Beauchief Wreck Divers

Trying to name unknown wrecks around Beachy Head and film as many as we can when weather and visibility allows before they disappear forever.

In out In out, what's it all about! Wessex archaeology's ROV was having a bad day trying to get some images of the possible wrecksite of HMS Saltash from Kurts Yellowfin, charter boat out of Brighton marina. Jamie was along for the ride and giving words of encouragement! We ended up diving it later and finding a few bits and pieces we hadn't seen before. Copyright of Beauchief Wreck Divers, cop...

marvellous
Nice and fascinating watch as always guys. Was that second one those set of numbers I gave earlier on in the year by chance? It would be great to know what is and if not il run a camera over it soon and see.
Hi Ben.. no afraid not. Not done much at all this year as Jamie had to have a heart op over the winter, so lucky he recovered enough in time for us to do anything. Not to mention the weather and viz has been sh1te!! It's still on the to do list but had to keep things a bit shallow this year or my boat bitch would have gone pop! Hope to get in early next year and make up for this year.
Your B17 looks like there is more to them then ours but we still have props and engines in place. Great video boys
Cheers JP...have you filmed yours? Anything look familiar?
@@beauchiefwreckdivers8855 The tyres itself on yours looks much wider than the B17 here but it's hard to tell on your vid. I think the B17 and B24 was the same tyres. The tanks look similar, the lattice cross wing sections look identical.
@@beauchiefwreckdivers8855 I have a few video of the B17 Flying Fortress called the Piccadilly Commando. We have one called the Speedball which is yet to be found and another in 60m. All the fuel lines and cooling lines have a thumb turn style jubilee clip with the company and location it was made stamped on it which normally are well preserved and could be used for Id. We already knew her story and it was definitely a B17. The clip I seen had Wittek MFG Co. Chicago USA PAT. 22783?3 and FB - 8 stamped. Did a little research and found out exactly where it was from too. Maybe look for any bits with stamps on ?
I have a few videos on the Piccadilly Commando B17. last one was July 2023 I think. Should be at least 4 or 5 vids available to watch.
I'll check out your videos.. When we pulled the shot on the first wreck, it actually dragged up what looked like rubber fuel pipe. On the end was the thumb turn jubilee clip you mentioned. Then, by massive coincidence, while watching, 'Digging for Britain', I think it was, that evening ,they were digging up a plane and pulled out the same jubilee clip!!. With the information on it! Typically the one we had didn't have anything on it, we did check. I don't think it would be too difficult to identify both aircraft, given what's down there, but we got in contact with Historic England and they have passed it onto the Americans. Whether anything comes of it, we shall wait and see...
Another corker 👌
I’m Portuguese and I Love this videos mate… the history’s are amazing. Sow glad to be available to understand perfect English. 🇬🇧🫡
Growing up I was always told and understood it from locals who used to dive it and from the shore that there was a Dozen of them Cannons there in that area pretty much on top of each other? Was quite well known locally. Great video chaps. Where will the cannon end up now?!
Thanks. There are 2 or 3 really heavily concreted iron ones, piled on top of each other, which are well known. I've not seen any others but there are bound to be more covered by sand although probably a lot later than 16th Century! If the Receiver of Wreck ever sort the paperwork we'll try and get them into a museum, only been 3.5 years so far!!!!
Well researched and fascinating to watch. Thanks for sharing.
Just lovely.
There were two ships called the City of Brisbane owned by the Ellerman line , this one and the other one sunk in 1940 on Long sand in the Thames estuary after being bombed (hence two photos ) it is listed on wrecksites.
The position of the 1940 ship is 51'32'30 N 01'23'30 E
The Chief Officer of the Robert Ingham, William Miller, was my Great Grandfather. He's buried in Southampton Old Cemetery. His 17 year old son (William John) identified the body and gave evidence at the inquest held in Southampton. In the Admiralty Court case that followed the crew sought compensation from the owners of the Kronprinz Wilhelm for the loss of their possessions and the ship owners for the loss of their ship. There was no claim regarding either of the two men that died. The Admiralty Court found against the Kronprinz Wilhelm's owners. This was confirmed by the Court of Appeal in 1903. I have photographs of the court papers & other stuff if you're interested.
Hi Mike. Thanks for getting in touch. It's always interesting to hear from people who have a connection with the wrecks we dive. I'd like to see anything else you have for sure, email is gsxr1127@live.co.uk ,look forward to it👍
Great video guys. Would love to come with you one day if you take guests on board
Monsignor le Plundereur 😂😂 Jamie should do all future videos like that. 😂😂
Lovely video
How did you track down the Frenchman ?
Found him whilst looking for your lost marbles
Thanks for doing this . Charles Hide still has family in Eastbourne. He is buried with an anchor headstone in Ocklynge cemetery
Thankyou. Ted Hide has written an excellent book 'The Fishermen of Eastbourne', of which he has kindly sent me a copy. Not being local to Eastbourne, we weren't aware of the families still in Eastbourne connected with the rescue and, if we had been aware of Teds book, we would have done a far better job of it for sure! But a heroic effort and, what a character Charles Bones Hide was!
Great video lads
Very funny 🤣👍
Great video guys as usual! Is this marked as the Pritchard on navionics or wrecksite do you know? I need to put a bait down for those eels!
Nice one, thanks. beauchiefdivers@gmx.co.uk send me a mail and I'll let you know where they're hiding! Elizabeth Pritchard is not marked on the charts.
@@beauchiefwreckdivers8855 legend will get on that tomorrow mate thank you! Will be kept in confidence of course! Chat tomorrow matey 👌🏻
Email sent, it did say couldn’t send at first and not sure if it’s gone through so let me know….
@@theamputeeangler Yarrrr got it..

HaHa yeah, that should've been the thumbnail
I was only just reading about this wreck as it was below an article of a shipwreck I was researching in the Aberdeen Press and Journal - Wednesday 02 May 1906, I was researching the Courier shipwreck, crazy coincidence.
It's incredible quite how many ships were wrecked, collided, run aground or went missing without trace. I can't help but read some of the other stories in the papers as well and the good old days don't look quite so good, downright dangerous most of the time!! Looking forward to the Courier film, just been reading about it, poor old Mr Thorburn..
Thanks for Sharing Boys 👍
Thanks JP🙂
yarrrrrr
Nice measuring guys! 😉
Brilliant, well done for finding and now confirming it’s the Saltash. Not many examples of sloops, so a significant discovery. 👍
Thanks Dan. Reported it to someone in the MOD, they seem interested. Maybe they'll get you to investigate😉 I'll let you know if they come back with anything👍
Great stuff, really interesting wreck. The copper bands are probably the barrel hoops for the gun powder barrels. If HMS the hoops will have a broad arrow stamped on it. We found lots on Invincible 1758.
Thanks. We shall check it out. Plan was to do some photogrammetry over the weekend but May rots in the water so viz was rubbish, definitely on the "to do" list tho.👍
@@beauchiefwreckdivers8855 the plankton does scupper the viz. Hope it comes and goes quick and look forward to your next vid on the site.
Love your clips, I dive from Eastbourne regularly so know some of your sites but I would love join you as a guest one day, is there a better way to contact you?
Hi Becky , BeauchiefDivers@gmx.co.uk . Easter time we will be getting things back together and you are more than welcome.
Love these, keep it up! Cx
Best video so far... 👍
