VW Tiguan Rear Brakes
My MQB Tiguan developed a weird groaning noise from the back. Particularly when applying the rear brakes. Taking it apart revealed that the inner pad wore out faster than the outer on the passenger's side rear. This caused metal on metal contact between the pad and rotor which caused the noise and chewed up the inside of the rotor. So, it was time to change my rear brakes.
This isn't a difficult process. There are some small, annoying peculiarities to manage. You know, Volkswagen things. However, it is easy enough to manage if you know what you are up against. Which is why I filmed this video. So other MQB Tiguan owners would know what they are up against lol.

1LE Autocross Day
Просмотров 2528 дней назад
Another month, another autocross in the 1LE. Ok, it was totally last month and I just got to putting up a video about it now. I finally had tires, alignment, and new front brakes, so it only made sense to go out and put them to work. I was definitely a little rusty, but it was worth it to get out there and practice again. For the next one, I am hoping to have new brake fluid done and I plan to ...
How to: Mount Tweeters in a Tacoma
Просмотров 78Месяц назад
Mounting tweeters in a first gen Tacoma is actually pretty easy. In particular because they have these removable plastic panels in the triangular space above the door panel, right near the windshield. Back in the Custom Tacos days, we called them "Sail panels" because they look like the sail on a sailboat. These panels attach via a lower hook style clip and an upper head that pops into the door...

Camaro 1LE Rotor Ring Replacement
Просмотров 572 месяца назад
The two piece front rotors on the SS 1LE Camaro present the opportunity for changing just the rings once they are worn. There are different options on the market from companies such as DBA. However, there is another possibility which is using the rings of a 5th gen ZL1. Of course, these can only be sourced with hats but they are a substantial amount cheaper than SS 1LE rotors. So, you can save ...
Camaro Brake Rotor Replacement

The brake rotors on my SS 1LE were well past their sell by date, so to speak. I was in need of some new ones, so I went ahead and put an order in on Rock Auto and proceeded to wait for the new rotors and pads to arrive. Once I got them in, I went to work replacing them and am quite happy I did. The work itself does require some grunt, but is pretty straightforward. There are specific torques th...
Camaro Oil Change with the Stahlbus Oil Drain
Просмотров 1483 месяца назад
A while back, I made a video of how to install a Stahlbus oil drain on a Camaro. It made oil changes way easier for me to do. However, I did not get around to making a video for the oil changes themselves. So, this time around I planned ahead and made sure I could record so you guys could see how easy it is to do. With the Stahlbus drain, there is no need to unscrew a bolt to drain the oil. You...
Tiguan Turbo Inlet and Turbo Muffler Delete
Просмотров 4433 месяца назад
As promised, I am starting to do some mods on my MQB Tiguan. I got my hands on the CTS turbo inlet and the CTS Turbo Muffler delete via ECS tuning. All you really need to get them in is a T30 torx bit on a socket wrench and a 7mm for the same wrench. That and a lot of patience. The turbo inlet is easy. You remove the intake box via a couple hose clamps (one is the squeeze type and the other is ...
DIY Modern Shed Update

As promised, here is an update on my shed. It is now in a much better state than before. Though not complete, I do have the double barn doors installed and that means that stuff can go in. Thanks to my friends Gabe, Bryan, and Diego, I was able to clean a bunch of stuff out of the garage. We got useful things over to the shed and the rest went into the trash. There are still details to complete...

Hey everyone, it's been a while! I have not been posting in the last couple of months for a few reasons, but mainly because all other projects have been put aside in order to focus on one big one: the construction of my new shed. This shed is meant to house my lawn mowers along with all of the excess equipment and things that are taking up space in my garage. The ultimate goal being to allow my...
April Autocross

Another month, another autocross. This time, I had brand new front and rear tires as well as a proper alignment. The difference in the feel of the car was eye opening. I definitely need new rotors and pads as I could feel the brakes struggling at the end of the straights. No worries, I will work to get those done for the next event. Either way, it was a lot of fun and definitely worth the drive.
Miata custom leather arm rest
Просмотров 708 месяцев назад
Years ago, I designed an arm rest for tall people who drive Miatas. One of the downers of driving a Miata, for a tall person, is that the factory arm rest ends up pressed against the side of your thigh and it hurts. I designed a low profile unit that I used to sell on my old website- which will be back up soon by the way! Since I have been making new leather parts for my Miata's interior, I fig...
Miata Leather E brake Handle
Просмотров 628 месяцев назад
Over the last few weeks, the Miata got a new shift boot and a new ebrake boot. At this point, I had a further thought, what if the e-brake handle itself also had leather with matching stitching? Well, I just had to find out. So, I redesigned the handle I had so that a large section would be of a smaller diameter and accommodate the thickness of a piece of leather. I did this and then used a pie...
Quick Release Battery Terminals

One of the annoying parts of having multiple vehicles is tending to the charge in the batteries of all of them. If a particular vehicle sits for a while, then it drains its battery and over enough time can even permanently ruin its battery. I made the mistake of allowing this to happen to the AGM battery in my Tacoma and ended up having to buy another one. One solution is to keep all of your un...
I remove the wear indicator because I believe it’s a bad design. People always ride until they hear noise anyway and keep riding until they ruin the rotor I’ve found these to wear uneven anyways I’ve done these Yaris a few times and have seen the original brakes wear in the back brake pad more than the front.
@@DennisPrescott-xp4dk It's been a while since I had this car, so I don't remember too much about the pad wear. I agree that several things could have been designed better.
You should make a hub on your workbench that you could mount the wheel to, allowing it to spin and lock. I’m going to do this to a few RSX and Insight wheels I have! this is good stuff!

I’d also suggest carrying the Clutch Fan with you if you travel. If that cheap electric fan fails. You’ll be able to put the far superior Clutch Fan back on so you don’t get stranded overheating.
Why not mount the Fan to the factory Fan Shroud? It’ll move/pull air across the entire Radiator, instead of just the portion that the Fan is up against. Or, build your own Shroud out of sheet metal.
@@ToyodaMaster-tq6ht there is so much misinformation on shrouds. A shroud really allows a manufacturer to use a fan that is smaller in diameter. With one this big, it's a non issue. Also, at speed, a shroud reduces flow across the radiator which is why road race cars do not run them. I autocross and track, so that is always a consideration for me.
