Reduction & Repotting a Ficus Stock Plant
I wanted to show how to take a stock plant and fix her up a bit and put her back into a stockpot.
This ficus was in desperate need of a reduction. There was also a large surface roof that needed to be removed. I left everything else as it was as to not stress her too much.
I use the same media that I use in a regular bonsai plant. Three parts, cinder, and one part moisture control, potting soil.
I will put the replanted stock plant into the morning garden for at least a month. Be sure to water thoroughly after any replanting.
Happy Bonsai!!

Bonsai Golden Jennie #2 Replanting
Просмотров 5414 дней назад
This golden Jennie needed a trim, brushing and repotting. I made a new Apex for a better taper. I pulled off the tips of each leaf to encourage growth in the lower area. I used a brass wire brush for brushing. This removes any moss or anything that is attached itself to the branches. I did a root trim, that she needed, and then put her back in her same pot. I then decorated with a little moss l...
Bonsai Dwarf Schefflera Reduction & Replanting
Просмотров 22128 дней назад
This Dwarf Schefflera is a tropical tree, so it grows fast. It is also a very good indoor plant next to a window. I created a new Apex by eliminating one of the three branches growing out of the same spot. I chose that branch because of taper. You must always think of taper! I gave her a brushing with my brass wire brush to remove moss and build up on the branches. The media that I use is a thr...
Bonsai Juniper Nana Planting
Просмотров 14928 дней назад
This juniper Nona was a stock plant. The roots have already been trimmed previous times before. That is why there was no tap root to speak of. I did a light brushing with my brass wire brush to remove any Moss or growth on the branches! I did some light trimming, nothing too heavy, just cleaned her up a bit. I use a 3 Part Cinder (1/4 inch) and one part potting soil, moisture control for my med...
Bonsai Curly Banyan Reduction & Replanting
Просмотров 167Месяц назад
These little Curly Banyans are so fun to work with! They are such fast growers, easy to propagate, and so darn cute! I put these starts in regular soil, no vermiculite, no, super thrive, and they did great! They are very definitely a hearty tree! I had to do a reduction to encourage good taper, and stimulate growth on the lower area of the tree. As my Bonsai Master has said before, you must hav...
Bonsai Christmas Gifts
Просмотров 80Месяц назад
More powder puffs! I started these 3 plantings early so that they would have time to be established for Christmas gifts. A new planting needs to be in its new pot for about three months to be properly established for gift or sale. Be sure you prep your pot before taking your plant out of its pot! I did a light brushing with a brass wire brush. I also did some trimming. Be sure to water your pla...
Bonsai Dwarf Variegated Gardenia Replanting
Просмотров 102Месяц назад
A part of this Dwarf Variegated Gardenia died, almost half. It created a windswept look when that happened. When you have lemons, make lemonade! Hence the windswept! I did some trimming and brushing with my brass wire brush. I did this and prepped the pot before removing the plant from its original pot. I do not like the roots to be exposed to the air for very long. I did a root trim to encoura...
Bonsai Chabo Reduction & Replanting
Просмотров 1,3 тыс.Месяц назад
I thought I would do a replanting since it is the season for my area. More will be coming! The Chabo got a reduction in order to achieve good taper. It can be intimidating to make such a large cut, be brave! Also trimmed all over and brushed her with a brass wire brush. I love to do repotting! Probably because it is bringing the design factor back into it. I love designing, creating them! I cha...
Bonsai Dwarf Variegated Gardenia Love & Attention
Просмотров 882 месяца назад
I am slightly trimming this Dwarf Variegated Gardenia for better taper and style. Then a little soft brushing with my brass wire brush to remove anything on the branches and trunk. I have a lot of moss growth where I live, so I brush almost every time! Super soft brushing with this one! I really like how the redecorating went with the moss and lichen! For all the fast growth and taking over tha...
Bonsai Update on Previous Plants
Просмотров 782 месяца назад
I wanted to give an update on a few of the girls that I had shone in previous videos. Some changes we were hoping to achieve have happened and I wanted to give an update. The Deodar Cedar had a few more limbs removed and some wire was put on for shaping. The variegated Gumi had her leaves trimmed off to encourage smaller leaf growth. On this one you can also only cut 3/4 of the leaf to encourag...
What to look for in a Bonsai Tree with Jon Morishita
Просмотров 4552 месяца назад
I thought that it would be informative for everyone if we could get a little advice on picking a Bonsai tree from Jon. After the tour of the Dojo of course! I love architecture! We go over several different trees to show what to look for, TAPER, health, as well as potential style options. I trimmed and wired the baby Deodar Cedar that Jon gifted me. I hope this was an informative video in helpi...
