Faculty Colloquium Series with Dr. Bartell Berg
After the suppression of the March Revolution of 1848 in Germany, many liberal intellectuals who participated in or sympathized with the democratic uprising emigrated to the United States. As they integrated into German-American society, the Forty-Eighters founded newspapers, periodicals, and social and learned societies, and their revolutionary fervor in the pursuit of equality, liberty, and justice found a new outlet in the slavery abolition movement.
As a prominent figure among these German-Americans, Mathilde Anneke advocated both for the causes of women’s rights (including participation in the suffrage movement) and the abolition of slavery. In my presentation, I explore Anneke’s publ...

Not the most professional preso IMHO. Look, I'm a scientist and I get the concern with this stuff but asking questions about some of these things that don't fit well in folks' minds w/r the archeo explanations isn't an issue, it's actually how science works. Forget about aliens, it's really about why/how did some of these seemingly advanced engineering feats get accomplished and some of the explanations seem a bit far-fetched. What would have worked better in your sales pitch was for example, the Saqqara Bird. You showed it, said it looked like a bird, and moved on. Show what the Ancient Aliens folks are saying about it. Why do they say what they say? Why is that wrong? Move to the next topic. The relating this back to Nazi-ism was a bit weird...I mean, you have folks questioning why statues in South America depict humans that don't look like native peoples there but look like peoples from other continents...a bit different than showing one ethnic group is sub-human....
Queer theory is Marxism Vgodknowswhatnumber.0 applied to the concept of normalcy.
You would think this was done in the early seventies with the amount of knowledge this guy seems to have, much has been learned since then, but this guy apparently has not been exposed to it YET!
Ninjas, Bigfoot, UFOs--silly fun. I've never seen an AA episode where anger or violence was directed at anyone. You're just A Party Pooper!!
Religion, on the surface doesn't have violence directed at anyone. As religion declines in importance, influential narcissists and sociopaths will need a good substitute to justify their power. This is where their "personal relationship" with the "highly advanced aliens" will come in handy
No sense !! I can’t believe that there are people who argue regarding ancient aliens and ufo s and very ancient history.. shame on you!
It's such a far stretch to claim that people who espouse the ancient astronaut theory in our current day are eugenicists or Nazis who would rather disregard other cultures. It's undeniable that many ancient monoliths and mythology can't be entirely explained by our current knowledge about these time periods, hence the existence and promulgation of alternative theories about our past in the absence of satisfactory explanations. Overall, while the main idea surrounding Ancient Aliens is highly speculative and has yet to yield any high quality evidence, saying that it's nonsense or thinly veiled racism totally misses the mark.
You are the mark. It is easy to prove that it is thinly veiled racism based on the writings of old promulgators and it will be called nonsense until there is solid proof. The absence of disproof, a disproof which most ET origin believers require, does not justify the theories being spread.
@@fsinjin60 That doesn't prove that the concept itself is racist, simply that it comports with a racist's world view. The same can be said for many things, and people who classify entire ideas as inherently racist (despite race often being somewhat extraneous to the topic) tend to be overly political and narrow-minded. Also, it's totally counterproductive and uninquisitive to call a coherent theory - that hasn't been disproven - nonsense, even in the absence of strong evidence for it. People listen to these types of theories because they're fascinating and inspire further investigation, which justifies them being spread in my eyes.
@@dwellinginshadows There is no viable evidence except for the disbelief in evolution. There MUST be genetic enhancement. But it is great to see that 'racist' is such an awful term no one wants to labelled with it even when it is the appropriate description of the concepts espoused by the progenitors of the theories. It is not extraneous, but inherent in all discussion of speciation of the primate genus. A theory is not quite a theory when it actually is not coherent -- look around, the ET theorists goes down awful pathways of describing the various ETs that created humans without discussing the genetic component that they imbued different from earthly genetic materials. Less speculation and more research, please. These 'theories' are no more than speculations if not nonsensical. I personally am in favor of the ARK story being a space ship rescuing the inhabitants of the planet between Mars and Jupiter that was hit by an asteroid and completely obliterated. But does it deserve more than a glance and a nod? No.
What a poor presentation!!! This is just on the same level, or even below, of what he’s trying to ridicule. I hope he’s just representing himself with that underdeveloped work… just keep him away from public view, please, as he does not help the cause at all. What a bad approach, i just can’t believe it. Is he paid for that? I really wish to know if someone is paying for that garbage of presentation. He makes no use of any scientific knowledge, he just throws sentences the same way Ancient Aliens do… i’m going to stop writing, that presentation is a bad joke.
I understand all the junk science on ancient aliens. I believe a lot of today's alien claims are far-fetched. But for this speaker to say there is no evidence today, that is an unsubstantiated claim. This guy does not have the credibility of a Garry Nolan. The critics of Avi Loeb are just journalists who don't have all the facts. Even Sean Kirkpatrick's report acknowledges the existence of real evidence that cannot be explained. This speaker claims to be open-minded and careful, but he said there is no evidence of aliens without knowing that that is a fact.
I have learned so much history and places all the world from Ancient Aliens channel !
To many words saying nothing , lot's of backstabbing, very little science, must admit stopped after 1 hour of listening.
You lasted longer than me, but I must say I think this guy actually believes what he is saying which is just more proof of what the indoctrination system does to people's brains
@@davidwillis5016 you right, ~70% of all people are indoctrinated so heavily since childhood , even if you show them proof of something new, they stick to their childhood "believes" . I stopped conversation with them....
thanks for letting me be a fly on the wall. great talk! for people who can't get enough of the ufo and aliens in myth and folklore, check out chris aubeck's new books!

