I Try to Out Cheese the Wargame AI
In this Wargame: Red Dragon campaign gameplay video, I'm in a bad position. Thus, the only way for me to win is by employing the cheesiest of cheese tactics.
Let me explain. The Wargame AI always guns directly for your command vehicles. By exploiting this, I can trick the AI into heading in a certain direction and then I can try to get my tanks to their base sector.
I haven't deliberately tried to use cheese tactics before. However, I am completely outmatched by the Soviet tanks, which consist of T-72s and T-80s. My tanks, T-34s and Chonma-Hos, are not nearly as good.
In the end, I'm unsuccessful, but I manage to reduce the Soviets' overall tank strength.

    Oooh I remember this one ! I feel you and laughed hard at the descent into madness, been there bro', took me entire afternoons hahaha ! And it only get worst after Kravtsovka. They're gonna bring units from the 80's for some reason... The key to me is to rush the AI with as much armoured units as you can. Embrace the Chinese General in you, your units are expendable. No point using the North Koreans at the start, keep them to invade the harbour map just after. It's a great game but the AI is unfortunately blatantly cheating : it always has extra points to spend at the start of the game, giving it a superior number of units ramming you straight up. Bought Warno recently, and it feels much better. At least the AI starts with the same number of points as you, and combine arms a little bit too. Hope you managed to finish the campaign since last month, otherwise good luck for the next try !

      Thanks for the advice! I'm looking forward to trying out WARNO. I think after I finish recording this campaign, I'm going to hop over to WARNO. Unfortunately, I haven't made too much progress in the campaign. Since I'm recording each battle and making videos out of them, it makes it a slow process to get through it. Despite what it's rated. Bear vs. Dragon is one of the hardest campaigns. No way to win trying to play the game as intended. Nothing you get as China compares to 60+ T-72s. You have to master the cheesiest tactics there are and essentially have a full understanding of how the AI works so that you can direct its movements and even then it may still take dozens of retries.

      The problem is the Campaign AI and the skirmish AI are the same beast, they just bum rush one approach with the best tank units they can afford. They dont really combine arms until the tank pool gets low. If the campaign AI was scripted, then you'd be able to decode the enemy strategy and treat the match like a puzzle, rather than relying on cheese. But you couple the nature of the AI with the fact that China is one of the worst factions in the game, and your stuck with this.

      Actually this campain is eazy with only one hard battle when you must force retreat sov division which have t80 and which you have nothing to destroy. Exept this battle all you need to do is spawn as much armored units as u can and force march->A-click to enemy point. In 99% cases enemy have nothing to put against you and all you need to do is find and destroy enemy CV. Аfter the victory, all you need is to finish off the retreating with helicopter division, which is given to you in the middle of the company, because if you win a battle in a province in which there is an enemy division that cannot retreat, it is destroyed in its entirety

Basically you go through each ship, offline the anti-ship missiles, then bring them all into range, trying to bait out ASMs from people for a while. Then when you are in range of the sovs you press H twice to turn them on and right click on the sov.

    Hi good video, some advice and my Landjut deck code and some explanations about units i use in that deck. 1) Buy more ground units when you see enemy not more planes. All new players do a panic buy of planes and get overwhelmed on ground. 2) Always upvet your AA and try to switch of and on radar on them in case enemy have sead planes. 3)At start of match split map in half in your mind, so you know that everything in your side of map is your territory and enemy got nothing to do there. Also think which part of enemy map you want for yourself and how you gonna get it and then attack it. 4)Some base defense would be nice since people like to fly helicopters around the map and then into your base to kill artillery or command units. 5)Try some 10 vs 10 tacticals, but beware of slow income rate there. 6) At start watch out for enemy arty or plane bombing runs to obliterate your opener. Starting with 1 asf plane would be recommended. 7) Try to push for contact. This is my Landjut deck code for team games use it or get some ideas for your own deck. @IG8BwJkkaH84ZCvPi2ZHwRnmxAGphm4JpxUc3PtcBYcRIBjAYoTDo7pKmkftGyR+WuFHydMR8oeqHogtJiKEam3oyCIIiKA= 1. Only 1 card of command units, because in teamgames you dont need so many cvs. 2fobs just in case 1 is not enough. 2. Dont use jager infantry, they are not cost effective, better use reservist spam or dragoners. 3. Ottomatics, cant have to many of them. 4. Tube arty or mlrs, mlrs is more like area effect and tube arty is to take out enemy strongpoints. Use your own preference. 5. I like some sneaky stuff thats why Tiger recon helo, fuchs and recon inf in helicopter and some cheap recon for frontlines. 6. No bombers for landjut, only danish cluster planes to take out enemy tanks. 7. 1 cheap plane card to deal with enemy helicopters and only 1 card of asf since i have 3 cards of aa in my support tab. Only card of command is depend on map if you play on smaller map 1 cv and you play 2v2 it might be fine. however team game is better to have 2 cv card. one is infantry cv for stealth and one is tank cv for contest the hot zone if needed. and even one cv card you want to be more than 3 and strong enough. and dont take jeep cv if you can especially team game. better upvet elite , it your best anti infantry tool against mech spec. never take bsg , only good stealth and too slow.

