This is a total joke to turn our kids into morons. Private companies should NOT be in charge of public education.

If you listen to this video they are asking the students to express the fairness in the prices of the ride and then they will have them right about the unfairness. They are teaching them to think like a socialist and express themselves using just emotion and not facts. This is not math.

I did not learn that this year.. im in 9th grade.. we learned way much harder stuff that what was shown in the video.. I was not learned to use common core all my life so its really hard for most people in my school to understand and do the work.. I used to be great in math and no one had a major problem with "the old way".. common core gave me depression and aniexty.. one of the causes of it.. I feel stupid because I dont know how to solve the problems and my teacher said that we are learning 11th and 12 th grader stuff in 9th grade from common core... its not fare to the students that were fine with the old way of math.. and it was less stressful...

We were learning this stuff in 6th and 7th grades, not 9th. That was well over a decade ago. Preparing students for a global economy? More like preparing them to use sticks and stones to perform basic arithmetic.

i love how every common core video i see the students are in groups..... in the real world you're not going to have a group to help you understand....

I hate common core. I'm 14 and in 9th grade. I usually get 80's and low 90's for my grades. Math is the only subject now that I have a problem with. I have absolutely no idea what i'm doing. I just failed my first math quiz since 6th grade. Honestly I hope everyone fails, so the school is forced to make it much easier for us. It seems like half the kids mostly understand it and half barely at all. (I'm the second half). It's just so stressful.

@tehflud what you don't understand is that there were already concessions made, such as change in health insurance. to open the contract would risk not even having one. keep in mind the contract also protects the district because it sets out what is required of teachers. how naive of you to believe the tripe that all negotiations are "one sided". not true, look up "negotiate" in the dictionary.

The really difficult part is that it's not just the people laid off that are in for a struggle. The teachers left behind are going to have even more on their shoulders, I'm sure many will retire early or leave teaching for good with the added pressure. And certainly young people who once considered going into teaching in the Milwaukee area will choose not to. While I didn't attend MPS, I did live in Milw for 10 years and I can't imagine this improving the city at all.

Its unfortunate that those who received letters just started to find out this week whether or not they were going to be laid off or not. which pretty much left them up in the air about if they were going to have a job or not in the fall. Now they are going to have to start their jobhunting late which is going to be a headache because there are NO jobs!

@tehflud Please understand the contracts were negotiated prior to Walker taking office. Also know teachers are not to blame. I pray that some meeting takes place so there can be a vote on it. The unfortunate thing is that once the contract is reopened, then all items previously negotiated will have the possibility of becoming void. It appears that everyone is so worried about money and blaming others that one one is focusing on answers to help educate the children.

joniwalkersimmons, get real, it's their own selfish decisions that resulted from this, had they waited for the collective bargaining changes, they would have been able to save most if not all of those jobs. Stop being an ignorant moron and educate yourself.

519 families are affected in a economic downward spiral. In the lowest economic Urban city in the USA. THANKS, once again Governor Walker for the kick in the ass again. Choosing business over human lives. Can't wait to the next election.

I know that the media is utilizing your comments as well as the governors to implicate that the educators are unwilling to negotiate. You have some excellent teachers within MPS regardless as to what the media assumes and we are willing to do whatever it takes to educate our students.
