Kayak Crabbing Monster Blue Crabs 07-27-2024
I made a quick crabbing trip with another kayaker, named Teddy. We would launch early and crab in 4 to 6.5 feet of water on an incoming tide. We each would end up catching a bushel. There were a lot of smaller crabs and many more female crabs showing up. Teddy got his bushel first from his location. My location had more baby crabs, so I stayed out a half hour later that Teddy to top off my bushel. The water was calm which made it a great day to crab. I caught some monster crabs, and boy where they tasty!

Kayak Crabbing Houston We Have a Problem 7-20-2024

I was invited on a crabbing outing by Mike. We would try to see if the crabs were coming back to many of the rivers in the area. It has been a slower than usual crabbing season. With record 100 degrees days and the water temperature of 85 - 87 degrees, many of the crabs would go deeper in the water column during the day. In the morning it is cooler so you will get crabs in the shallow, but afte...
Kayak Fishing for Tasty White Perch 06 21 2024

A day after my birthday, my friend Mike invited me to go fishing with him for the delicious white perch. We picked a launch that we have not visited in many years, hoping that we could find some 9.5 to 12 inch perch. It would be a beach launch for canoes and kayaks. I would end up catching three different species of fish. It would be hot at the parking lot where you can get heat stroke. So we w...

The day was going to be an ideal weather day to get out and do some kayak crabbing. I left early in the morning. Actually, I had to get up at 2:45am. The legal crabbing time is 30 minutes before sunrise. In my case that would be 5:15am that I could start crabbing. Lately, June has been a great month to get big blue crabs. For some reason the percentage of crabs are bigger this time of year. Eve...

I went out with a friend, Jack, to check out a new launch site. At lease it was new to me. Jack had been there before. We were looking to see if the white perch were in this area in force yet. Jack also, brought 10 ring traps to test the water for blue crabs. If we caught some, that would be a bonus! I liked the launch since it had a separate kayak soft launch. Kayak Crabbing Trotline Test Build 04 -9-2024

I built a short 300 foot trotline loaded with bait to give me a lot of data points on the crab concentration in a given tested area. I would make the trotline with baits spaced at 3 foot intervals, therefore, I would need 100 baits to bait to full the line. I would try a creek that was still shallow, around 2- 4 feet on average. This shallow creek would warm up to 66 degrees, which should cause...

      Hi, my parents live in Fort Myers. I am glad that my videos will be of some help to you. Please keep me up to date on how you do in Florida running a trotline. I always wondered why I never saw anyone crabbing that way. I was wondering maybe it was the risk of running into alligators attacking the trotline bait? Most of the kayakers I see use traps or handlines in Florida.

    how to you keep that much trout line from getting tangled up when you are deploying it

    • @MachFishing
      @MachFishing 2 месяца назад

      I find using the thicker rope (line) reduces tangles in general. I think my line is 3/8 inch. for a kayak. Also, using your arm or my PVC guide and a taller (6 or 7 gallon) bucket lifts the rope out of the bucket more vertically thus reducing any tangles.

      @@MachFishing I ended up getting a dozen. I will definitely say it was a struggle at first. I accidentally dropped my basket in the water with my line on it. So spent the first 2 hours untangling it and then had to re lay the line because it was very slack. I also realized I have a very small net. I missed over 2 dozen crabs because they just jumped out of my net. Overall though I had a blast and will be back out again soon! I have a new appreciation for how easy you make it seem

    Decided to dig deep into some of your older videos and found this gem. If you remember, I was messaging you before I moved back to MD. I’ve since boated 30 blue cats using simple setups and the suggestions you gave me. So thanks for that. Do you have any tips on how tides affected fishing, if at all.I’m amazed at just how many species come thru that area. Specks would be at the top of the list. I’m guessing it would be best to wait till cooler weather/fall time? Cheers brother

    • @MachFishing
      @MachFishing 2 месяца назад

      I am glad you were able to get the detectible Blue Catfish. I made some blacken blue catfish the other day and it was very good. For trout, they like clear water and grass beds/grassy shorelines. Find the grass and troll the edge of the grass. Fish seem to get more active as the tide is moving, either from low to high or high to low. Crabs also like eat during a moving tide. So yes, tides do affect fishing and crabbing for the most part.

    • @MachFishing
      @MachFishing 2 месяца назад

      Thanks, I am glad you love my videos! A shorter net would not work on a kayak, since the prop stick that the baited line goes over is a few feet away on my kayak and when the crabs see you, then sometimes want to jump off or swim away from you. The extra length of the net will allow you to dive down for them or have a chance at chasing them and scooping them up. To your point I did, when I first bought my net, cut a few feet off of the handle which is what you see me using in my videos. My next goal is to build a lighter and more nimble net that has a big mouth and an aluminum pole. It should move through the water much quicker for a kayaker. Thanks again for your comment! Keep em coming. :)

    Dang it’s a small world that’s the area I crabbed twice this year, first trip was may 11th only got 10, second trip was may 26th I got 28 all came from 3-5ft water. I was nervous on may 26th the last trip because it was on a Sunday no boaters was out I was alone & it was windy & choppy weather, I launched at 6am pulled my line up around 12

      There are many public launch areas near the Bay Bridge. One you can lookup is Crab Alley, or another is Goodhands.

    Hello from a fellow Marylander love the vids just curious when you say you move your line do you drag it to a new spot or pick it up and relay it down at the new spot

      I move it many ways. But on this trip, since I mistakenly brought my short line, it was easy to pickup everything and put the line in its bucket. I would then move to another location and then redeploy the line.