Bonsai Dwarf Powder Puff Planting
Просмотров 802 месяца назад
My favorite thing to do in Bonsai is to create one! I gave the Powder Puff a brushing with a brass wire brush and gave her a new apex while trimming all the other branches. I always prep my pot first then start taking the tree out of its pot. I used a quarter inch rock at the bottom then soil media on top to prepare for tree. After trimming roots I put in tree. Fill in with dirt and press in wi...
Bonsai Dwarf Variegated Pyracantha Love & Attention
Просмотров 862 месяца назад
This Pyracantha really needed a brushing so I used a brass wire brush to remove all the different moss. Brush gently on this one! I trimmed branches and made a new apex to gain a better taper in the future. I even wired a bit, to the best of my abilities. Lol! Also had to reduce that lichen! Boy it was happy to be in there! Now she looks much more appropriately sized. I miss playing Sims! Happy...
Bonsai Juniper Nana Love & Attention
Просмотров 913 месяца назад
This Juniper Nana got a very much needed cleaning and a trim! I use a brass wire brush to remove all the moss from the branches and trunk. I cleaned out all the weeds. I enjoy rocks in my plantings, so I put one in of course! Also a bit of moss and lichen went in. I feel that moss and lichen give it that final touch! Happy Bonsai!
Bonsai Root Over Rock Candle Tree
Просмотров 1,4 тыс.3 месяца назад
The Candle Tree went on a field trip to the Bonsai Workshop! The moss vine and regular moss was brushed off the branches and roots with a brass wire brush. Brush carefully! Also did trimming of branches to achieve good taper and style! Weeding, a constant here. They grow so fast!! Happy Bonsai!

Bonsai Deodar Cedar Love & Attention
Nice repotting. Tree looks good in the pot after all that work. Great video.
Massive bulbous root. Nice chop. Wise letting the other big one on until the tree recovers for you.
Off with their heads, as the queen would say from Alice in Wonderland, the Queen of Hearts. Try lipstick or TiteBond wood glue. Lipstick is a natural wax that women use on their lips. I bet you can find the color to match the bark of the tree. Just a thought.
Kiss 2 is like my cat, Kevin. Always hogging the camera and wanting to get into the action. They are great friends.
Foist! 2nd to like
Noice
I loved your enthusiasm and the fact you have had the courage to get the wire on as well. This is what makes Bonsai such a wonderful hobby. I shall look forward to some updates :)
Good morning Stacy. Election Day today. I never heard that name for it. I call it Thuja Occidentalis, or Northern White Cedar. I have quite a few that my mom started. They are a tough tree to tame.
My Bonsai Master named this one! I have noticed that Hawaii likes to names plants different than the mainland!
FOIST AND TO LIKE ALSO!!!!
Thanku for your comment! Always foisting lol!
Sooper noice
Thanku so much, and for watching!
Catching up on videos. Good Grief! Missed this one fantastic video. Great work on the tree's roots and pruning. Landscape is cool. Finished work, Super Cool!
So glad you are catching up and you liked it! I was saying in another comment that time is flying by! November already...what!?
How the hell did I miss this 7 days ago? Well anyway I'm watching now. Nice tree Nice pot! I tried to like the video but it said this action isn't allowed!? Odd. Thanks for the video Stacy! Edit: it finally let me leave a well deserved like !
Lol! Thanku for watching and liking! Time is going by so fast its easy to miss one! Is it really November already!!?
You had me at "propagate". I judge people that throw away their cuttings.
LOL!! Me too! I feel guilty throwing them out!
That is a very nice pot you are putting the tree into. Nice work on the roots and tree. Superb looking tree for spring growth.
Thanku, I love a good pot!!
Looks very nice stacy!
Thank you! 🤗
Big improvement. I defoliated mine a couple of weeks ago. It hasn’t started to refoliate yet, and last night I forgot to turn the heat on in my greenhouse. It got down to 48! Oops. I hope she recovers. Thanks hour this relaxing video
You are very welcome! I hope your baby recovers too! That is something I don't have to worry about, it never gets cold here! Hats off to you for doing Bonsai in cold weather regions!
Hello A nice trunk line will make a nice bonsai. Greetings Bonsai Mario
Hello! Thanku for watching! Its all about taper, isn't it!!
Looks great, I like the homemade pot!
Thanku so much! I have been thinking of making some concrete pots for myself. Endless unique pots!? Oh yeah!
