Driving Addict

Добавлен 3 дек 2011
Among several things, I have a passion for motorsports. Unfortunately, in the beginning, I did not document the journey aside from posting on Instagram (the_drivingaddict). The resolution going forward is to share my progression in motorsports. The original goal was to simply get to the point that I could take passengers out for a track experience so friends and others could get a first-hand account of why I love this thrilling hobby. I've reached that point. Now I want to advance toward getting my competition license with the end goal of reaching a professional level of racing. My second passion is real estate, and I want to join the two together in a way to encourage others to chase their dreams and provide them a service toward homeownership and their needs thereafter.
Part 2 History of Ownership and Build of my WRX
This video covers a short period of ownership. Only the year of 2015. But the year was a bit of a turning point. Either I could've gotten rid of the car or gone crazy with it. I chose the latter as will be documented in Part 3. The happenings of this video all took place in Oklahoma; what a great time that was.

Closed Deck EJ25 Block and Head Separation Not Good
Просмотров 8914 дней назад
After months of letting it sit and a week waiting for tools to arrive, the long block has finally been separated into the short block and heads. I teased myself by taking off the driver side head first. The passenger side looked fine...upon the initial quick glance. Unfortunately the short block and passenger side head are done.

To correct what I have been regretting for a few years...sharing the entire journey of the build. I want to share as much as I can, to include the vulnerable transparency. My, how much I have forgotten, so things are not going smoothly. Rather than waiting a few days to perform internet magic and act like all was smooth, here's a video explaining the REALITY of what I'm going through.
And the Engine is Finally Out

Probably a secret because I can't remember if I said in a previous video what happened. I speculate that I just blew a head gasket. However, I still am not sure what ALL happened. All I know at this point is that water dripped out as I tried to refill it at the track, water came out of the header when I took it off, and water was in the oil pan. Next up is disassembling, or at least going as fa...
Built WRX 2024 OktoberFast at VIR Session 3...Not an Ideal Ending
Просмотров 2022 месяца назад
Took it easy on the third session because things started to look bad on the second. Well, I should've held off, now I'll be paying tuition. Likely some will say they knew what the issue was, maybe I did to, but I wanted to go on track, especially after finding the blip module. At least I had fun and now there's actual work to be done. Hopefully see you all in a few months!

Because order matters, here is the session 1 video after the session 2 video. This is the first session that I used the blip module in so the driving is quite sloppy due to having to "reprogram" my mind for braking and downshifting. Enjoy!
Built WRX 2024 OktoberFast at VIR Session 2 with X-ineering Blip Module

Title says it all. A bit smoother driving after the first session just getting used to the X-ineering blip module. It definitely changes driving behavior at some points of the track.
Built WRX 2024 VIR OktoberFast Weekend

Went into the weekend super excited thinking all was well. First session said otherwise and my driving was also a mess - mix between cold weather and relearning to drive due to the blip module.. The blip module and the effect it has is incredible! What's not incredible is me being stupid enough to push the car and I now have a big tuition bill. 5 years though, I can't complain, plus the car wen...

Finally have all the bugs worked out! The last bit was a loose CV axle nut on the driver front. Got that replaced and literally all three issues: grinding, misalignment, and squishy brakes, all solved. Feels so good and strong.

Get some Grip edge (or mac RBRT they are all made by grip edge) sockets for the cam sprocket bolts. Life changing for me when I got them. Havnt had any issues since👍
Thanks for the tool recommendation! These are pricey but they look like they can solve a ton of issues and alleviate a lot of stress.
@ yeah they def worth buying. Shit even if you can get just the 10mm one to solve the sprocket issues. Then switch the OEM ones out for the F.U. Bolts 😅
@ Definitely getting the FU bolts. However, there's not a hex head option for the clutch fork pin cover, so the 10mm hex would still be of use.
@@The_DrivingAddict FU bolts for the win! But yeah those sockets come in handy so often. I use them a lot on all sorts of things.
Cool video, great idea to go through the history of the WRX like this. Looking forward to seeing the other parts.
@@codyirl thanks! Been on my mind for a while, but I think with the car being down is the perfect time for the series.
2 min mark buddy was flying
Sweet update video man. Love all the work you have put into this monster.
Thanks! Lots of work still to come. As skill increases so does maintenance and finding weak points.
Subaru boxer engine is basically I time bomb. I feel like Subaru invested like 5 billion into that platform and they cant change. They seem so fragile. A turboed LS1 will do 800hp stock, stock head gaskets snd cooling.. I just truly dont trust ANY boxer motor and they have two damm head gaskets... I feel like Subaru is using owners as a test experiment for their rally team. Transmissions are garbage and they run so hot 🥵. They all run over-heating naturally. I'll stick to my V6 3.5 liter Camry thats faster than a stock STi 😮
All engines are time bombs. I don't think you are speaking from experience with Subarus either. The only times I have had engine issues is when I was an idiot. Even with this current engine, I've been an idiot and it's held up. Not to mention how many V8 cars I've upset. Also, just like with any engine, with LS engines, when pushing beyond what the factory intended, you'll have to upgrade. Texas Speed and Performance and other shops exist for a reason - LS engines aren't invincible. Lastly, let's put your Camry on a rally or road course and see how it stands up to a STI. Easy to be "fast" in a straight line.
You know it's not supposed to sound like ratatouille cookin up something
Not quite picking up what you're trying to put down.
Nice hat Pham 💪

