R.I.P. Frederick, who passed from Cancer at the age of 91 on November 13th, 2022. I had the privilege of attending one of his organ recitals.. He knew how to use every resource of the organ.... I spoke to him briefly, he was exhausted after more than an hour of playing..

Can't we hear the andante movements from Widor 6 ? They are exquisite.

That organ must be awesome in person.

That Organ has the most amazing PEDAL sound....Myer's Park Methodist Church in Charlotte N. C., is the only Organ that can compete with the Pedal board sound. Awesome!

I play an Allen organ at church. What are your more favorite digital organs? Viscount? Rodgers? Everyone is using "Hauptwerk" organ software now, but I still prefer the simplicity of a good digital organ. They have an Allen organ in Saint Peter's Church at the Vatican. 🎹

I was able to have some hands-on with this glorious instrument in the mid-1980s, thanks to host Mark Thallander who graciously hosted me.

Hate this. Might be a brilliant organist but his interpretation of this is pathetic......noise!

As an early teenage organ student, I heard Swann play this on the Kotzschmar Memorial Organ in City Hall Auditorium in Portland, Maine. I'd never heard anything like it: such sound, such playing, such a moving interpretation! I was hooked!

Love the hymn, and love organ music, but my honest opinion is this, tho' well played, is a poor, over active rendition of Amazing Grace. There is Sooo much going on, that i couldn't make out the tune! I am not an organist, or even a good musician (merely a mediocre harper), so i don't have the right to criticize Mr. Wilson. I'm just stating my humble opinion. 🎶🥺🎵🎶

A fabulous organ indeed,with so many sounds on it,thanks to everyone who is in charge of this magnificent instrument for letting it be used to show off the amazing amount of music that organs like this are capable of producing.

Even on its worst day, the Hazel still had more resources that worked that most organists ever have. I’m very glad the Catholics took the time and money to bring it back 100%! And it sounds wonderful!

Grew up listening to this organ every Sunday on TV. Glad to see it’s been restored back to full operation!

I guess it’s safe to say this congregation is full rock-n-roll music now in the services? We call it the “7-11” music…repeat the same 7 words, 11 times.

Even in bad shape, Hazel sounds like something most church organists would be drooling to have.

In his own liner notes from this very album, Mr. Biggs stated that the original recording was made in the spring of 1953. It is quite possible that he might have re-recorded the Fugue a year later. Sadly, owing to a dispute with G. Donald Harrison, the head of Aeolian-Skinner, the other works which he did record at that time were never released, and he did not make ANY further recordings at Methuen until late 1975--AFTER both Harrison and Aeolian-Skinner had given up the proverbial ghost! (The master tapes of the other recordings from the 1953 sessions re in the E. Power Biggs Collection at Boston University.)

This is truly an amazing instrument. In response to SotreeDenson's reply, my church (nationwide) has moved away from the organ. The organ in my congregation - now only played for the opening hymn - has given way to two pianos in the sanctuary. Almost all our music is contemporary. Sure, beautiful piano arrangements are welcome, but a piano is always... just a piano. In contrast, our sister churches in Germany have ordered over 16 custom Allen organs. I'm jealous!