Interesting tree. Thanks for the constant reminders to prep the pot first. I always fall into that trap!
I love the quirky leaves, so different. My Bonsai Master really stressed to me the importance of prepping! He still says it, even though I have been tutoring under him for about 14 years! Thanku for watching and your comment!
Repotting in pot 2 with a nice little root system and the addition of the moss, superb. Great video, Stacy.
Thanku!!
Nice repotting into the cement pot. Nice little landscape in it.
A lovely little place to go visit for an hour or so!!
Something different instead of the same old standards. Cool! Cool cement pot you found.
Thanku, It is a fun plant! I love those curly leaves! I get questions about them anytime they go on a field trip. Not many know of them. Thanku for watching!
Hi Stacy...nice to see u again. Btw why the leaves are curling? Weather?
Hello again! One of the reasons I love this plant is because of its quirky leaves. So interesting and kinda rare. The leaves are naturally curled like that! What fun!! Thanku for watching and your comment!
I'm glad I found your videos. Your approach and style is very calming and welcoming. Keep'm coming 👍
Thanku! I am honored you think so!! Bonsai is such a meditation for me, a Zen moment! I would like that for everyone! I will keep them coming for as long as possible! Thanku for watching and your comment!
Powder Puffs are cool. Tree plus the flower. What more can anyone want. Yours are very cool and will make someone happy to get them for Christmas.
Thanku! I agree!! Love a plant with a flower! Bonus! Thanku for watching and your continued support! Much appreciated!!
Very cool, I like the first and last one the best 👍
Thanku!! I love them all, I have the hardest time letting them go! They are my babies, lol!
Nice. I wish I could be on your Christmas list! Lucky recipients all.
Thanku! I always enjoy Bonsai gifts too!
Very nice! Excellent gifts! 😊
I agree! Nothing like a Bonsai Gift!
Nice Gardenia, I like the style 👍
Thanku!! I very much enjoyed doing this Gardenia! They are so beautiful! Thanku for watching!
Interesting plants!
Thanku! Almost any tree will grow here! There are some very interesting ones. One of my favorites is the Curly Banyan! Just made a video of some propagated ones, will be coming soon! Hope you find them as interesting as I do!!
Good job! 👍
Tree in its new pot looks cool. I like the way you scaped it. Excellent!!!
Thanku! I very much like it! It's happy too!
Nice gardenia you are developing. Have you had flowers on it? Were they fragrant?
I have!! They are so cute, almost the size of a quarter. They do have a fragrance to them! Just the right amount! Since I am sensitive to smells. Lol!
Looks great! I like the pot!
Thanku! I do too. I love pots! Almost as much as rocks!!
Very nice Stacy!
Why, Thanku! So glad you enjoyed!
Chabo = Hinoki Cypress
Totally correct!! Thanku!
"Petroleum Jelly" = Vaseline
Hey there! Were you wire-brushing pollen cones?
Hello! I am brushing off moss! It grows like crazy here because I have so much rain and humidity. It is a constant!
Nice job Stacy, keep the videos coming.
Thanku so much! I certainly will! Thanku for watching!
Nice tree
Thanku very much!
She looks lovely. Love the doves (I think) cooing at the end.
I am so glad you noticed! There are many birds where I live. I also have chimes. I sometimes hate covering the sound with music, it is so peaceful to work to the sounds of nature!
I just found your channel. I felt your pain with that first big chop. Nice job, and great choices. Where are you located?
Thanku so much ! Those big cuts, yes!! I live in Hawaii, the wet side.
Composition is fabulous!
Thanku! I think she is a beauty!
Beautiful specimen! PS: Love your videos.
Thanku so much for your comment, and watching!!
Enjoyed that! Good work!!
My pleasure! Love that one! Thanku for watching!
Very nice looking tree! 😊 the wiring is fine! As long as it holds the branch
That wiring!! She is a pleasure to work on. Thanku for your comment and watching!
nice tree, just getting started myself
Congratulations!! Welcome! It can quickly become an obsession, watch out! Lol!
I use lipstick. Now they have all colors to match the bark or just be whimsical. A natural wax that women use on their lips. On my roses, it lasts all winter. Plus not expensive. Dollar tree or yard sales. To be bold, you can get the glow in the dark lipstick for a magical effect for an evening view.
OMG!! Thanku for that info! So good to know! And FUN!
Great repot and landscaping.
Very nice of you to say! It was so fun! My favorite part is designing them!
I am liken the lichen.
Lol!
