Summerboard Review - Maintenance? - Comparison to Leiftech V2

Taking a look at what level of maintenance is required for the Summerboard, and getting into some details that explain more.
Summerboard Review - 1 month later!
Просмотров 64 тыс.4 года назад
Thought I'd do a full commute from home to work as a 1-month review video. During the commute, I weigh in on some thoughts on the board, and go over the riding that I typically do on my commutes. I think the best reviews are just raw riding footage, and I don't think I've seen a video out there where someone does a full commute on their board.
Summerboard vs. Leiftech Review Part 1: Deck Comparison
Просмотров 13 тыс.4 года назад
I'm a Summerboard rider and in the first part of my comparison series, I look at the deck, as well as the overall look and feel of the board: Shape, Weight, Foothold Mounting, Plastic Detailing, and more. Leave a comment, like , or subscribe if you'd like to see other comparison videos and riding videos!
Thank for your video. I finally find answer to that important question! :-)
Nice video maybe you should drive on normal streets not newly paved and review it....
Nice!
How did you film that? Did you use some kind of drone camera that follows you around?
Hey now that it's been 3 years, how has the mechanical aspect as well as maintenance been? I've been seeing a lot of posts and reviews online about batteries, remotes, etc breaking down not even like a month in, and I just received my board about a week ago so would like a veteran in the summerboard community's input.
No prob! Summerboard really locked everything down from a mechanical and electrical perspective. They had a run of funky remotes like 1-2 years ago and similar with batteries. both of mine have been great though. They just revamped their motherboard and battery to a much more reliable system (which you have, if you just got your board) so you should be ALL GOOD! Happy shredding, be safe, and follow their tutorials- they are so helpful.
Do you recommend getting the foot holds? I was thinking about it but not really sure if it’s worth an extra $150 for the holds and launch pads
Hey bro, I have one and honestly I've been using my foamies a lot more than the footholds. The footholds are best for jumping, and higher speeds.
Great board! When pushing off, Aaron recommends pushing off while your back foot is on the board so that your front foot creates better forward momentum, among a couple more reasons 👍🏼
Thanks!!!
So was getting the part of the narrator in this video like a big jump off point for landing you the roll in the new netflix dahmer series or was it just another in a line of stepping stones? .. c'mon i just wanna take some pictures of ya'.. nothin wierd just artsy stuff. You know. ... oh the smell? Yeah my family sent me some meat and my freezer went out so it all went bad. I'll take it out tomorrow. ... keep the great work bro... nice riding too. Cant wait to get mine and try it out.
You like Huey Lewis and the News? Their early work was a little too new wave for my taste. But when Sports came out in '83, I think they really came into their own, commercially and artistically. The whole album has a clear, crisp sound, and a new sheen of consummate professionalism that really gives the songs a big boost…
@@yeti_riding5612 🤣 well played
This isn’t really him being paid to advertise one of the boards bc he’s literally comparing the older version of the same board
Hail Boognish ! (nice hoody and riding!)
Yes!! Going to see them next week 11/1/22
@@yeti_riding5612 Wowza, enjoy the show!
Can a summerboard remote connect to a other bored
I'm sold
Hey I hope everything is ok! Love all this content you made on the board, big reason I got one. I hope you are still riding!!!
Hell yeah I’m still riding!! Just terrible about filming and editing videos, I don’t have the patience any more, hah! I have the new foamies and they are incredible, I love riding with them
@@yeti_riding5612 Im going to order them as soon as I get my board in, just was thinking its better to l;earn w the board stock
@@rhinomesk yeah it’s great to learn with no holds at all, but the foamies are such a small step up, and you can bail out of them no problem, which means you can go from learning to the foamies much quicker than transitioning to the regular footholds. IMO, Once you learn the rolling start and have that down well, you can go to the foamies no problem. Going too fast to the regular footholds can be problematic though
@@yeti_riding5612 I put the foamies on the very edge and I’m barely able to use them. I’m pretty new to this and I can ride just fine but is a wider stance even possible while being balanced.
@@Mally620 thanks for reaching out - I also like a wide stance and my foamies kinda hang off the edges near the toes (ducked stance) - is that not wide enough for you?
I've ride over terrain like this before and will never do it again because of the damage it caused
Would love to see more videos of you shredding man. What's your avg speed when you travel, do u know?
Yes, there is a speedometer on the remote! I like to cruise around 15 mph, which for me is a comfortable speed to spin and be able to run it out if I ever have to bail.
@@yeti_riding5612nice bro. Thanks for the info. I average around 7-10. Guess i gotta work my confidence back up to gain some speed after i had a bad crash a few months back
@@natraniel no way, just ride with what you’re comfortable with. Honestly I probably average 12mph
I'd love to hear a 2 year update I'm considering getting one and the current E-board I have is getting pretty rough after 2 years wondering how your Summerboards holding up.
Holding up solid!!! Just got a (cold but fun) ride in last night. I need to post more videos. What happened with your current eBoard? My deck and plastic parts are still great.
@@yeti_riding5612 idk it's starting to lose power randomly around 60% battery. I'll be riding and it will beep like it turned itself off and on its a meepo board. But it's scary when I'm going faster than 18mph or so and it happens.
