Susan. I have followed your teachings for some time now and have been close to Deb as she’s supported me. I write this comment because pressing into your teachings to learn how to study and apply the word transformed my life. In the last year I’ve not been so great in all areas of my life. One thing I realised today is stopped listening and stopped studying. I stopped Learning with your teachings. I’ve endured some dark trials which left me weeping. Lost and broken. Today I’m ready to begin to get back on track with your studies and I am incredibly thankful that I can see the difference of what your teachings have made in my life and for God revealing this to me today. May God continue to help you remain steadfast. May the lord give you peace and comfort in your life as you continue to do so much for him and the many women around the world. 🙏🏻

I love Susan's teachings. Can you recommend other women's studies that don't have the woman teaching men and women? I'm a little frustrated now as the last two studies I've been in have had the book authors that teach over men and women. The studies were very good, but after the studies were over, I found out these women teach over men also. It seems like the younger women are thinking it's okay. Im 78 and not used to thinking "it's okay" when Scripture clearly states it isn't. 😒

Thanks for the response and clarification! Sounds like your position is nearly identical to the Catholic position. Works and works of the law cannot save us, faith in Christ is necessary. But faith is more than belief, it is trust and true transformation of self that will result in good works. Infused righteousness, that transforms us. I don’t see how you can get around Christ’s explicit words that baptism is needed for salvation, that is the normal way we become part of the body of Christ. This is the best video explaining the catholic position on justification, I hope you’ll take 12 minutes to watch it: ruclips.net/video/BHGGYqXrLT8/видео.htmlsi=xX_-bFt8xmGHfHxE

Hi Bill, thanks for the further comment. I will say my view is very different actually from the Catholic position. Perhaps not in the way that you thought though. I think a common misconception from Catholics toward protestants is that we are saying someone can be saved without subsequently showing their faith by good works. As I noted in my last comment, protestants (at least educated ones) don't deny that true faith will evidence itself by works or fruits. But where we do differ a lot from Catholics is our view of what justification is. Bishop Barren, in that sermon, denies a protestant (and biblical) view of justification. He says that justification is not a forensic declaration of righteousness before God. But that is exactly what justification is. It is the opposite of condemnation, which is the declaration of a judge saying, "guilty as charged." Justification is when the judge says, "innocent, vindicated, righteous, free to go." They also evidently deny the imputed righteousness of Christ, which protestants hold to. That is, this righteous standing we have before God is not based on any infused righteousness in us, but rather based on Christ's righteousness "counted" or "reckoned" (that is what imputed means) to us. Even though we are not righteous (we are ungodly sinners) God counts us as righteousness because Christ has forgiven our sins and counted his righteousness to us. That is the full meaning of justification: we are forgiven and reckoned righteous in Christ before God through his own righteous life and death on the cross on our behalf. Our works do not add to our justification one iota. Therefore, faith alone. Protestants do not deny that when the Holy Spirit regenerates us (makes us new creatures and grants us faith and repentance) that he changes our hearts and implants holiness which continues to grow (as I said earlier). But this is not the reason why we are justified before God. That seed of holiness in an infant Christian or even full grown holiness in a mature Christian will never be enough to justify us before God. We will be growing in holiness and putting sin to death till the day we die. Only after that is perfection. And only Christ's perfect righteousness and sacrificial death can earn us a place before the perfectly holy God. As for baptism, we believe it is important at our church, and should be practiced following personal salvation. At the same time, we recognize it is not as important as salvation itself. The OT saints were saved without baptism, and the thief on the cross died without baptism. If at all possible, after salvation, Christians should be baptized though. There are a lot of terms Catholics use in a different sense than protestants, as you can see. I hope that helps clarify. At the end of the day, I believe historical Catholicism is a different religion than biblical Christianity. But I desire to see Catholics growing in their understanding of Scripture. Check out this quick video and other videos by this guy as a good resource: ruclips.net/video/EBAK_Oc6SsI/видео.html. Thanks Bill! Pastor Rory

