Pin striping is a big thing over the pond, and is usually done with a slightly different brush to the English liners I use and sell 🙂

Yes it is! I am a purveyor of it! I’m just curious how we got the brush we have. The lining all came from the same place (Romans?) just wonder who decided the one we have was the one to use over here? Who really knows.

I’ll try a smaller brush but for now I’m still fighting with trying to get nice neat corners. Arrgghh .. the stress, but I aint giving up. Hiya, I use Craftmaster Paints mainly. They do a range of Signwriting Paint and Coachpaint. However if using one of my pre-prepared boards that are available from my website in various colours, I just paint right on to either the shiny or matt side depending on what I am painting. Hope that helps 🙂

Thanks for watching. This was intended as a short video in answer to someone's question about specific artwork I had created so you're right that it doesn't go into lots of technique. I am planning on a more in depth video all about shadows as I know people can struggle. Was there anything in particular you'd like me to cover or include?

@@Joby.Carter Thanks for the reply. Odd that you didn't mention that in the title nor in the video itself... I'm an accomplished signwriter and airbrush artist so, without trying to sound like I know it all, I don't, there's nothing I really need regards shadows. I usually try to adjust the spacing to ensure shadows don't run into adjacent letters, that and ensuring the shadow depth is not so great as to butt up to neighbouring letters helps in most cases. A basic understanding of perspective and vanishing points is key and easily learned. Lots of practice... I'll look forward to your more in depth video

You can either chalk or charcoal the back of your paper and draw your design through and it will transfer or you can pounce your design on with a pounce pad and pounce powder, you will need to make a series of holes into your design to pounce it. 👍

Appreciate your supportive vibe as on some of the sign writing groups I’ve been shot down as a beginner trying to learn what I can, hopefully I will be able to enrol in one of your courses, hopefully you can do one during summer holidays (teacher here)

Hi Joby. I hope you don’t mind me asking more questions. What would the next layer be on top of the aluminium primer? The main background colour is going to be ivory so I imagine I’ll need undercoat to cover the grey aluminium primer, is that correct? Then would I use a domestic exterior gloss for the ivory background or would I use the sign writing enamel? I would like this project to last as long as possible of course! Thanks in advance ❤

@@RebeccaFreear I would use two Craftmaster Paint undercoats followed by two Craftmaster Paint top coats, rubbing down between each coat of paint. The undercoats would ideally be a similar coat to the colour your are using, Joby has an upcoming coach painting course taking place on 16 July, do come along if you are able as how to undertake tasks such as this will be being taught.
