A Spring Nights Shiver - Student Short Film

This was the capstone project I made in spring 2021 for my final year of college. Since the rest of my student shorts are on here I figured it would make sense to release this as well. The goal with this one was to tell a story with minimal dialogue and primarily visuals. I didn't succeed but I learned from it and if you learn from it then it's not a total loss. In the words of Brenden Lolar, i...

Excellent 🎉
Thank you!
GREAT film!! Gratitude!
Thank you so much!
What was the biggest challenge on set?
trying to make sure we were getting what we needed to while also not spending too long on takes. you usually wanna be wrapping up shooting by 10pm or so, so that puts a lot of pressure on the schedule.
@@DanBharry How long of a process was it?
@@Mr.Tesla99 shoot went from 10am to 10pm and then the edit went from 12am to 5pm
omg love it!! what camera was used to film this?
Sony Fx6. Forgot what lense type we used.
@@DanBharry right right, thanks! the film is so good!! 💓

This was fantastic!!! Idk why this doesn’t have a ton of views.
Your take on The Last Jedi just comes across as you being influenced by the bandwagon. It's not a remake of Empire. That's a very surface level take. TLJ parallels both Return of The Jedi and The Phantom Menace. The Lars homestead absolutely means something to Rey. It symbolizes the belonging she feels. She buries Luke and Leia's sabers near Shmi Skywalker. And after she gives symbolic closure for her masters, she looks out to the twin suns- twins- like her masters, but also a dyad, like her and Ben. And fundamentally, the twin suns represent what they've always represented: The future.
*as i continued to analyze the movie and infinitely better blockbusters which subverted my expectations while also being narratively satisfying came out, i came to know one truth* how you could read that as jumping on the bandwagon is beyond me. TLJ is most directly a remake of Empire, with ROTJ thrown in for good measure. i rewatched the movie again last month and , at it's narrative core, that's what it is. (rebels flee the empire while young jedi trains) given that the suns are setting, they cant be representing the future, because as established by George in Ep 4, the suns setting means that marks the ending of something, hence why the future was symbolized by sunrise in ROTS. There is an argument to made that the shot symbolizes the ending of the series, with the sun literally setting on the skywalker saga. The belonging rey feels is not on Tatooine, its on Kijimi with Poe, Finn, and the rest of the resistance, her found family. leias home got blown up, in fact leia has no connection to Tatooine other than getting arrested in its orbit. Luke couldn't wait to leave the place and when you really think about it Tatooine is a planet of hardship for the skywalkers, a place every generation sought to leave and was then executed at. its absolutely not for the characters and solely for the audience. why not rest luke and leia sabers in padmes tomb on naboo? with their mother at last? there are definitely writing issues with this video, chiefly an overuse of 'so needless to say', what you point out is not one of them.
@@DanBharry "how you could read that as jumping on the bandwagon is beyond me." I just don't buy it. You went from thinking very highly of the film, and apparently it took you a year to go to thinking it's trash and ripping off Empire. Which, again, I know you think that. A lot of people do. I can't be bothered to go into too much detail, but first, the acts are in reverse for TLJ from ROTJ and TPM. The Rise of Skywalker is reverse parallel to Empire and parallel to Attack of The Clones. I'm actually working on a project that will detail how it all breaks down, and why. But no, ROTJ is not just "thrown in for good measure". It's embedded in there at the structural and thematic level (along with TPM). That's not to say there are no parallels with Empire, but that is not TLJ's primary rhyming counterpart. "given that the suns are setting" They're not. It's very clearly a sunrise. But honestly it's a pedantic issue either way. Yoda calls back to Luke's sunset staring in Empire- "This one a long time have I watched. All his life has he looked away... to the future, to the horizon. Never his mind on where he was...what he was doing!" Tatooine is a planet of hardship for the skywalkers Again, I call your attention to that quote from Yoda. Luke couldn't wait to leave *out of impatience and boredom*. He was not yet the man he would become. He was not yet a Jedi. Why do so many fans have such habitually negative framing? This was where Luke knew love and family. This was where Shmi was freed and found love. Tatooine is where all of Anakin's memories of his mother take place. It's where Luke was first compelled to find the girl that turned out to be his sister. And though her home was blown up, I think at least she can appreciate that the sabers are buried next to their grandmother. No, the homestead is not *literally* where Rey finds belonging. It's a *symbol* of the bond she feels with her masters and Ben, and she wanted to see it to feel close to them, and symbolically lay them to rest. Padme is in a stone tomb. Logistically much less feasible to try and bury the sabers there. And while I don't think The Lars Homestead was *just* for the audience, I don't think that Naboo, which really only appeared in the prequels, is a good candidate to represent the saga and close it out.
@@weirdwest1702 Recall that Anakin was a slave and his final memory of his mother is her death and slaughtering of an entire tribe of Tusken. recall the clone wars, where Anakin not only doesn't want to fins rotta, he refuses to discuss his past with Ahsoka (through the film and the series, except to stay he won't talk about it) and Dooku uses his feelings to manipulate their duel. No matter how you want to spin it, Tatooine isn't his 'home' its a place of consistent torment for him. again, a simple breakdown of the narrative beats in TLJ, at its most simplistic, is ESB+ROTJ. there are scenes ripped from said movies and given a new coat of paint. that is not to say TLJ doesn't have ideas of its own (though it is afraid to commit to any of them), but it is to say that at the film's core is a recycled plot, which was the case with TFA and is, in most respects, the case for TROS. While the prequels also echoed the originals, at their narrative cores they are not the originals. I think the biggest failing of this video (and probably why you feel my reevaluation of TLJ is disingenuous) is that i don't go into the narrative workings of the OT, PT, and the core issues I take issue with when it comes to TLJ, and the sequels as a whole. given that they aren't the focus of the video it didn't seem pertinent but in retrospect, I think it would have made for a more comprehensive analysis. given that Naboo is where it all started, ending it there would complete the circle very well. anyway. glad you like the sequels and think they're narratively sound. I think they suck and are a narrative disaster. The final word on the subject from me.
@@DanBharry I recall that Anakin fell to the dark side in large part because of his "point of view". I'd be willing to bet that Force ghost Anakin might have a more nuanced take on Tatooine. This notion of a "recycled plot" is overly simplistic. What Star Wars does (and much more media than people are aware of) is remix. The original film (A New Hope) was by and large The Hidden Fortress in a Flash Gordon skin. While so many are smugly dismissing TFA as rehashing ANH, they've missed the many parallels to Revenge of The Sith. And they're not random. The entire story is being mirrored. And on another level, each act of TFA is it's own pared down mirror corresponding to each film of the OT. All of this coalesces into what George Lucas called "visual jazz". Call it recycling, but is being done is far more complex than simply a remake. The prequels went through the same scrutiny. Everyone patted themselves on the back for seeing that The Phantom Menace was A New Hope again. Only for deeper analysis to reveal that TPM, while having some parallels with ANH, was truly a parallel to Return of The Jedi. And the sequels are no different. Only now, one sequel film parallels two rhyming partners- a film from the OT, *and* a film from the prequels. Hence TPM and ROTJ echo each other. Now TLJ echoes both of them. Where each of these films falls within its respective trilogy and whether it runs fully parallel from beginning to end like TPM and ROTJ, or whether the rhyme scheme is reversed, where for example act 1 of both TPM and ROTJ parallels act 3 of TLJ, or act 3 of AOTC parallels act 3 of TROS, but act 1 of Empire- is entirely by design. The purpose is bigger than "recycling". There's parallels, inversions, reimaginings and recontextualizations. All done to make thematic highlights.
