Adam Simon present work done with Larry Cathles to quantitatively model the mine and refinery production of copper. Our model demonstrates that mines cannot produce the copper required to achieve 100% electrification of vehicles in the U.S. and EU and produce the electricity with wind and solar. Policy makers must acknowledge this and create pathways to decarbonize that do not require 100% electrification.
