I just got my GPL. I'm considering signing up for an aerobatics course before getting into cross country. Not for the fun flying per se, but rather to really get to know the how much more I 'push' the glider.... is this a good idea?
Go for it. Get to know the flight envelope limitations and get used to unusual attitudes, and how best to recover from them. Enjoy.
Awesome video! This was a good aerobatic flight! Congratulation to the student pilot 😉
One of my first instructors were an Eurofighter pilot (JG 71 Richthofen). On our second flight he showed me his interpretation of "having fun" in the air and pulled almost 4 G. No, not my cup of tea... :-)
Beautiful video. I havent flown a glider for more than 15 years. Maybe it's time to start again.
I owned that lovely aeroplane for 16 years. Got my PPL in it and did lots of upgrades
Hi, I did many trips in it with Mark. He has sold it now and has a Europa.
so cool
no aileron roll?
Hi Mark. I'm still working my way through the manoeuvres. Can fly and turn inverted, just not cleared for rolling yet
A true internet gem.
Nice flying.. I am a piston pilot, so dislike the slow roll and quick acceleration with gliders in the vertical IS the proper way to learn to fly - the stick controls speed; engine controls rate of descent. I built/flew aerobat C-IAVW, 6,000+ rivets. CAVU skies!
thanks for watching. I've never tried power aeros, so am used to glider rates of roll/acceleration. I have a friend who is a power aerobatic pilot, I must get a ride with him one day.
@@webbevents Glider roll rates slow with those long wings. My biplane would roll 360 in 3 seconds; my friends Ultimate 10-200, in ! second!! I have pulled 7G (had recording G meters) and experience tunnel/blackout......my brother has 2 gliders, one in a box....fits wings on and even puts tape over join; flies for 2 hours; returning, finds wings NOT secured and only the tape keeping things together! Jaysus! Gliding cool - real piloting, and such beautiful a/c.
@@davidwheatcroft2797 scary!!! Glad the wings stayed on til he landed.
@@webbevents Yes! I told him that this will kill you. Flying very unforgiving, and pilots rarely hurt; killed. I had a spiral dive in heavy cloud, and was seconds from death at 300+kts; wanted to panic, but did not. My brother flies an RV8 - super nice a/c; aerobatic, 200HP; jumps off the ground!
Cockpits need a hoover Webby!
There is a tendency to discover that when doing negative G stuff. I remember my instructor demonstrating the amount of force needed to avoid stalling during an engine failure right after takeoff, and we discovered noone had vacuumed out the thing in a while. Gravel, grass clippings, a pen, etc, comes flying... I never finished my license, so I haven't had a chance to experience it since though.
Duo Discus ist schön❤❤❤😊
Beautiful!
Lowest aerobatic maneuver - 350 feet. Is it legal in UK?
Not really attempting to centre the thermal!! Ease off the bank a bit when the lift reduces, tighten up the bank angle when it increases...Chris Rollings method..usually works!!
🤮
I always liked the Libelle, even more than its Glasflügel stablemates, the Hornet and Mosquito.
This place is so cool..
Must curb my swearing!
don't think anyone noticed..... ;)
I love it when you pick up that lift after a launch - it’s a shame it went.
thanks. The video is a series of clips from that flight. Over 2 hours in the air.
This Libelle was at the Marchington club for years.
Reckless.
Yes!
Very poor airmanship! No look out turns prior to commencing the sequence straight off the tow! That flight is all about the pilot and not the trainee/student! 🤢
Hi Graeme. I can't speak for the pilot, but I'm sure he had everything covered. This was purely a joyride for me. End of the day at the Interservices Comp. The glider went on to perform a pyrotechnic flight that evening, if I remember rightly.
Nice work chasing that thermal. 2,800ft and sitting comfortably. :)
Thanks Mick.
Great video, interesting to follow these maneuvers from cockpit view in the fox. Scary low altitude work though...
thanks for watching. Yeah, all my normal circuit heights went out of the window. Pilot is Chief Flying Instructor and Display pilot. Awesome ride.
Release to ground roll in 4 minutes 20 seconds, that's one hell of a sink rate from 4000' agl!!!! Awesome flying, especially the inverted down wind leg!
was an awesome flight. CFI, aero instructor and display pilot. I was in good hands
You dont pull the airbrake during the final curve, thats a dangerous game to play with a plane that has its attitudes
Do you fly this Libelle now in 2020? What can you say about this glider - its pluses and minuses? Thank you!
Have been feeding starlings, finches, blue tits, pidgins etc etc for months, amazing to see them go from brown to these white spots on black plumage. Had to stop feeding them feed balls as they were getting very aggressive with one another so I feed them seeds etc . Thing is there are not many around these days (September) maybe a couple as every day there was at least 40 at feeders. Do Starlings go to other places in September?? Nice video 😷👍
Thanks for commenting. I think they are still here, probably getting fed on the ripe crops that are around. Not so many in the garden now the babies have grown
webbevents thank you Best wishes 🇮🇪☘️👍
it rolls like a fighter, damn sailplanes have won, i will start flying soon.....
This glider is designed for aerobatics. Normal gliders don't roll quite as fast.
@@webbevents Yeah i know, it still amaze me, i have flown extra 300 and steen skybolt, the extra was like 360 degres a second, but the steen skybolt was close to this. and the tolerance with the long wings, just wow the things you can do with the power of the sun
Where do you place your GoPro?
hi, it was on a sucker, on the canopy.
webbevents thankyou
What a great vid thanks for sharing 👍🏻👍🏻
thanks for watching
Nice video, you were in Aden city when you were 9 years old , right . Could you give us more information! Or videos and pictures of Aden at that time , and thank you
hi, it was a long time ago, no photos from the family. sorry

Nice calm flying, gving the plane some time to respond. Enjoyed it Mr. Webb!
Marc Lohman thanks for watching and your kind comment. The LS8 is my favourite glider,
Very relaxing
Tango Tango thanks for watching
I flied 3 times with this plane in MAMMARI...i really miss IT!!! KEEP GOING GUYS!!
scary
have to turn steeper for that thermal!
Thanks! Remembered early 80's! Old times, good times!!

Brilliant! Just caught sight of the motor-falke in the hangar flight video. Have spent ages on google earth looking for the new gliding site. Great to see Cu in the sky too. Good luck. Regards to Avo. Dick Parker. Alberta, Canada
