Laurel Makes It
США
Добавлен 14 ноя 2018
I'm Laurel, and I like to make things! I'm sewist and maker. I bet you're a maker too, or want to be!
I share the process, with fun tips, walk-throughs and tutorials to, hopefully, inspire you to make something yourself.
I love to challenge myself by experimenting with and trying new sewing and craft and projects. I also love to customize projects to really make them my own and be something I'm proud of. And you can do it, too!
Making things can be frustrating at times. Instructions don't make sense, feel overwhelming or you run into unexpected roadblocks. Sometimes you might want to give up on something and put it away. I hope to help instill the confidence to try something new, get creative and problem solve so we can have projects we love! Sometimes the harder we work on something, the more special it becomes because we didn't give up!

I made a piece of paper cut art! I've never done something like this before and it was a fun new experience. Using a template made it a great starting project for learning to make a paper cut artwork. The pattern is called "Falling" and here's the link if you want to give it a go and make it for yourself: www.etsy.com/listing/287999167/falling-cut-your-own-3d-shadow-box?ga_order=most_relevant&g...
Making Cardigans || Helen's Closet "Blackwood Cardigan"

I made some cardigans, and it was a really fun project. It making a custom one was really rewarding too, even if it wasn't the most practical! If you’d like to make your own, I think it's a good beginner project for learning to sew with knit fabric. Here’s some links if you'd like to make one (or even more!). Making a Large, chunky knit blanket

I made one of those big, chunky knit blankets! It was a fun learning experience, and definitely a challenge trying to make it as fast as I could. If you'd like to give it a try, here’s the link to the yarn I used: www.michaels.com/chunky-luxe-big-yarn-by-loops-and-threads/10519317.html And that video you see me looking at for casting-on and stuff, you can find that here: ruclips.net/video/pX7cs...

Making Custom Flannel Pajama Pants
Просмотров 3815 лет назад
I *love* pajama pants, and I love cute flannel. I made a pair of Pajama pants out of some super cute avocado (or should I say Avo-cuddle) fabric and some knit rib fabric. Pajama pants are a great starter sewing project, and really satisfying when it's finished! The pattern I used is McCalls M6659 (with alterations, of course). And you can get the fabric here: www.joann.com/snuggle-flannel-fabri...
Making a Snap Model || Perfect Cell from Dragon Ball Z
Просмотров 2325 лет назад
I made a Perfect Cell model! I love these snap together models, and also Dragon Ball, but that's probably pretty obvious, they are so fun! They’re kinda like fancy Legos. They're a great project to make in an evening or two, and easy to learn how to do. The instructions are pretty clear because they're pictures, but if you get lost along the way, this video is shot step for step so might be hel...
Making art with an "Let's make art" box

I decided it'd be fun to try doing some watercolor and since the ads for "Let's Make Art" kept showing up in my social feeds I went, "Heck, why not?!" I like watercolor and making art, but can get frustrated because I'm not the best at it, so it was fun to follow along with these projects. You can find me on instagram! I like to post pictures of my projects and my cats! laurelmake...
Making a Modern Triangle Quilt
Просмотров 1135 лет назад
I made an "Equilateral Quilt" that's a free pattern from Art Gallery Fabrics. I like these modern triangle quilts a lot and I enjoyed making one myself. When it comes to quilts it's a pretty simple patchwork pattern and I think it'd make a good starter quilt. I didn't use AGF fabrics and deviated a bit, but it still turned out pretty neat and it was fun! I don't make a lot of quilts, on average...

What are the items that I absolutely need that are outside of the kit?
I love the voice over narration. The instructions are sketchy and the fast forward demo's are never clear.
Amazing. Love all the extras. I'm keen to make my own sewing room.
This is so good. I like your personal touches. It looks great.
It's cool but the speed of the video is dizzying
Very nice! But the old time books and pictures (that you don't like) are included because the project is an old-time sewing room.. which is why there's an old-time sewing machine and an old coffee grinder, old-time hat. It's a vintage. So yours is a combination, I suppose.
I'm so glad I watched your video before I started ☺️ By chance would you sell some of your cricut vinyl letterings for the awnings and stuff? I love how the fabric turned out
What machine are you using?
Love the tshirt to tank trick!
use a bigger paintbrush
Great video
Thank you!
What do you think about the cricut?
I like it! But I don't use it very much, I tend to forget about it half the time
This is crazy good!! I was so impressed with this whole video! 🥰
Thank you so much!!
So much fun to watch and your voice-over is fabulous. I'm waiting for this kit to arrive and can't wait now! 😂💗
Thank you so much! Hope you have just as much fun with your.
I've just been given this kit for my birthday. You've really inspired me to give it ago
Great video! I'm looking at one of those kits (not this exact one) for my daughter. I wanted to see the building process which you showed but with sooo much added value!! I'll tell my daughter to watch it to get ideas on how to customize her kit.
Respect the grind
I've just bought this kit. You've made a beautiful job of yours. It's stunning. Customised to personal taste is the best.
Love what you've done here! I'm in the process of personalizing this kit and really enjoying it!
Absolutely positively beautiful and thank you so much for sharing your time and your Artistry with others hopefully I can achieve at some point your beauty that you producing once again thank you for your time and effort and Beauty you bestow upon this world

