Are these the best shoes out on the market? I think they could be one of the best. I’m not sponsored by Specialized, so I bought these shoes when they came out. www.specialized.com/us/en/s-works-recon-shoe/p/220919?color=362317-220919

The bike industry is like the hot potato game. Nobody wants to be the one caught holding the potato. The industry is set up the way it is because bike manufacturers want turn over as soon as possible to show profit for their shareholders. If they changed the industry to having distribution centers all over they would be the ones holding the bikes that aren’t selling. They would rather it be the small guy who gets stuck with last year’s bike while the big players release the hot new model that everyone wants. This would make sense if the costs that shops are paying for these fully built bikes was substantially less than what they retail for but from what I understand it is not. So the big guys are making big profit by selling the retailers their products (no take backs). Making retailers place huge orders in order to get their business. And then coming out with a new model months later making what you have in stock a less desirable item and on top of that many of the big brands also sell direct to consumers at the same time. Your idea would be great for the small retailers but I don’t see the big players changing the rules of the game to help the little guy out. With all that said I also see it as the small retailers fault for agreeing to place these huge orders and overpaying most likely for the bikes they have in stock. The industry is moving to direct to consumer. Shops need to refuse to work with these brands if they want to see a change that benefits them. Good vid, came across a comment of yours on another video then clicked on your profile.
@@Wheelhaus.cycling Great explanation as well. I agree that the big companies wouldn’t want to do this as much, but they are also the ones with the capital to pull it off. The small retailers are just that, too small and picking up the crumbs. They see the big brands as the draw and bend to their demands so they can put the sign on the door.
does anyone know if the "comfort fit insole" that comes standard with the Drako and the Tiger are machine washable?
@@curveball9999 Great question, not an official answer, just off the cuff. They get saturated with sweat or rain. I’d assume you could wash them. I’d maybe just start with hand washing and allowing them to dry
@@brucehumphries6889 helpful advice. thank you
I've been shooting a rx5 w/ 70# limbs @ 72#draw weight since it came out. We're married, its still almost as quick as the new ones, and it looks way cooler. It's a strait MFing nail driver. I rock a 8" backbar and the stubby attached to the hoyt legstand, & a quiver. I pack 3 arrows. Hunt quiver on. Perfect balance. Whitetail/turkey, most whitetail for me is 30yards and in. Turkey i get more open shots at and go longer distance. 410g 280fps 28"draw. Iron will wide vented broadheads. I plan to hunt with it for decades.
p.s. I just sent an email to Sidi customer service in Italy. If you'd like, I can report back on their customer service regarding these issues.
Hey Bruce, I have generally been very pleased with my DRAKO purchase with a couple exceptions. First, the SOFT INSTEP CLOSURE SYSTEM clasp does not hold the straps snugly in place and will periodically loosen while pedaling or walking (on both right and left shoes). The plastic ‘slot’ on the outside of the shoe that the curved strap passes through does not adequately hold the EVA pad in place. I had to trim the length of the straps on the inside of my shoes because they were hitting against my crank arms quite often. In addition, TECNO-3 PUSH dial/buckle on the outside of the left shoe is very difficult to turn, requiring significant turning force to tighten.
What’s it all about
@@umehhumphreyebube3183 Speed!
Would you recommend these if you have slightly wider feet?
@@UteKaritis Slightly wider, yes. You can go on Specialized Website and work thru their for protocol to get an idea.
Bruce, I've been very happy with the Drako, but like you, I may have been a bit happier with the Tiger. Anyway, I have recently developed a very annoying squeaking/creaking sound that eminates from where the red lug sole rests against my XTR SPD pedal. Have you experienced anything similar and can you recommend a solution or an alternative pedal? Thx.
I think that’s more the XTR pedal than the shoe. You could however put a bit of WD40 at that point. I’ve also seen pro riders put a zip tie around the center of the pedal spindle to cu down on the play of the pedal.
was this 1st Wave, because our race was WAY muddier for the 2nd Wave.
Yes, I was down there for the first wave and to move the tape and sign for your wave. Came back up to change clothes, and didn’t make it back down for wave 2. I agree…you had much more mud and muck
these shoes have a wider toebox, do you feel a difference compared to the old type? the old type recon fits me well, because I have narrow feet.
I like these better, just more comfortable overall. I had the older version as well.
Bows junk just broke in middle of handle
Considering this was two years ago, I’d say you did okay with it. It was never meant to be a lifetime bow.
Love the idea of keeping snacks in the SWAT storage. Enjoyed the vid!
Thank you! I try to relate to the normal riding public..I’m still searching for that unicorn bike. On an Ibis Ripley now, but that Mach4SL is a looker!
@@brucehumphries6889 - I've heard good things about the Ripley. We're going to have to exchange bike notes. I saw that you had a Vault and a LES, I've been wondering about both of those. My Mach 4 is brand new to me, but so far I'm liking it.