The summerboard is revolutionaryyy. Im into 6 months and its fun
Whts the fastest tht thing can go
You can go as fast as a downhill slope will carry you. On flat ground, the motors can go up to about 28 (for me at least). There's a decent little downhill in my local park where you can go 38 easily, but I don't do that. I got a buddy that does
@@yeti_riding5612 oh i mean just on plain street
@@rickosuavante3676 yeah, on flat ground it will go up to 28
Are those foothold necessary for commuting?
Nah, I can do just about everything without footholds. They just give you more control and stopping power. Riding without the footholds is actually good because it forces you to balance a lot better.
I can't wait to try the new minimal footholds they are coming out with, called foamies
@@yeti_riding5612 thanks for that input. I was starting to think I would not improve unless I buy foothold. I'm getting better the thinner the wheels get
Hey I appreciate this video a lot, super helpful! Just curious, what are the maintenance and maintenance costs that you’ve put into this since you bought it? I would LOVE to get this but almost 2k is a lot, don’t want to drop a bunch more on maintenance quickly ya know? Thanks!
the maintenance isn't bad, just change the outer wheels every so often (they typically last me 3-5 months) and those are not expensive. The inner drive wheels last me over a year. If you have a warranty issue, SB will cover it. Its just a blast to ride
Really like your videos. Also love finding little obstacles to ride around.
Love how you show the difference between & upgrades from the Leiftech version to newest version. Shows that SB is about improving the quality & experience of their customers.
Not to be creepy but I bet you're wearing Triple 8 protection shorts. I have the same ones.
No, they're Leatt, but any shorts are great!
@@yeti_riding5612 right on, my sons wear Leatt for motocross. I just received my Amored Jeans by Lazyrolling.
So if you can shred on a SB, how quickly might you pick up actual snowboarding, if you’ve never done it?
I've seen a couple of videos of people who did that and they were able to comfortably ride around chill runs on their first day, and navigate the mountain. Pretty incredible, considering that you typically spend your first few days snowboarding on one bunny hill.
when I was a kid I wanted a hoverboard. and now my dream has come true! looking forward to the future of this technology, can only get better/more streamlined.
Yeah you get the same flexibility in movement
Does the motor autoreverse when you switch 180?
That is not necessary, motors always run forward. The caster wheels spin with you, and they do that automatically because the force of your weight and board movement pushes them into alignment
@@yeti_riding5612 Got it. I realised that might be the case from the wheel vertical alignment question below. You seem pretty comfy sliding, i guess the amount of slide is controllable by the amount of pressure on the "outrigger" wheels? Also, you mention stepping off below, but is that possible with those L-shaped brackets over your foot? I feel I would end up in a heap if I tried to leap off...on that point, can you face-plant, catch an edge??
@@ColindeSilva you have to start out really slow, just like anything, where you use just the board and not the L-shaped footholds. Once you get comfortable and able to jump off the board without the footholds, then you start to use the footholds and practice, then you can jump out of the footholds pretty easily. You can catch an edge, however the consequences aren't nearly as bad because you are not locked into the board like you are with boots and bindings on a snowboard. You can fall off any skateboard and wreck yourself pretty good though
I've been looking into Summerboard and came across your channel. Very inspiring. Thanks for the content! One side question if you feel like addressing it, protective gear. It looks like you're pretty well protected underneath your clothes and I'm wondering what you're using.
No problem! SB is just incredible, it truly never loses that initial spark. I'm using leatt 3df knee pads & hip/butt pads, and wrist guards. When I do hardcore park riding, I get padded up. If I'm just running an errand or riding chill, I'll only use wrist guards. Helmet always, of course.
You look extremely comfortable on the board, from other reviews I saw people falling a lot and needing to wear full protective gear etc. I am a very experience snowboarder, snowboarding instructor etc. Have snowboarded full seasons for many years. The board looks really appealing to me, apart from the inevitable injuries and having to wear protection in a lot of the other videos I've seen, what are your thoughts?
Thanks! Injuries are NOT inevitable - it's like anything, just ride within your limits (and a lot of people don't do that). That said, you should wear pads, in this video you can see my knee pads under my pants, and I wear wrist guards. I recommend that as a minimum, with a helmet of course.
@@yeti_riding5612 ok fair enough. I thought I could see the pads. Cheers and safe shredding
@@DigitalSamTV no problem. If I'm going to run a quick errand or something, I'll just throw a helmet on, but if I want to really shred, I'll use knee pads and wrist guards
@@yeti_riding5612 what wrist guards/knee pads do you ride? Curious as to keep the remote usable while having a guard. My summerboard is on its way, need to go shopping for some gear. :-)
@@travisroth4077 I really like Leatt gear (3df series) because it is slim and protects well. G-form (e-line series) is also a good option. I definitely recommend getting something with a hard shell outer (it can be thin), but you want it to be able to slide, not catch like a soft shell.
Hi thank you for the amazing video and the narration. I'm looking for my first e-skateboard. Do you think this would be good for group rides? I like how it requires more engagement from the user, but I'm afraid I might irritate people who are cruising slowly because of the constant weaving and sliding. Thanks!