So lovely 😍
Thank you! It was really fun to make.
You are hilarious! That was fun!!!
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed it!
Beautiful!!!
Love this.. all your errors and how you corrected them..perfect!! I have this kit.. will be making it soon.
I love your narration! You made this video so interesting. I'll be watching more.
Thank you!
You can add cornstarch to the paint to make it cover better.
I am 100% going to try that next time!
Well done Laurel. Thanks for sharing all your clever tricks!
Ameiiiii, trabalho maravilhoso 🥰
To bend paper sharp & neat. I score with a fine ball pen without ink.
Next time you need metal a soda can works. They are silver in the inside.
Good idea! I'll have to remember that for next time because the odds are quite high I'll run into the same problem again 😆
Waaaaaaahahahaha....you are heeeelarious and very entertaining!!! Thank you!
Thank you!
Brilliant, thank you!
Your voiceover is great 😊 and thank you for sharing your mistakes so I can learn on them too ☺️
I went totally OTT and smooshed 3 shop kits together to make an old fashioned general villiage store for my 1:18th diorama....then I broke my right arm and cant do anything! its driving me crazy! I messed about with the scale a bit to make it fit the fantasy 1800 village I am making with action figures and animals. I have a cool 1:15th Tudor house that I cant assemble yet...fruatration! I subbed by the way being another who cant leave kits in their original form either! I always love what you do with stuff and this is great as ever! Love your cat too...I have a Bengal and she has been super naughty since I broke my arm...she is into everything and theres workmens scaffolding around my apartment too at the moment so she has been going out one window and in the next giving me heart attacks!!
I dont know Laurel but the working windows (and doors/drawers) makes me happy too and its not rocket science is it? Wow what an improvement on the original...I love it!
Omg are you racing with your voice slow down or edit the mistakes. It's not easy and simple when someone is look at this video for reference. This would make me never click on your videos again.
How absolutely adorable this was to watch! Impressive
Thank you so much!
I love watching you put your little rooms together. You’re hilarious. I also love that you kept your mistakes in. Made me feel a lot better knowing I’m not the only one who sticks wrong pieces together. Thanks. 🙂😂😂
Thank you very much! Glad you enjoyed it
💯 😊 😍
Blisters is from the glue
Oh really appreciate your video. It help demystify this process for me. One quick question, are you sewing over the pins or are you taking them out? With the speed of the video I couldn't quite tell. Thanks!
Usually I take them out RIGHT before I'm about to sew over them. I tend to play chicken with taking out pins. Glad the video helped a little!
What are those white pieces you are using to make the deep effect on the artwork?
They're little sticky/double sided foam squares. I got mine at Michaels but you can usually find them at any craft store in the scrapbooking section. These are the ones I used: www.michaels.com/recollections-foam-adhesive-squares/10318095.html
my fav is the very entertaining voiceover.
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed it.
Amazing work❤
Firstly, I LOVE your tattoo! A Pantone chip! It's brilliant! I'm making this kit too, but I'm letting myself get caught up on some of the scale issues. The chair seems too small for the treadle machine and some of the accessories aren't scaled correctly, like those huge scissors. But, once you got your all put together, it looks great. I'm doing more painting today, painting all my furniture white like it is in my real sewing room. Thanks for sharing yours! I'm sure I'll be coming back to your video for reference numerous times. 🏠
First of all Thank You! It is kinda weird with all the scale differences. I remember think the same thing about those scissors. I'm glad you enjoyed the video and hope you are having lots of fun putting yours together!
Thank you for this video! Very helpful and I used a few of your additions such as the cardstock siding and the silver paint on the corrugated cardboard. One thing I would suggest to anyone who wants to build this model to save yourself some frustration: use dark brown acrylic paint instead of the stain that's included for the styrofoam. It sticks much better. Thanks again! This was my first ever model and I was completely intimidated but actually it wasn't that hard and I'm genuinely amazed with how well it turned out.
That's so awesome! I wish I would have thought about the acrylic for the the foam, brilliant! Miniatures can be so addicting, so I hope you have just as much fun with the next one.
hello, what glue were you using?
Hello! I used several different glues: Aleene's Tacky Glue, Elmer's Glue All white glue, Elmer's wood glue, and "3-in-1Advanced craft glue" (it's a silicone based craft glue). Hope that helps!