@@elroobike I still have the Vault, it’s an older version, but I love it. I ride the mountain bike 90% of the time, so the vault is on trainer duty until the spring and summer. The LES was a killer lightweight XC bike, but I didn’t care for a hard tail on the trails.
@@brucehumphries6889 - I haven't tried a "gravel" bike yet, but I am struggling to see it's merritt on anything other than a dirt road. But it seems like gravel bikes are all the rage. Have you tried the Vault on trails? I just can't imagine using drop bars off road, but I am very often wrong. I hear you on hardtails, I like/need some cushion.
@@elroobike I only ride it on some road and some dirt roads. If I’m on trail, I’m on the MTB
Did you went with the same size as your older Recon or did you need a different size? I’m looking to upgrade and also have the classic Recons.
Same size, but these do feel different. Go ahead and get some new Boas if you are looking to buy these shoes.
@@brucehumphries6889 i bought these shoes and I’m not sure about the sizing. So I just replaced my Fizik Terra shoes with the same size from the Recon SLs. According to the manufacturers the sizing is quite similar, but I assume that the Recons are a bit tighter and I’ve pretty wide feet, so they are not so comfy right now. Do they stretch a bit after a while or should I go for a half size bigger right away? p.s.: why should we buy some new BOAs?
Final question - some have commented there’s no rubber protection on the Drako sole between the cleat and the heel, as opposed to the Specialized S-Works Recon. And, should you become unclipped on a descent or miss a pedal, the exposed carbon is “like ice”, making it difficult to engage and stay in control. Have you experienced this and, if so, have you done anything to address it, such as applying a rubberized adhesive or tape to bottom of the sole?
It can be on the pedal, I haven’t added anything to the shoes to alleviate this. I also have the Recons, and the small piece of rubber doesn’t do much.
DRAKO update - I finally installed some SPD cleats on to my DRAKO 2 shoes and went for a short ride. Not only were the shoes EXTREMELY comfortable, but I’ve never felt SO CONNECTED to my pedals. Felt as though every ounce of energy went directly into moving my rear tire. Amazing. My only regret is that I waited so long to graduate from my old Sidi Dominators!
Bruce, did you also find that the toebox area/uppers stretched a little bit over time on the Drakos? The toe-box area of my new shoes are a little tight. I've been using Sidi Dominators for 20 years(!) and the uppers did stretch, but made of leather I believe. The Dominators only needed to be replaced because the soles are so badly worn on the outsides of the soles from walking a little bit on every ride over 20 years. Makes me walk like an bowlegged cowboy whenever I wear them
If they do, it will take a while. The uppers on the Drakos are ultra durable and supportive.
Just picked up a new pair of the Sidi Drako 2 SRS. Fit is great, HOWEVER, the top of the tongue is rather stiff and presses against the front of my ankle joint. I was wondering if you also noticed the same thing and if the tongue eventually becomes more pliable over time. I decided to put a small clamp over each tongue folding them away from the ankle joint (toward the toes) to see if that might relieve some pressure. I'm concerned that I won't be able to wear these shoes without substantial discomfort. Any feedback or input would be appreciated
I’ve always taken and made a small slit at the point where it pushing against my foot. That helps and it breaks in over time.
Appreciate the input. I found a video on the Sidi Drako website that states "cut the tongue for more comfort". had no idea @@brucehumphries6889 😁
@@cracked229 yep. I ended up doing the same thing. Nice feature for additional comfort. I have about 600 miles on these shoes now and still loving them
Buy a Mathews and get that smooth draw and fast speed. Catch Us If You Can.
right... go draw a Bowtech CP30 and thean draw a phase 4 29.. the bow tech is smoother all day long
How heavy was that last arrow and what is the draw length?
The weights should have been stated early in the video. Draw length is 27 or 27.5
Ok so I’m trying to figure out if tx5 will fit me im 6’2 shoot 70lbs and 29.5 DL. I hunt stands blinds and spot and stock don’t mine 5 in brace height but will I have issues with bulky hunting clothes getting hit now I have sleeve Slap guard that comes on my heavy jacket can someone give me input thank you
Not saying you couldn’t shoot it, but there’s probably better options for someone your height. That being said, you won’t know unless you shoot it, and that may be hard to do unless you order one
Great review, thanks for sharing your experience with these shoes!💪🏻🚴♂️
If you're not using that drako 2, can I possibly buy it
I just got one of these but it's the Martin Carbon Fury. Picked it up at a pawn shop for $40. Came complete with trophy ridge accessories. However the draw weight is too much for me I'm sure it said it's 70 lb. How do I scale it back like say 55? I haven't found anything on the internet that helps me. My local pro shops are dicks because they don't handle Martin.
Should have two limb bolts that you can turn back. I’d find another shop that will help you.
Amazing the an $800 bow is considered a budget bow. Lol
Get you an ultraview3 target scope kit!
"This cam seemed a little more aggressive than the solution . I think they are trying to pull more performance since it's a shorter draw cam." Uh, yeah. That's the idea, bud.