No way! When I ride in groups, other skaters are mesmerized by this board, they love it. Also, the amount that you weave (if you want to go straight) is not that much, and if you give the normal safe amount of space, that is plenty. Every time I show up for group rides with e skaters, this board is the star
How are people recording these videos?
I recorded myself with an Insta 360 camera... Trippy
what did you use for a camera to record all this footage? that rocks!
Thanks! It's an insta 360
I don’t snowboard. Tried it once and ate shit so much and that led me to not wanting to try it again. BUT THIS! This looks like so much fun and can get some good drifts in! If it’s not sold out forever I might pick one up
Get it man, it's so fun! You can start really slow with no hills, so it's easy to avoid eating shit. The only people who eat shit are the ones that get way overconfident too early and kook out - but you could apply that to pretty much anything
That was a good vid. Thank You. I just purchased this week.
Nice!!! You're going to love it
Finnally someone with a imformative video on this board, THX :)
Really cool but the sound of it is horrible! Also 12miles is actually probably what? 6-7 depending on weight?
No way, its more like 9-12 miles depending on weight.
Smooth as silk bruda
Can you still accelerate while riding switch? I'm a goofy rider and am wondering how that would work, would I just flip the foot hooks around?
Board doesn't care what direction you go in, it can accelerate in any direction. It doesn't know goofy from regular 🤘 go crazy
You ever gonna do a 1 year later video or something?
Yeah I need to do that, it's been over a year now that I've had it. I ride the hell outta this thing, and still learning new stuff all the time
@@yeti_riding5612 cool, good to hear it's still holding up a year later. with maintenance im sure
@@kaznerRichter913 maintenance is pretty minimal - on par with a bicycle or other personal vehicle. I hardly ever touch it other than switching outer wheels as they wear down.
What are the crashes like?
like anything - you got to ride responsibly
Can you keep the board straight or is it consistently sliding? Also does it ride good on rough terrain
Really depends on how rough the terrain is - the freshies drive wheels really help with that. You can ride straight, just like on a snowboard
I might sound very dumb right now but where would some one get replacement drive wheels
On the summerboard web site. Check out the freshies, those are the soft version of the drive wheel
How much do you have to rely on the accretion from the motor to actually go? Is there a way you can ride without a remote ie a large hill
Yeah, going down a hill you don't need the motors. The park I ride at is uphill from my house, which is great because multiple times I have drained my battery and made it home on gravity
Hey dude I'm highly considering getting the sbx but I'm just worried about the top speed. The commutes only 6km for me so not worried about battery life, was hoping if the board can easily rip through flats streets doing at least 30 kms/h.
Oh yeah it will - top speed is 40 km/h. I usually cruise at about 24-28 km/h. In this video I'm doing about 24.
@@yeti_riding5612 thanks a lot dude! That was literally my only concern before buying into it! I'm legit stoked, 24-30kmh and you can freely do a power slide with way less drag?
@@christianalegre5724 yeah, drag depends on how much weight you put on your edge. Once you get more skilled at riding on your Center wheels, then you don't put much weight on your edges, which means less outer wheel wear and also means less drag and speed reduction.
Looks so fun, 👌
how do you pair the remote to the board? (summerboard sbx)
Use their app for android or iphone, it's really easy. Remote come pre paired though
Love this board, SB is still making improvements and they provide riders the ability to upgrade their boards. Shyeahhh
Both boards have a bad fail history. I wish you did a comparison on which one has more unhappy riders.
Joe, do you need a hug?
Do you mean like mechanical failures or like someone high sides and breaks their face because they are in binding on a summerboard anyway?
@@lumberjackthirsttrap3676 I think he means electrical failures, but that hasn't been an issue for quite some time. In the first run (fall 2019) they had some battery fails which required swapping out a small component, but that was fixed about a year ago.
@@yeti_riding5612 so I’m thinking about getting a summerboard or evolve gtr , I tried a one wheel didn’t care for it. I like to snowboard and downhill/free ride on Valhalla longboards. Any suggestions?
Also can you catch and edge or high side on a summerboard because that sounds deadly
Irony is the first batch of them were made on the block of @9:00 before they moved to LA! Looks fun!
I’ve heard mixed reviews about the build quality and the deck cracking, how do you find the board holding up over time you’ve been riding it and do you think the price tag reflects the quality of the board and its components?
YES build quality is top notch. They had a run of decks that had cracking and I saw that they shipped new decks to those customers. They take care of their riders 1000%. My board takes a beating and just keeps going. I've heard others say this, and I'm the same - I cant go back to a world without this board!
@@yeti_riding5612 since you’ve had the board for a year now, what part did you have to repair/replace? thank you
@@jackieliu1232 I've had the board for about a year and a half. Early on I had to replace a battery component (they sent it to me and I did it myself with a screwdriver) but they resolved that problem quite some time ago. Since then, I've only replaced wheels when they wear down, and a couple of belts (seriously, maybe two belts over this whole time).
Awesome video buddy the record is insane 💪