    Something that this game gets wrong in my opinion on default settings is UI readability. I see that you switched to NATO symbols and while that is a step in the right direction I would also recommend making the unit labels smaller and also completely disabling unit merging. It's much more important to know exactly what you are going up against regardless of zoom instead of seeing a line of symbols. This is due to the simple fact that seeing a line of 4 infantry labels without the context of the unit name doesn't tell you if they are shock squads coming to murder you or just some pathetic reservists marching to their death. Look at 17:20 as an example of why playing with label merging is just bad... Some much info and yet none of it is usable...

    • @RageQuitWithTravis

      That's a great point. I agree that the UI readability is not great. My understanding is that WARNO does a better job with UI, although I have not played it, so I can't be sure. I wish I had switched to the NATO symbols earlier, although even that is only beneficial if you know the NATO symbols, which not everyone does. I'll definitely go in and change the size of the unit labels and disable unit merging, as those are good points. There have been many times where I'm overwhelmed with the label merging. Thanks for the comment!

    Those MiG-29Ks pack a punch! If all your A-5s launch at the same time, the missiles will arrive at the same time, giving less time for enemy CIWS to shoot down each successive missile. You can make that happen by launching your planes on a line 90 degrees to the target, then giving them the attack order after they're all in the air.

    hello, i got a recommendation of this video from unpredictable YT algorythms. what I see from your channel, you mainly play wargame campaign, which is a very different beast from wargame MP. I played MP for several hundred hours in past few years (approaching 1000 hours soon). it is very interesting to see how you try your first MP games. sorry that you got a helicopter rush as one of your first game, but i hope it wont happen to often with you :) I want to give couple advices how to improve your MP experience. some of my comments will be somewhat similar to other people's comments. 1) explore the armory and create decks. my advice is to stick to coalitions of 2-3 countries. coalitions are better than single nation decks (except USSR, USA, Israel and SA) because you get better variety and weapons of 1 nation can cover missing units in the other or have a straight forward improvement. i would advise to try first Eurocorp (W. Germany + France) for Bluefor and Warsaw Pact (E. Germany + Poland + Czhecoslovakia) coalitions for trial decks. to be honest, deck building is a very complex topic to discuss, it is not even feasible for one video. just try and create :) 2) learn which maps are good for you and just avoid bad maps at all when you are choosing the lobby (not applicable to ranked, obviously). for example, IMHO, gun boat diplomacy sucks because the map is split by half by a river and in order to push, players have to cross few choke points (bridges), which is a kill zone. so games on this map are very frustrating and can lead to stalemates, if players on both sides are equally skilled. 3) find someone to play with, preferably to make a team of 3-4 people. it's way funnier, you can also exchange experiences and decks with your pals. also better coordination on battlefield, for example coordinated air strikes. 4) and please dont play with default decks given by the game, they are horrible and wont give you any advantage, especiallly battle groups hope to see more MP related videos (or deck building), good luck!

      Hey boss, thanks for the detailed comment. Despite the reputation that WG:RD has for a toxic community, I've received lots of comments like yours where people just want to help me out, so I really appreciate it. While I was traveling for the holidays, I took some time to watch WG multiplayer videos by Stealth17 and Razzman. I also read the unspec deckbuilding guide and realized that I should start with coalitions like you were saying. Therefore, I built an Eastern Block deck and a Landjut deck. However, I'd be interested in trying out Eurocorp and Warsaw Pact like you recommend. I appreciate the other suggestions and I'm looking forward to making another multiplayer video very soon.

    Whats the best way to get into multiplayer? I've beaten 2nd korean war so many times now I was thinking of giving multi a try but taking the time to read the global chat one day made me scared to even try lol.

      I think the best way is to 1) turn off chat because it seems to be insane and 2) start off with some large team games (3v3, 4v4, even 10v10). There are also lobbies for noobs. Good luck!

    I will like and subscribe, if you're not familiar with the units i think deck creation or exploration video might be cool, and if you ever explore the other titles of eugen, that would be cool too.

      Thanks! I definitely plan on playing WARNO at some point. Probably once they release the single player campaign but perhaps before then. And thanks for the idea about a deck creation video. I think that would be a great future video once I’ve got some more experience building decks.