Possible to provide info on steering wheel and adapters? Looking to upgrade mine. Thank you.
Absolutely. The wheel adapter part number is 01502133CA. Can be found anywhere really, but Subimods has it for sure (I'd share the link but the URL is crazy). As for the steering wheel, it's a Sparco L999, I got mine off Amazon, but again, google provides tons of options.
Awesome, 10 year's fom now will hold value and still look clean and slick
They do have a certain appeal...because they are so unique on the road. Though the rusting without salt could be better.
I bet you thought you'd hyperspaced into a video game with crappy graphics.😂
It was almost like the real life joke of, "is your fridge running?...Better go get it."
🤣🤣🤣🤣
We loved the ride along hope to see u again next hyperfest gonna have to get another ride for sure💯
Glad you enjoyed the experience as much as I enjoyed having you as passengers. As long as I don't have another lined up for a ride, you are welcome to come. Hopefully the car will be on another level next time.
It was nice to meet you. I feel you on the cost factor. But I hope to see you again.
Ditto! It was a great weekend of meeting lots of people. VIR is the track I go to most. You will certainly see me again; have to pay, responsibly, to play. Once efforts gain some momentum, I won't be so shy about spending some money.
I mean yes you got passed, but for a quarter of the price you're catching up in the corners 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
I have no shame in getting passed by this. More an honor to share the track with the car. In terms of corners, only because of those two cars "goofing" did I keep up. That Lambo was gone, and I'm betting had ceramic brakes due to where if started slowing down for T1...on the inside!
good energy to hv out there. both nice cars doing what they're made for with good tracc educate.🤞
Much appreciated. To even be on the same track at the same time with that car was awesome. Bet the passenger was terrified.

Very cool, definitely adds a lot to the videos.
Thanks! It's definitely an enhancement. Even I always thought videos looked slow. The speedo adds the perspective.
Have fun this weekend!
Thanks dude! Just got done with the first session. Instructor immediately came up to do a check ride so I could advance, but I had a meeting to get to.
WRX's usually come with a viscous rear diff. Since the fluid has to be contained there are not any holes in the carrier housing. Taking it apart could make a mess. I have gear noise too, but I know where and why. I had to change out the lsd in my STI a few years ago. I wore out the clutches in the oem lsd and upgraded to an OS Giken. The backlash on the R&P were a bit out of spec. I reused the gears (which were otherwise fine), but tightened up the backlash knowing gear noise would result. The gears usually take 500 miles or so to mate in when new. However a used set is already work hardened. It takes much longer to mate again. Decel takes the longer than accel because it has there is less load... coasting takes even longer. At first my gears made noise on accel, decel and when coasting. Now it's just when coasting. It's been years, but not much actual mileage. It could take years more for the noise to go away completely or it may not go away. It doesn't affect anything so I'm ok with it. Thought this info might help.
Thanks for the insight! I've had the V7 6-spd since 2016, but the car had not seen hard driving until 2021. The noise only started near the end of my last track session. I'm happy to have replaced the rear diff, but it did not solve the whining when off throttle/during decel. At this point, it's just drive it until something breaks. Also, I realized I need to be more on top of fluid maintenance.
Ah ok. That is odd. Hard to say what it could be with any certainty. Hopefully you get it figured out.
@@salspec3381 exactly. It's concerning, but the car operates perfect, aside from the LSD doing it's thing on from a stop turns. Could be worn out bushings as a friend pointed out. Either way, going racecar with it, and deal with the pain if any comes.
Clean hawk eye
Thank you! Much appreciated!
Is it just me or is there a blacksmith in the back seat?😅 🔨
😂 Hadn't noticed that until just now when I rewatched. Not sure what is moving around.

Well done! So when are you getting your e36? 😂😂
Passively awaiting someone to offer me one. Haha. Saving my money for lots of racing related stuff and other investments.
Hell yeah man! Keep that momentum going! This is an awesome opportunity!
I'm trying, my friend. I'm not sure where this opportunity will lead, but it's certain that I'd go nowhere if I didn't accept the opportunity.
@@The_DrivingAddict only one way to find out! Godspeed sir!
So stoked to see things coming together for you brother! Keep driving towards your goals! 👏🏼💪🏼💪🏼
Thanks dude. Things falling into place. It's been a wild several months. Lots of stress and discomfort. But lots of help and encouragement to push through.
Nice video man, glad the whole car didn’t fall!
Thanks dude! No kidding. My whole personality nearly crashed into the concrete. Now I just tense up whenever I hear a creak.
The garage looks great after the clean up!
Thank you much! No more parkour to get around. Not even a zip tie on the ground to trap a jack.
Hell yeah! This is some awesome news! Hopefully it works out 🙏
Thanks dude! I was taken back and simultaneously very thrilled when the offer was presented.

Nice video, glad to see you uploading! Keep it up bud.
Is this with muffler and resonator delete?
N1 race is non-resonated. You can call it a muffler if you want, but it doesn't really muffle anything. The inner diameter is the same 3" as the rest of the exhaust.
Very cool! Thanks for sharing
Good stuff man! Keep it up!
Thank you! Will do; working the creative muscle quite hard.
This is sick man, looks like so much fun!
It's an incredible amount of fun. But it's a lot to take in the first few sessions.
