If she wants a big dog she should get a Greyhound, despite their very high sprinting speeds they are incredibly lazy indoor dogs that just like snuggling and snoozing.

My grandmother was the eldest of nine siblings. I relate to this so hard. I would occasionally have to use pen-and-paper at family reunions to figure out my specific relationship to someone.

0:50 oh in my experience in the us, there's always like one person who for whatever reason personally knows almost everyone in the family and would immediately spot the one person who isn't part of it if they paid enough attention. but also, for some reason, they usually are too busy talking with everyone to notice, and so the non-family-member wouldn't be noticed. and when they aren't, they usually are friendly to everyone anyways and just invite the crashers along as pseudo-family. ironically, this is how my immediate family got half-adopted into the family of one of my parent's friends from college. i'm not even joking. but also, i'm not just talking about that one example - i've heard of many such cases involving others, and myself have also nearly been swooped into a couple other families that way. i grew up in central appalachia very close to the border with the midwest, so i got appalachia, the midwest, and the south all three contributing to a perfect storm of it 😂

Dohnut is an insult because there's nothing in the middle (it took us a couple decades to realise you could put fillings in there)

This is something interesting, and correct me if I'm wrong, but in traditional Japanese feudal hierarchy, the peasant class, which works the land they do not own, is above the craftsman class which is above the merchant class. Obviously, the noble military classes are above the others. In western feudal hierarchy, the guilds are above the peasantry, which include the merchants and the craftsmen. Again, the noble warrior classes are above the others. That's something interesting about the peasant insult. Owners of land also fall into noble classes, especially if they are farmers.

My brother and I crashed a wedding reception in Germany once without realizing it, as we were already in the restaurant when it started. All of a sudden people started talking to us and sharing food everywhere and it was like a fest had just started out of the blue. When we finally realized what was going on, we found the bride and groom and made our apologies for the intrusion, but they were extremely gracious and invited us to stay. It was a bit odd, with us being americans in Germany, but they were all very friendly. Regardless we left after a bit and they insisted on covering our bill! A unique experience, to be sure.

I am ABSOLUTELY going to be stealing the “Your Mom has a big belly button” insult. That is HILARIOUS.

I'm surprised no one brought up that being called a Peasant is kinda the opposite of being called Noble. Also missed was the fact that it is most often used ironically.

I recall a certain Japanese Vtuber who used to have a genmate that sounded a lot like Henya. She had a catchphrase that English viewers would translate as “Hello peasants”. I wonder if that might give Henya an idea of the word meaning.

Peasants in the middle ages were basically the poor, more common folk. They often worked hard labor or out in the fields so were more likely to appear dirty or smell a bit less pleasant and peasants were far less likely to be educated or even be able to read especially before the invention of the printing press. So calling someone a peasant could be calling them poor, dirty, uneducated or in general just beneath you in class.

It is a hunter, unless it faces a mouse. Then Henya is on her own.
