00:14:36 What an ominous statement! (I wonder if we ever get a premonition of our own death?!) This is the best chapter of the novel. It's full of genuine emotion 😔.

Ironically, Cottard is right: the plague does bring with it a sudden new way of thinking and living. (For some, 2020 brought awareness of mortality, self-reliance, better care of one's health, less blind trust in authority... even, paradoxically, more freedom to choose a different way or place to live.)

The latter part has a narrator who truly understands what he's reading. Bra---vo!

I love this but fail to understand the piano continuous music - it should fade out after the first minute. Could someone explain to me the factors behind why an audio engineer decided to put continuous piano music behind a serious audio book?

"The just man need have no fear"?? What a joke that is. Religion has got to be the biggest con ever perpetuated on the average man. (No wonder Camus was an atheist ... and, before his execution, Meursault sends the priest away!)

You close the gates? People are in imposed exile. (You may delude yourself that this will pass. But reality doesn't care about your self-hypnosis.) His symbolism is perfect.

Yes, plagues take the world by surprise ... but only when they are not released by design to reduce the masses😔.

This graphic part of the novel is tough to listen to or read. (I'm waiting for that beautiful chapter 3.)

This novel starts in a shocking way ... and then ... day by day, the danger builds and panic takes over. Kind of like 2020 ... but without deliberate plans. Great novel--thanks for uploading. (Your taste in literature is exquisite, by the way.)

95% of the world's humanity lives this kind of life year after year until falling into a grave. A very rare few choose to walk in the opposite direction of the herd. Not easy. (A terrific set of stories that make you question how you have lived your life. Camus is the best ... and then come the rest.)

Camus is the only philosopher I have ever read who wrapped his ideas in such lyrical, poetic prose. Unmatched. This is another great example: "Exile and the Kingdom."

A very telling tale. Although not Camus' intended theme, I believe that this story also shows that people will disappoint you in life. Family, friends, spouses, lovers, employers--people!--will not always bring you joy (even if they want to). But if you love your work--music, literature, history, science, medicine, and other pursuits of the mind--they will give your life meaning and maybe even make you happy before you die.

There are a very few rare people who realize their life is nearly over and will sacrifice the rest of it for the benefit of another. Most, however, are selfish, lazy, and opportunistic and will exploit others for their own benefit. Camus saw this fact most clearly.

Paradoxical view of morality ... and painful self-examination. First-rate book.

Can there be any writer greater than Camus? A more truthful philosopher? I doubt it. (Thanks for uploading the story of one of the most complex characters in fiction. Nothing is as it appears.)
