    Good point, size and details (cooktime) matter! There are also different ways to get carbohydrates cooked: rolling boil and than let it sit for 15-30 minutes, you trade time for burn material (wood, gas, etc.). A pot cozy helps to retain heat while having your pasta, rice, etc. rest to soak up the water and get soft - without adding heat. I'm sure you can find exact descriptions in ultralight hiker forums - beware of the "cold soaking" thing ;-)

    • @bluefoothomestead9358
      @bluefoothomestead9358 10 дней назад

      @jomei6472 yes that is true. As an ex-chef and pasta snob, I'm going to have to get as close as possible. I would assume cold soaking would create bacteria issues. I haven't looked into that. Another tip is to cook pasta in a skillet. More surface area heats it faster. It cuts time down a lot. Cheap aluminum cookware (not steal) also speeds up cook time.

    • @HideawayHomestead2
      @HideawayHomestead2 10 дней назад

      Retaining heat is a good reminder. I have heard of people boiling a large pot of water and then keeping it in a thermos kind of vessel to use throughout the day. This will save on fuel and also time to get a fire going.

I voted democrat for several elections. They have gone too far and will just say and do whatever they have to in order to get elected. Some are even scared Trump will allow certain things to come to light. Biden was caught on audio literally saying that. If you are voting democrats, please turn off CNN/MSNBC/ABC for a week. Good advice. I used to consider myself liberal. I believed in low deficit, not continuing to cut down our rain forest in the world. (Like using plastic bags and not chopping trees) helping children in Africa, and keeping out oceans clean. That's not what the party is about anymore. As I still stand for that, it does not make me a liberal.

    I don't think so. This was about optics. They looked like nasty high school student council mean girls and he was being more reserved. Trump wasn't trying to win the debate, per se, but using it as a tool to get to the undecideds and it worked. As a side benefit ABC news is disgraced and they demonstrated their corruption. Harris got no bounce, but Trump did. Also harris and ABC even got negative reactions from other liberal press, like CNN and CNBC.

    Well, you are right we don’t really have many choices. This year. But I can pretty well. Tell you if we don’t start changing things pretty quick we’re going to be communist or maybe worse who knows I think we’re pretty well down to anyone that’s running against the Democratic Party will be in the press like shit and the only ones that are a great or the Democrats in the press we don’t hear the right things are pressed. Doesn’t even talk about the real problems out there anymore. Bringing in 12 million illegal aliens is not helping this country. That’s it to me. I thought when Trump was talking about the border wall he was crazy. I guess I’m the one that was crazy because I can’t believe how people are coming in this country and it’s going to be so out of control by the time it gets stopped if our vice president becomes president and we’re not see the countries that we used to know but that’s just my opinion and don’t get me wrong. Trump has his problems too. What choice do you have?

    • @bluefoothomestead9358
      @bluefoothomestead9358 14 дней назад

      This is a deep rabbit hole to go down. I think you are correct about communism in the democratic party. I don't think it is as much their choice, as it is Chinas control over our system. Their documented plan is to get us used to it before they take global rule. They fully plan on having global ruling. I think Trump wants to put a wrench into this, which sounds good from our side. People like that he disrupts the system, but it's a dangerous game to play with the CCP. Is it the American way? yes. Is it a way to save out country? yes. Can it cost millions of American lives and ultimately lose a war? Yes. I think the controlling democratic party knows some things that trump does not in regards to China. They are conected to china more so and they are abnormally dedicated to keep him out. Why? It's not normal. As I don't agree with everything he stands for, I really like the Libitarian candidate, Oliver. I lean Lib anyways, and maybe it's time to stand with what I believe. Of coarse it a good thing to do, but there is weight to voting against what you don't believe.

  • @GrandmaSandy

    Well, I voted Trump the first time voted for Trump the second time and I’m voting for Trump the third time. Trump is irritating as sin, but this is the big butt. I think we’re heading into socialism or communism. I don’t know we’re turning into a one country. I live California and if you want to see what one party looks like look at California. It’s so damn scary here. It’s ridiculous. They’re passing laws that I didn’t even know they were trying to pass until they’re laws. It’s terrifying. I’m hoping that people in California are going to wake up. I hope you’re voting for your city and your local government as well. That’s where the most important things are happening. i’m telling you right now if people don’t start waking up and it doesn’t matter if you’re a Democrat or Republican, you need to get rid of the crazy Democrats that are trying to run this country and it starts at the city and state level. I’m not telling you not to vote for Democrat. I’m telling you to find more of the road Democrats that we used to have in this country and I do love the Kennedys. I don’t know what’s wrong with them. They are they need to wake up to and start becoming more of the middle of the road and I’m glad that Kennedy join Trump if it’s only to bring people attention that Kennedy is a beautiful name in the political ring but you gotta get rid of the crazy Democrats that are trying to run. Our families lives getting into our business every inch of the way we have right that we’re taking away inch by inch every day and they hate Trump so bad that 90% of the news people lie manipulate. They are trying to put the whole Trump family in jail and get them out of the way do you ever ask why? But how did this big heart get to be so popular because he’s so right and the Democrats are so wrong. Don’t get me wrong. There’s a lot of Republicans are the same way. We do something about that border number one number two. We need to start getting ourselves prepared and start producing in this country once again. We’re heading right into World War III and it’s not gonna be like World War III people better wake up

