There ya go throwing science around again.... conditioning, chunking, lots of reps and spontaneous recovery. It's almost like you want the dogs to perform on cue with heart and soul ;) Nice discussion! Keep em coming.
Love this! Thank you Chris & Dan!!
That dog Daisy that Clark is referencing was trained and HRCH titled by a fella named Chad Guess at Old School Retrievers in Hornbeck, LA. I watched her work as a young dog and through getting her finished title with Chad. She’s special no doubt!
36:30 Clark what are you thinking sir? The answer for any dog man is "Be able to communicate clearly with dogs..."! "Ok Spike, when you pick something up I need you to hold on to it until I take it from you, never drop it ok? When I blow this whistle one time, I need you to stop and turn around and sit and face right at me, ok? When I put this hand up, you turn this direction and this direction only and go straight back, got it?" MISSED OPPORTUNITY CLARK! :D
51:00 Emotional stuff, even for hardcore, skilled people at the highest level like Lyle. “It was the nature of his profession that his experience with death should be greater than for most and he said that while it was true that time heals bereavement it does so only at the cost of the slow extinction of those loved ones from the heart's memory which is the sole place of their abode then or now. Faces fade, voices dim. Seize them back, whispered the sepulturero [gravedigger]. Speak with them. Call their names. Do this and do not let sorrow die for it is the sweetening of every gift.” ― Cormac McCarthy, The Crossing
Man I am loving these episodes!
Glad your loving them!
I would love to take a hands on class from Lyle and Clark
Hi I live and work my dogs in the UK and a lot of your terminology is different to what we are used too. Any chance you can maybe do a short podcast explaining the competitions and tests you do, terms like poisoned birds etc. like an idiots guide to the retriever scene in the USA. Thank you for doing a great podcast the guys you have on really know their stuff👍 Regards Keith
Thats a great idea. We will have to plan an episode like that. FYI, a poison bird is referred to a mark that is thrown but rather then picking that mark up right away you run a blind to another bird. In competition that mark is "poison" until the dog has already picked up the blind. Sometimes you pick those marks up and sometimes the bird thrower picks it up after the test is completed. It is a testing practice to see how much control you have over your dog as they run blinds. We use the practice in training to help the dog develop memory as they have to perform a task before they go get the mark and have to remember where it is.
Awesome
Thanks! What was your favorite part?
@@HuntTestHobo Great hearing about teaching vs testing in training. Also, the talk about mental stability in ep1 was invaluable.👊
Chris you had me subscribed at George Taylor
I raise and train European Dobermann dogs for “bite sports” (IGP and PSA) Although I like all working dogs, I’ve never owned or trained a gun dog/bird dog but I found this to be very interesting and good information ! Thanks!
Glad the info was helpful!
Great discussion! Maybe people will be interested in some of these training theories now that a pro has talked about it. They have no idea how much that base understanding is worth.
Thanks! We plan to keep diving in!
God's blessings to both of you! Thank you!
Thanks!
LIKE IT !!!!!! MONEY MAKES YOU THE BEST ,LYLE SAID IT . HE CAN BUY A BETTER DOG THAN HE CAN TRAIN !!!!!!
