Jenny Jones did overdo the fawning over Michael Crawford in this interview on her TV show and her question asking him what he wore to bed was totally inappropriate. Crawford should have responded to that question by saying, "I'll just answer that by giving the standard, boring, all-too frequent government response to reporters' questions - that's classified"!😂😂

The reason that the producers' choice of the half-mask for the Phantom in the ALW musical was a superb choice over the full mask that covers both cheekbones of the actor portraying the Phantom is was because whereas the full mask emphasizes the "monster behind the mask", the violent, evil side of Erik's personality (as in the great Lon Chaney Sr. portrayal of the Phantom in the 1922 Universal silent film), the half-mask places emphasis on the duality of the Phantom's nature - not just his evil side in which he kills people who have spurned him because of his facial disfigurement, but also his softer, gentler, compassionate, human side in which he strongly desires to be loved by a woman!

I11:35 the fact that he says this so many years ago and it still being relevant today is crazy, but also wonderful that he says that men do want romance and that it's not unmanly to cry or love. He's just wonderful and really was perfect for the Phantom. ❤

Gary was my first Raoul when I saw it as a kid on Broadway in '98, then he was my "Pheonix Phantom" when I rediscovered the musical as a teenager on US tour in 2006. He's my favorite of all of them. I hope he's doing well.

He is so smart in a suit and cute and a good singer too.

If you listen closely, you'll hear, unlike all previous performances when he says to her "I love you," in this last one ever he changed it to say "I LOVED you!" knowing he'd never say it again to another Christine, and his way of saying Goodbye to Erik himself. I can never get thru this without weeping since my one and only time to see him right after they opened on Broadway, makes it even more tough to watch this. 😭😭😭 A'course, we ALL how special Erik was to Michael, but THIS final "Final Lair" is SO heart- wrenchingly to get thru and I've never made it dry on the other side. I know the successive Phantoms have all done their best to being something to the roll, but IMO, NONE of them has yet to match the soulful, gut- wrenching emotion like Michael and is only one reason why he's the ONLY Erik for me. 😭😭😭 I wish I could tell him my connection to it all. 😞😞😢 Team Michael for all time! Eternally yours Michael Crawford, YOUR REAL Christine 😍🔥💘💘💋💋💋

One and only Phantom

First, thanks to whomever for posting this interview I'd never seen until a few days ago, but a couple observations. The comments here were ALL spot on! Yes Jenny did make him uncomfortable, BUT at the 5:17 mark, he IS cutting his eyes at her, and I have a dreadful feeling they hooked-up later on that day/evening. Next, he was SO gracious despite all of Jenny's taunting, but Oh BOY, did he look SO deliciously HANDSOME, and drop-dead gorgeous with all those curly, thick red locks. Seemed he'd soaked up some American sun too, with that tanned un-British pale flesh, although he still looks great that way too. I was born too late (1970!) .... *SOB!*

No one ad special as he is!!!

the more I watch this video the more jenny Jones was just trying to hit on Michael n she should absolutely be ashamed of herself of saying he was gonna be at her place, asking him if he was in a relationship, this n that. I hope when he left the interview that he laughed at her stupidity n. ignorance. She needed to apologize but guess she is just to plain dumb......

The manner in which Michael Crawford describes his Phantom is the reason that no other performer has ever even come close to his magnificent portrayal of this tortured, seductive, and yes, sensitive, Phantom of the Opera. I never tire of listening to Mr. Crawford sing his "Music of the Night".

Wow, this is amazing. Crawford is THE Phantom, to me. And Christine is very good here as well. Not least vocally. And that is one thing that makes me a little sad to think about. There are many fantastic Phantoms and Christines out there, just search RUclips for a minute and you'll find lots of modern ones. I love Ramin, Hugh and Gary Mauer for instance. But the trend in musical theatre seems for a long time to have been shifting more towards the acting and effects and away from the singing. MC's singing here is stunning, and bear in mind its the ending of a live performance of a long show and in a very hard role to sing. With, what, six or seven shows a week? He acts the part every second, never loses his expression, nor does he ever lose legato or control. There is loads of expression all in his singing, no word comes out that is just uttered as a line or a random note. THAT to me is amazing musical theatre acting. He's for instance the only one I've heard that manages to hold the whole last "the music of the night" line in one breath, in live performance. And apart from that, he's the only one I've heard who does the final "you alone..." the way I feel it, more of a final, desolate statement of loneliness, hopelessness and sense of loss, rather than belting it out to the lovers across the lake.

Started adapting this for my own version of it. Some amazing work here. Loved looking at it in more detail while designing my own version.