    • @bluefoothomestead9358
      @bluefoothomestead9358 29 дней назад

      @GrandmaSandy yeah I hope people wake up too. We are so glazed over from the media. One thing I like about trump is calling out media. It only got worse in his term, though. Luckily, I lived in California in the Regan years. It was nice then. I am a little concerned if people wake up and I think many will and I see both sides waking up. When that happens, our society will become a dangerous place. It sounds like you are getting prepared, that's good.

So long story short, I was a benchmade guy for years. One day, or should I say 'once upon a time', my son bought home a spyderco. I had always hated the way they looked, I mean, man, I just detested them. Anyways, so I had a hold of this thing my son bought home (spyderco manix) and F@#K me if I didn't end up loving the way it felt and operated. Seemingly overnight I then grew this appreciation for them and the shape and now think they are one of the best looking knives I own...... Get all of the old fart politicians out of government. In fact dis mantle the whole government. Not many people are doing anything because they live in fear and think the government will take care of them. Too many sheep.

    65+ miles from home. I live in the desert, southwest. I calculate approx 24 hours plus rest time so 36 to 48 hours. Minimalism would be a requirement. Water will constitute more than half the weight i will carry.

      Yes, I've done my share of hiking in AZ. Never that far but 8 months out of the year, water is important. I've done 7 miles without water but in shaded trees. Camelback style packs are the way I went.lots of places to put stuff too.

    I can understand your argument for less than maybe 5-7 miles. At 25° outside, even walking that distance could be extremely dangerous. Take away all the SHTF stuff and just hypothetically say I needed to walk home from work. I live 54 miles away from work and will need supplies for my walk home. Even if the environment is safe and non life threatening, I still need water, food, clothing, and shelter (assuming hypothetically that nobody would help me during that time).

      I agree. My thought is to get back asap. Get a vehicle, help from someone with transportation, or my plan for search and rescue. Trying to make it for weeks would not work. For that planning to survive for weeks (how most BoBs are built) will not be necessary. Just my plan. It doesn't fit everyone.

    18 gauge needle isn't huge. 10-14 are considered large bore. Believe it or not, the smaller ones hurt more than the larger ones. Former EMT-P, started my fair share of large bore IVs.

    I had 4 heart ablations from 2019-2021 to fix my heart from afib and flutter it saved my life.. I like you live with pain mine is from many shoulder surgeries on both shoulders. I had a missed diagnosed bone infection that ate my joint. I go once a month to a pain clinic for meds, but they don’t work anymore and I only sleep for 30min at a time because of pain in both shoulders. Since the war on pain meds the Dr is afraid to up my meds because he is afraid of going to jail and loosing his medical license. I feel for all the people suffering daily with debilitating pains. I wish you the best and we all most Keep on keeping on ✊

    About 10 miles from home on a normal day. Water, snack, weather appropriate clothing, torch, high viz item so I don’t get killed on narrow lanes. I’ll have my usual EDC, phone, small power bank, cable. Basic first aid, wallet. Etc. travel light and fast. UK, bugging out is not an option, if I had to leave my home permanently, I’d plan on going by car, take my camping gear, at least as far as I could.

    I totally get your minimalist approach which I believe is more focused on the urban to suburban get home situation. In this case the one thing I recommend you carry is whatever meds you need to take on a daily basis. If you have high blood pressure, diabetes, asthma, serious allergies, or any chronic illness or condition, carry at least 2 days worth of meds. This is way more important than any other prepping gear. What use is a knife, gun, blanket, cordage, freeze-dried food etc when you're near passing out from low blood suger or high blood pressure, half suffocating from asthma/allergies or doubled over in pain from your herniated disk or that highschool football knee injury? And taking the "Chems" approach to prepping further, keeping some on you can not only be a great morale booster but can also be a source of barter or ice breaker. Where I'm from, a lot of people still smoke heavily so I keep a pack or 2 of cigarettes in my car. You won't believe how quickly a stranger will lower his guard and reply kindly to your questions if you offer them a smoke first. Now imagine a heavy smoker who'd been denied tobacco for days. He'd be willing to hand over a dozen bullets or other supplies just for a fresh pack of cigs. And cigarettes can keep a flame going as long as you puff, good for lighting fires. The same with alcohol and sugar. When times are the darkest, you can always count on a hip flask of whiskey and a handful of hard candies. They will give you the mental and physical boost to get you thru that long day and possibly night of trudging home.

    • @bluefoothomestead9358
      @bluefoothomestead9358 4 месяца назад

      You have some good points Alot of people smoke in Missouri. Most I know buy pack by pack. They will run out quick and is a great barter tool and/or things you mentioned.
