Cannonball Taylor intends to pose as Speed's main rival, especially from the end of the movie when Speed, himself, gets invited to the Grand Prix by Taejo's sister when she arrives at the door of the Racer family house. And, when Speed participates in the Grand Prix, he roars to where he confronts Cannonball Taylor and trashes Cannonball and his chance of being a hall of famer, then soon after Speed is stalled, but only after gaining full power again does he roar all the way to victory.
