A 360 degree of Killawalla Village 2024

Storm Debi hit the west coast of Ireland in November 2023. This short video shows some of the local flooding in the Killawalla-Ballyburke areas.

Killawalla National School presented its annual Christmas Program at Killawalla Community Centre on December 19, 2023.

Killawalla Community Council held its annual Christmas Tree Lighting on December 7, 2023. The Council wishes to thank all those who helped in any way to celebrate this special occasion.

The annual Killawalla Sheep Show for 2022 was held at Pakie McEvilly's field on October 23. This 6 minute video gives you a sampling of the crowds, the winners and, the hopeful, for next year.

This 10 minute video shows the demolition of Killawalla Old School in 1994. Many older members of the Killawalla community will remember the days they spent in this two room classroom.

Ground-breaking for a new primary school in Killawalla took place in February 1993. The ground-breaking was performed by then EC Commissioner, Padraig Flynn. The new school was opened in 1994. The video is 35 minutes long; was filmed by Petie Carter and edited by Michael Tracey

This video includes the storm of a man who buried his three children in Ballyburke Graveyard. It also includes how a Mr. William Malley, great, great grandfather of Matt O'Malley of Ballyburke of his generosity as poor rate collector. The story appeared in "The Connaught Telegraph", 29, November 1848.

Killawalla Community Council sponsored a Community Day for the local community on July 3, 2022. Peole gathered to enjoy a day of fun, food and prizes.

During the Penal Days in Ireland, practice of the Catholic religion was banned. Priest Hunters made their livelihood by hunting down, killing priests and presenting their heads to the authorities. One such Priest Hunter was Sean naSagart (John of the priests), the notorious local man from Derrew, near the town of Castlebar. This is his story.

Communities throughout Ireland built and lived in what was called "Vernacular" homes in the early 1900's. This video showcases the ruins of one such village in the present village of Cullintra. The design was simple, open plan and functional and included the famous "caileach" which was an alcode off the kitchen that supported a bed for grandparents.

Killawalla Community Council sponsored a 7k walk with Charlie Bird in conjunction with "Climb with Charlie" April 2022 to the summit of Croagh Patrick.

The Cross in Killawalla Cemetery was moved to a new location to facilitate the new extension to the Cemetery. This took place on December 11, 2021. We are indebted to Martin & Rory Kelly, Micheal Cannon and Micheal Larkin who completed the project.