“Faith alone” is explicitly anti-biblical. “What does it profit, my brethren, if a man says he has faith but has not works? Can his faith save him? So faith by itself, if it has no works, is dead. You see that faith was active along with his works, and faith was completed by works, You see that a man is justified by works and not by faith alone.” ‭‭James‬ ‭2‬:‭14‬, ‭17‬, ‭22‬, ‭24‬ “For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision nor uncircumcision is of any avail, but faith working through love.” ‭‭Galatians‬ ‭5‬:‭6‬ “And behold, one came up to him, saying, “Teacher, what good deed must I do, to have eternal life?” And he said to him, “Why do you ask me about what is good? One there is who is good. If you would enter life, keep the commandments.” He said to him, “Which?” And Jesus said, “You shall not kill, You shall not commit adultery, You shall not steal, You shall not bear false witness, Honor your father and mother, and, You shall love your neighbor as yourself.”” ‭‭Matthew‬ ‭19‬:‭16‬-‭19‬ “He who believes and is baptized will be saved; but he who does not believe will be condemned.” ‭‭Mark‬ ‭16‬:‭16 Belief (faith/trust), baptism, and following the commandments are…per Jesus, Paul, and James…needed for salvation. This is explicit in the Bible.

Hi Bill, not sure we've seen you at our church before, but thanks for the comment, wherever you are from! As protestants, we don't believe in faith without works. We believe someone is justified (declared righteous) before God by faith alone in Christ alone. But the faith that saves is never alone. True faith will be accompanied by good works, and so that is why James confronts those who say they believe in Christ when they do not show their faith by works. When God saves us and justifies us, he implants holiness in us that continues to grow. There is therefore, a "holiness without which no one will see the Lord" (Hebrews 12:14). Our faith is "justified" or "vindicated" before others by our works. We are saved for the purpose of good works which God prepared beforehand (Ephesians 2:8-10). Nevertheless, it is abundantly clear in Scripture that neither works, obedience, holiness, or baptism earns God's favor such that we are justified or saved from his wrath by them. In fact, those who trust in their own righteousness to save them are in a very dangerous position before God--they will be damned if they do not humbly confess their sin and receive the free gift of life in Christ Jesus. Galatians 2:16: "yet we know that a person is not justified by works of the law but through faith in Jesus Christ, so we also have believed in Christ Jesus, in order to be justified by faith in Christ and not by works of the law, because by works of the law no one will be justified." Romans 4:5: "And to the one who does not work but believes in him who justifies the ungodly, his faith is counted as righteousness." Romans 10:2-3: "For I bear them witness that they have a zeal for God, but not according to knowledge. For, being ignorant of the righteousness of God, and seeking to establish their own, they did not submit to God's righteousness." Ephesians 2:8-10: "For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast. For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them." Mark 2:17: "And when Jesus heard it, he said to them, “Those who are well have no need of a physician, but those who are sick. I came not to call the righteous, but sinners.” Luke 18:9-14: "He also told this parable to some who trusted in themselves that they were righteous, and treated others with contempt: “Two men went up into the temple to pray, one a Pharisee and the other a tax collector. The Pharisee, standing by himself, prayed thus: ‘God, I thank you that I am not like other men, extortioners, unjust, adulterers, or even like this tax collector. I fast twice a week; I give tithes of all that I get.’ But the tax collector, standing far off, would not even lift up his eyes to heaven, but beat his breast, saying, ‘God, be merciful to me, a sinner!’ I tell you, this man went down to his house justified, rather than the other. For everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, but the one who humbles himself will be exalted." I hope this reply is helpful for your study as you seek to understand God's word and his way of salvation. Praying for you! God bless.

The majority of the Pastors and Seminaries in Canada need to follow the example of this Pastor at the 38:14 mark. God bless you Pastor for your humility and faithfulness. Sadly after two years this sermon was preached, the majority of Pastors and Theologians in Canada have not humbled themselves before their congregations, have remained stiff necked and have not made any sincere attempt of repentance nor restitution before their respective flocks. So sad. May the Lord richly bless Coram Deo Baptist Church as you seek to obey and glorify the risen Saviour in spirit and in truth.
