Hello and welcome. In this film I share with you one of my favorite adventures in Santa Cruz. This was thought up by my dad, Lenny, years ago. Mile Madness Endurance Run| my 48-hour journey| Rocklin, CA

Hello and welcome. This film documents my 48-hour run in The Mile Madness race. This race is located in Rocklin, California. Everyday Endurance Races took over this race from Thunder Ultras. If you've been following along, I competed in the 24-hour last year under Thunder Ultras and took 2nd; running just shy of 80 miles. I signed up for the 48 hour this year to guarantee a 100-mile buckle. Do ...

This film is about running the San Lorenzo River Trail Run 50k in Santa Cruz, California. Even if you're not a runner these trails are amazing to hike. Things do not go as planned for me. With a 9-hour cut-off I laughed at to being very humbled. I loved this run. The only thing I did not like was the first mile or so of the course. It becomes extremely single track. Secret Beach 100k/50k Ultramarathon. The 100k this year (2024) had 10 runners. I was very nervous signing up for this race. Number 1 there is very little information out there about this race. Number 2, races of this distance tend to have gpx navigation you can download and this race does not. Number 3, this race never has a big turnout, it's always very small. And lastly it appears most people...

    Hey guys! A very detailed review of a cute place. For the price, seems like they have the appropriate amenities. I know Santa Cruz is near and dear to you and your families hearts with much history. For us, we prefer many other coastal towns, for this reason, the "riff-raff" factor. I don't want to sound insensitive, sorry if I am, but I'd be curious to hear how the town has changed, if at all, from back in the days when you and pops were surfing there?

      @SippyCupAdventures Thanks! I kept thinking of you guys on this trip. You've done so many fun places to stay videos. This area for me can have a touch of rif raff in the evenings. Not so much the time of year when we went, more so the on season when the Boardwalk is open. We've always considered this side, the west side, the more touristy spot. I'd like to find a place on the east side and try that out. This place felt very safe. We believe the rif raff we were hearing was coming from the outside bar at Jack's. I haven't been in the water for a minute, so idk how the vibes have been lately. We had a blast, and I'd love to do more of these videos. Cheers!

      @@ChooseAdventureCaliforniaStyle Yeah, hoots and hollers from local bars is normal. I do have a video I am working on now that is SOO dam detailed, it's making me overthink it. 😁You know how that goes. Trying to find the perfect title too, about the Fishermans' Wharf/Pier 39 area, typically where we DON"T stay. Trying to navigate a unique title different than most, but, yet gets a good Tubebuddy score.

    I commend you, Paul. I can't even imagine how bad your feet hurt, and to push through is simply amazing. Is this your first running video where you brought out the drone? I don't recall, but it added the perfect touch to the production. And, please let me know again, (Brianna) the source of that quote at the end? It is beautiful, and it may be one that I'd like to use. 🤔

    • @ChooseAdventureCaliforniaStyle
      @ChooseAdventureCaliforniaStyle 16 дней назад

      @SippyCupAdventures Thank you! The drone footage was courtesy of the race director: Everyday Endurance Races. I never get blisters, so getting so many was a massive shock! Essentially what happened was I wore old sandals on race week. They cut up my feet a bit. I didn't think much of it because I've always had bulletproof feet. The cuts opened and blisters formed. It was very painful. The quote is by Brianna Wiest, from her book 'The Mountain is you'. Your new life is going to cost you your old one. It’s going to cost you your comfort zone and your sense of direction. It’s going to cost you relationships and friends. It’s going to cost you being liked and understood. It doesn’t matter. The people who are meant for you are going to meet you on the other side. You’re going to build a new comfort zone around the things that actually move you forward. Instead of being liked, you’re going to be loved. Instead of being understood, you’re going to be seen. All you’re going to lose is what was built for a person you no longer are.

