same laws and regulations apply to the whole country. Plus in NZ every vehicle on the road (including trailers) must have a current WOF (Warrant of Fitness), to ensure that all vehicles are up to road worthiness standards. So you wouldn't get away with having light bulbs out here. These WOF's are either 6-monthly or annually, depending on the age of the vehicle.

      In the US, Hot-Shot is done in either pickup trucks or cargo vans. They both run freight across the us and run under the same DOT rules as large semi trucks. The cargo vans simply haul packages that are needed in a timely manner at a higher rate. The pickups usually do one of 2 things. They either pull their own flatbed and haul freight similarly as semi truck or they pull customer trailers hauling their goods. What I did and there are several thousand drivers doing this is hauling new campers from point A to point B. My next ATS video I will try to explain this more or maybe make a separate video of this.

    I do prefer daylight runs, so I can enjoy the scenery more, but I'm not complaining, as I'm just thankful to have another video from you. Feel free to just chat about any old thing.... I love to just hear what's on other people's minds. I often just go on about nothing much on my videos.

      I also prefer the day runs in game. Like you said, enjoy the scenery.

    😂Volume could actually go up a bit more if you wanted. I can hardly hear the truck.

    I use an addon called litemount. It will choose the best mount for the zone, including ground mounts for bgs, swimming for water, etc.

      I've heard of that addon, but actually forgot about it. I'll write it down and give it a try. Thanks for letting me know.

    Quit back in Mop after spending previous expansion leveling characters. I have tons of items I have no idea what to do with anymore.

      I have the same issue on several characters I play. I will at times start looking them up on wowhead.com to see if they are needed for things and such, but after a hour or so I give up and then do it again a few months later. I haven't played much the past 2 or 3 expansions, but I'm trying to get caught up.