well youbetter start showing or telling something , very poor presentation ! some of it is entertainment some is not as far as this stuff goes use common sence some folks do not have any, anyone knows some of this stuff is true & the old world people could do alot more than folks think the KEY is to live in with nature therefore you perserve our earth , some of this stuff is real common sence / poor presentation man go home

A joke or a big lie. So is it another lie from someone who has a new agenda or is it all a true possiblety. all the lies that have been taught to us through our schools. So a liar calling a a new theory a joke is just a liar trying to protect the same false agenda that they brain washed everyone into thinking was our true past. Not saying the new agenda is true only saying our past certainly isnt. History is written from the winners and not necessarily factual.
You can fool some of the people some of the time, but you can't fool all of the people all of the time! The disinfo campaign is Crashing Down! 80 years worth of lies and cover-ups, you really think this little video is going to change anyone's mind? Just another guy who hasn't done his homework/ research. Very arrogant too. Or are you just afraid of losing your job? Who knows, who cares. The disinformation campaign is over and done .The people have woken up to the truth and nothing's ever going to change that. Trying to pick it apart, some of the more out there theories is not going to make a dent. Especially with so many eyewitnesses and video and audio coming out everyday and being uploaded to RUclips and other channels. It's over! We know they're out there. But go ahead and keep trying to keep the world flat!
Thank you for this rambling comment that demonstrates several of the points in my talk, which I am guessing you didn't even watch. If you have a piece of evidence (just one) which you think proves ANY aspect of the Ancient Astronaut Theory, you should share it and prove all the skeptics wrong.
Thank you for this great presentation! I knew David Childress back in the day - he likes traveling, and he led a tour group that I was on, way back in 1983! I think he doesn’t really believe this stuff - as long as his pseudo-science books are selling, he doesn’t really care. Von Daniken himself was exiled for a while, after he wrote “Gold of the Gods,” claiming a vast network of underground tunnels and caves with gold and other “evidence” of his ancient astronauts. Neil Armstrong himself (!!!) was part of a 100-man expedition to explore these underground caves in Ecuador in 1975 and came up with nada - Von Daniken was publicly ridiculed for promoting a big hoax. Von Daniken himself eventually bounced back, of course. Jason Colavito, another man who has written books debunking “Ancient Aliens,” also wrote “The Cult of Alien Gods: H.P. Lovecraft and Extraterrestial Pop Culture.” Colavito theorizes that Von Daniken was inspired to write about “ancient astronauts” based on a science fiction novel by Lovecraft. Maybe you could work some of these points into your lecture? I agree that the whole “ancient aliens” trend (and the number of people believing such nonsense) is a very dangerous trend.
Thanks for the comment. I do have a slide mentioning Lovecraft in the historic stream of space aliens stuff that feeds into the Ancient Astronaut Theory. I don't know much about Lovecraft, and Jason has done a great job of discussing that aspect of the phenomenon.
Many thanks for the presentation! If Ancient Aliens on the History Channel can’t provide a plausible explanation for anomalies, then they conclude it must be aliens from a distant past. I took courses in the history of technology while in college in the mid 7’0’s. Our professor used Von Daniken’s book as a reading assignment and ripped EvD to shreds. Sad that the History Channel routinely deals in more BS than Fox News.HC was a much better choice when they just ran clips of Hitler and German film from World War ll. Their crowning achievement was the mini series about U.S. Grant.
I think a lot of people are drawn to it because the vast majority of people are brought up with a worldview presented by either the church or mainstream science, regarding our origins, and neither are quite right. Aliens aside, as I have had a life-long fascination with paleontology, the notion that we are just a natural breed birthed by evolution alone is absolutely absurd. There's definitely a missing puzzle piece here because we went from simple primates to astronomy and advanced architecture in the time it takes me to eat a sandwich. People who believe in the narratives from the church or from mainstream science are nuttier than any ancient astronaut theorist. There is also blatant evidence of genetic engineering in human DNA.
@@uslegions2619Evidence of genetic engineering?? Other than recent advances with CRISPR and methods along the Mendelian line, what evidence are you referring to?
I mean, if you think this is a great presentation it’s either because he’s a friend of you or then you have a very low expectations of what a presentation can be quality-wise. It’s one of the worst presentations i have ever seen, and i mean presentations that pretend to be serious.