    I went ti a shelter looking for a cat, I was about 12ft away from the entrance when I saw a worker come out of the shelter with an older dog, shaking like a leaf. I yelled out, what's wrong with him? She said he was just surrendered. I felt so bad. Where I lived you weren't allowed to have dogs, otherwise I would have taken him on the spot.

Was a short pier too where you could have crisscraft boat rides. Also an amphitheater on the beach. The most fun was swimming out a hundred yards to a tethered wooden raft!

      @ppgwhereeverett4412 hey and thanks. Since the making of this I actually changed my mind. You can see in my film about Big News or something like that. Essentially my races are adventurous. I'm running across islands, through forests. Even if you don't Run, it's still on trails people can hike. The channel name 'choose Adventure' is Adventure of all kinds. Not everyone will like every Adventure. This channel is not just about showing hikes but about sharing my personal journey through life; even if that means ultra races. I won't put my running training on here but my races ARE epic adventures in the outdoors. I've had many people reach out to me about being inspired to sign up for their first 5k, 10k, marathon because my videos. Choose Adventure is about inspiring others to get outside, whether that's walking, biking, running, or just exploring. Hope you enjoy my other content. Cheers! And Adventures of all kinds will always keep coming here 🌞

    Wet suit pioneer… dude invented them

    • @ChooseAdventureCaliforniaStyle
      @ChooseAdventureCaliforniaStyle 2 месяца назад

      I always thought so, too, but he did not. Hugh Bradner - a UC Berkeley physics professor and a Manhattan Project scientist - began working on a new material for the U.S. Navy’s Frogmen team in 1951, according to the Diver’s Institute of Technology. Bradner's wetsuit wasn't perfect, though. It tore easily, the seems let in water... Jack O’Neill took that wetsuit and made massive improvements. Jack O'Neill did not invent the wetsuit, but he did create the modern-day wetsuits we have today, out of the original design by Bradner. Fun fact 🤙

    • @ChooseAdventureCaliforniaStyle
      @ChooseAdventureCaliforniaStyle 2 месяца назад

      The Triple Crown is awesome. Catalina Island is my favorite place to run. Yes, we normally show up the day or 2 before the race and stay a day after. Keep in mind Catalina Island Jacks up their hotel prices BIG time during these races. A hotel that would normally be $80 a night could be $300 or $400 a night. Book early! I'm already booked for the Avalon 50 miler in 2025. I got a hotel for about $270, and that's a steal during these races. Plus, factor in the boat ride round trip. It's a pricy endeavor but really worth the experience. There is camping on the island which is much cheaper. I've never done it, but I've had friends do it and say it's a good time. I made a film on the channel, like, 4 days in Catalina. It highlights things to do on the island and 2 places we stayed. If you have any more questions, ask away. The Triple Crown is a very memorable experience, and I highly recommend it. Cheers!

If it were a race, then chaos would have ensued at the creek, I imagine 😆 I enjoyed how you came across when updating your "goal"! "Ok, well, now I am shooting for 7 hours. That's okay....." Snarky, yet, "motivational" 😆🥤

      @SippyCupAdventures I didn't get it on film, but there was a touch of chaos at the river 🤣. A handful of folks were crossing next to us, out of frustration of having to wait. The problem is it was overhead deep there, so they all got drenched 🤣. I had zero clue about all the slow downs I'd encounter. Hopefully, my video can be valuable for those looking to run the race. I really loved this run. The single track was legit gnarly though, I did not like that section. I tried to run it, tripped, and almost fell down the hill. It was a good mile of about 6 inches to walk and not fall down this hill. Admittedly, I saw people sprint this section. This was definitely more of an adventure than a race for me. On to the next 🍻

      @@ChooseAdventureCaliforniaStyle Yeah, not sure what race organizers are supposed to do. They love promoting their location, certainly, and the chance to just run, yet, they can't really change the footprint of these trails without city/county approval and all the red tape that goes with that.

