Secondary Physics Teacher
Добавлен 15 май 2013
Hi,
I am a secondary school physics teacher in the UK introducing 11-18 year old students to the wonders of the universe.
On this channel you will find some lessons, demonstrations, and teaching ideas for physics.
Other science topics may occasionally sneak on here from time to time.
I have a twitter account so feel free to follow me on there for more physics teaching related posts @BonserMr

Momentum - Skateboarder problem - An example of an explosion problem
This is a basic overview of how to tackle a typical explosion problem.
It appears that someone at the AQA doesn't like skateboarders as this is not the first time they've imagined a skateboarder falling off their skateboard. I present two possible ways to tackle the maths for this, pick the one that you feel most comfortable with though if you are not as confident with rearranging then I would recommend the second one.

This is my introduction to momentum including the two main types of momentum problem, collisions and explosions. This was the first video I ever made - hopefully I've got better since.
Eddy Currents Lesson
Просмотров 843 года назад
Basics of eddy currents. To answer the questions you will need to decide whether you need Lenz's Law, Faraday's Law, or both. Credit: Small section of the amazing video: "Copper's Surprising Reaction to Strong Magnets | Force Field Motion Dampening" by NightHawkInLight. I'd recommend watching the whole video which can be viewed here: ruclips.net/video/sENgdSF8ppA/видео.html

Thompson's Ring and Lenz's Law
Просмотров 853 года назад
Here is a basic demonstration of Thompson's Ring to use in class. Regrettably I didn't have any liquid nitrogen on me in my garage at the time so couldn't show you what would happen if you really lowered the resistance of the ring. For that I would recommend watching the MIT video.

Photoelectric Effect on a Gold Leaf Electroscope
Просмотров 5 тыс.3 года назад
Silent Demo. The Van de Graaff holds a negative charge which passes on via contact to the electroscope leaving an excess of electrons. The work function of zinc is such that photoelectric emission doesn't occur until the frequency of the incident radiation is higher than visible light, demonstrated by the uv lamp. When this begins the electrons are liberated from the surface of the metal and th...
Pressure in a column of liquid equation - basic proof

This is a quick exercise to prove the pressure equation for a column of liquid using some other basic known equations. Other proofs are possible.
Calculating Density using a U-Shaped Tube
Просмотров 7 тыс.4 года назад
You can use two immiscible liquids where one has a known density to calculate the density of the second liquid using a U-Shaped tube. This video gives you the basic background how to do this for oil and water.