I love that tshirt, what is that? Great review too, thanks!
This shirt came from The Hub at Pisgah in Brevard, NC
Should have tested 350 grain arrow
We could, but If you watch the other videos, you will see that we are focusing on the hunting weight. We like heavier arrows, and we want to show how these bows perform with heavy arrows. There are many other videos with guys trying to just see how fast the bow is.
Just bought a carbon fury, but can't find any reviews on it whatsoever.
I was going to do a review of the bow, but it ended having a twisted riser and couldn't be tuned so I returned it. I did shoot it, I was quite at least
I too picked up a Carbon Fury at the local pawn. I'm trying to find information on how to lesson the draw weight. My local pro shops are dicks because they don't handle Martin. I can't find any information online.
@@zodx19 the draw weight can be decreased with the Allen screws on the front of the bow
How does it seem to compare to the Revolt X?
You and I have the same draw. I’m looking at short ATA bows (Triax, TX-5, VXR, or V3). Out of the Mathews line up that you have shot, which seemed more efficient? The TX-5 has crazy numbers but the brace height scares me. I shoot somewhere around 520 grains.
Yes, the TX-5 has the shorter brace, but that little bow can move a heavy arrow. I shoot the VXR31.5. I have found it to be one of the easiest bows to tune and shoot.
My Solution SS on performance at 72lbs and a 27.5" draw with a 454gr arrow shoots 274 fps. Looks like the Solution SD has some serious performance in the cams. What a great line up!!
I'm shooting the Mxr,25 draw and about 60 pounds. Would the Tx5 be a good upgrade?
Depends on alot on what you want out of the bow and your shooting capability. The TX-5 has a short brace, so can be hard to handle under some pressure situations. I still like it for a small power packed package.
@@brucehumphries6889 Thanks
That it’s normal Most of the speedy bows are jumpy but this Bowtech Solution it’s less aggressive of others bows. If you shoot the Bowtech SS model the draw cycle it’s completely smooth it’s not speedy bow.
Great job thanks for taking the time
My 70lb SS just arrived at the bow shop today, can’t wait to get my hands on it!
Nice Bow 🏹 👍
Can’t wait to get my v3 27 setup!
Disliking because bowtech made me wait 18 weeks on an order to say they messed up. No offer of compensation for my time. Bull to wait 18 weeks to be let down after paying for half of it. Had I known sooner could have got something else. 18 weeks to find out a mistake is just wrong.
If you all haven't seen a documentary called .... it's worse than you think... Bye revelations of Jesus Christ ministries... I suggest you do... All praise and glory to the most high Jesus Christ
Literally just paid $962 for this bow today with a site and stabilizer and quiver. When In the hell did an almost thousand dollar bow set up become “budget”.
18-31 guys Do research before you do a video
You could complain about the price!!
Don’t have to, it’s been done by many others
I've hunted with the TX-5 for the last two years. It's not a forgiving bow. All your stars better be aligned when you send it. Lol. I came from a 28" ATA bow (Z7 Xtreme) so it wasn't a big adjustment for me, except for the brace height difference. I run a five pin Black Gold sight with tape out to 100 yards for my 3D's in my field, effectively on point at that. I have kicked around the idea of going to a longer ATA, but I just find it difficult to part with this short fella right now. 😁
I just want mathews to get in on the user tunable game simular to bowtec with good strings was disappointed when they didn't
I’ve never had one that I had to change the top hats out. I guess I’ve been lucky.
I sold my RPM360 and have my eye on the Solution and the Mathews V3, my bowshop called today and said they got some SR6 models in. I'm not familiar with the SR6, so now I'm doing my research before I head over to the shop. Thoughts on the two now that you've been shooting the both.
I am partial to the Mathews. I’ve always been able to tune them and stay tuned.
@@brucehumphries6889 LOL, you didn't help much. It's a tough decision and for $1100 you want to make sure it's the right decision.
@@JustDeeOutdoors I hear you, when you are at the top bows, it really just comes down to what feels the best to you.
@@brucehumphries6889 My RPM360 had the really wide axle setup, like the SR6, and I wasn't fan of it. I was always worried I'd damage one of them and they take up a lot of room in a double bow case when flying. Thanks, loved the video.
@@JustDeeOutdoors Thanks for watching
I bought one earlier this year. Loved the tuning and it was certainly accurate, just as good as my SR6. But at the end of the first month, I had a limb crack. Bowtech had new limbs for it delivered in about 2 weeks. After that though I couldn’t trust it. It was bought to be a new primary bow going west and the SR6 being a backup. Loved the grip, felt very familiar to shoot, just couldn’t regain that trust for what It’ll be used for. Ended up trading for a different bow. I would just caution you to inspect it periodically when you’re shooting.
$700 bucks is budget? Damn...
Right now, yes.
I bought Sidi Tiger same color and love them. (Not the Tiger 2).
The bow sounds awesome, but.... Don't do a review and ask a thousand questions to the guy behind you makes you sound like you Don't know Jack squat!