      @SippyCupAdventures I know. Personally I think they should stagger the start time. There was nearly 500 people starting at once. There was only 45 people in my race. If they would start each individual race 30 minutes apart There would be very little slow downs. I felt bad for the people turning around at the water only station. They not only got stuck in the beginning but had to now take on the back of the pack on their way back. Awesome event but they definitely could fix a few things. And the aid station at Henry Cowell's, why don't they move the aid station by the bathrooms and make that part of the course? That walk was a little ridiculous.

      @@ChooseAdventureCaliforniaStyle As I have mentioned before, I am an event planner, by trade and ALL of these little nuances drive me nuts! This is why you do these events, or, one reason why, in entering these, to see how organized they are, or not so you have a better idea if you're going to do them again. Of course, location has a lot to do with it. If you and your family have a good time, separate from the event, then a few miscues during the race are acceptable.

      @SippyCupAdventures agreed. I will admit that after my first ultra (24 hours), I figured all races were put on with such high attention to detail and care. Now that I've done 6 ultras, I can say that most races seem thrown together. I don't know if it's a money issue or permits or laziness... the volunteers are always amazing, helpful, and really add to the enjoyment of the adventure. A lot of the issues in these events, to me, seem like easy fixes, but they don't get fixed. So far, my biggest complaint about these races is: #1 The aid station food sucks! I'm running for over 6 hours in the mountains, and you're feeding me snacks. How about real food. #2 bathrooms. For example, this race had 4 Porta pottys at the start. 500 people and only 4 toilets. Then the next toilet was 7 miles away. When you're constantly eating and drinking, you gotta go often. So my big things to fix in all these ultras are: better food, more porta pottys, put aid stations close to the bathroom, and write a brutally honest description of the course. Like, expect to be delayed 30 minutes in the beginning, at the river... with all that being said, I loved this run, I love these events. I'm sure it's a ton of work to put these on. There's definitely room for improvement. Maybe with ultras becoming more popular, we'll see some improvements.

    Can't tell you how much I enjoyed this. Running those trails and playing in the river was a staple of my youth. Been a long time since I've been on them, but could vividely remember neary every part as you shared your journey. Nice job on the run. When things open up again, if you haven't run Skyline to Sea yet (though sure you have) I'd highly recommend it.

      I also grew up playing in these mountains as well. I remember they did this race and prior to being a runner, I thought it sounded so cool. Back then I said I'd never be able to run that far in the mountains. This was so much fun for me, despite being so close to dnf'ing 🫣. I'm glad you enjoyed following me along and seeing the trails, river... this was on a weekend and I'll say maybe the busiest I've ever seen the river! The whole stretch of it had people.

    Great video!! Comparing is the thief of joy. I can’t believe all the things that went against you with delays, extra miles up hill and you finished positive. Great job.

      Thanks, Jeff! I was very unaware of all the slow downs. I was so impressed and inspired by those 50k runners in this race. Despite the hold ups, they ran a great race! They must've been running 6 minute miles when they could. I ran everything runnable, I gotta work on my speed 🤣. In the film, when I talk about not being the fastest... that was a pep talk I was giving myself. I felt like I wasn't good enough to be out there. I knew a positive attitude would get me to that finish. I reminded myself to have fun, no matter what happened. And I did, I had a ton of fun. I grew as a person on this one. Something these ultras gift us; to know more about ourselves and how to be better. The journey continues. Hope your training is going well. On to the next adventure 👊💥

    That was great! Loved the music and the trail looks amazing! Glad you finished and made up the time lost while getting lost and waiting in line 🤣

      @charliewollertz Dude! There are so many spots I lost time at. I still can't believe how far away the bathrooms were 🤯. When I realized I got lost, I thought I wouldn't make the cut off. I had to run faster more than planned to make up time. The 50k field was fast runners! I found out if I was in the 30k I would've podiumed my age group. Goes to show how fast those 50k runners were and how tough the course is. Very impressive athletes.