    Hey man, great vid, have you heard of Warno? It's basically this game but with updated UI, new features, better handling (IMO), and graphics. It's good fun and honestly in my experience the multiplayer for whatever reason seems easier to get into.

      Thanks! So I have heard of WARNO and I will probably try it out at some point. I’m looking forward to the campaign mode coming out, since that is what drew me to WG:RD in the first place. Maybe after I do my first 100 multiplayer matches series for WG:RD I’ll do a comparison with WARNO.

    Cool video I enjoyed it, even if it was a little painful to watch hahaha. It's a very difficult game in multiplayer. I can give you some advice if you want, a crash course even. Unless you want to go in blind. Which I would not recommend.

      Glad you enjoyed the video and I appreciate the offer. I’ve got a buddy who has been offering to show me the ropes for a while, so I’m going to finally take him up on that. In the meantime I’ve been reading some guides on Steam and also watching Stealth17’s multiplayer matches on RUclips and I’m already noticing things I can improve.

    War Game is a great game. But the Campaigns are stupid hard for someone who just bought the game and doesn't yet understand the details of each unit.

    • @RageQuitWithTravis
      @RageQuitWithTravis 8 месяцев назад

      For sure, it's taken me a while to figure out how to best use each unit. And if you've seen any of my campaign playthrough videos, I'm still learning. When I first started playing through my campaign, I couldn't figure out why my infantry units were getting destroyed so fast until I realized I hadn't been dismounting them.

    The easiest way I found to fight off the constant attacks in the south the hold the majority of my forces in Daegu and Busan, and fallback from Yeongdeok and Uichang. Hold Daegu, and let them attack Busan from Uichang and Yeongdeok, and they will usually wait a turn before they actual engage in battle so they can get their armored units in the fight... but before that, take your forces from Daegu and retake Yeongdeok and Uichang (cutting off the NK in Busan). You may even be able to move your heliborne forces from those recaptured provinces into Busan to prevent the NK from having a spawn objective when you launch the battle in Busan yourself... that way they will desperately try to take a spawn objective from you so that they can call in their air forces and spawn new stuff, but if you can hold off their attack then they will quickly throw the only units they have in an attempt to take it and suffer a major loss, losing every ground unit in Busan. That way the only fighting you will need to really worry about it whatever they have left pestering Daegu, but you can easily move all your forces into Daegu at this points and safe up your points to buy as many American units once they arrive.

      Once I ended up falling back to Busan because of my defeats in Yeongdeok, I realized that it was easier to defend the two mountain passes that the enemy has to attack through since they are coming from Yeongdoek than it is to try to defend in Yeongdeok itself. Your strategy definitely would have made the playthrough easier for me. I let my battle groups be too static in the defense and I should be more comfortable with moving them around to put even greater pressure on the enemy.

    be consistent in a singular map thats my suggestion...

  • @kcnmsepognln
    @kcnmsepognln 9 месяцев назад

    Tough break! Recon on the mountain was very nice. If the unit label is "pulsing", it means the unit isn't spotted by the enemy. Your CV's unit label was steady/constant, so it was being spotted and got "retired". It's a major weakness of helo CV that they are both fragile and can't be placed in cover. Having said that, I would play this map with air only (maybe ground recon) and helo CV. It's a wide-open map with good sight lines and you're facing armour with no dedicated AA. Also the enemy air is ground attack focused, but if you have no ground units... Peace Rhine's will deal with the heavier tanks and helos the light ones; rocket pod planes are also effective against lighter units and rearm/refuel very quickly, as well as being cheap. Napalm can be used to block sight lines and routes, but it's mainly anti-infantry and you're not facing any. Knowing that the AI knows where your CV is (and simply makes a bee-line for it) you can "kite" them around the map with your helo CV, moving to the left-hand zone if necessary.

      Thanks Jim, I appreciate the comment and the advice. As I've gone through the playthrough, I've realized the problems with the helo CV, but didn't think about the advantages you point out.

    HI, this video brings back memories when i started playing wargame. On this map i tried to shoot down enemy transports with prowler and was wondering why it does not shoot them, since it have ground ground attack rocket. As advice you should use recon to spot enemies, also switch off their weapons so that they don't give up their position. Keep tanks on the edge of towns to provide support fire and deny enemy entering in it. If you put them in town they might get sideshoot . The wargames real salt is in multiplayer, just remember disable the Warchat with red button on bottom right corner. GL HF😊

      I appreciate the advice. I always forget to switch off the weapons for recon, so I'll try to remember that. I haven't yet played multiplayer, but I have heard that it is a good idea to disable Warchat. Thanks again and let me know if there are any other videos you'd like me to make.
