    You immediately caught my attention by starting the video with Tchaikovsky-Pletnev "Andante Maestoso". Thank you. Regarding injuries, if you have relatively small hands, also don't start playing Rachmaninoff G minor prelude (opus 23 num 5) with cold hands... It hurts pretty bad... For weeks...

    I was lucky enough to hear you practice this back in the Baltimore apartment circa 2008 - honestly, a cherished memory. It was the first time I heard anyone play this arrangement, and I think it might have been the first piece I ever heard you play. It was deeply moving then, and though the emotion may not be as raw as it was 15 years ago, I'm moved again today. Cheers ☺

    Very interesting interpretation, to say the least. With both up and downsides in my opinion. The downs first, although I like pretty much mechanical, sharp, brilliantly piano tunes, this is a little bit too much on the high notes. More about the interpretation itself, I find you a bit slow or even not quite paced well enough to shift to the next « phrase » so thé recording is ~20sec too long. And then on the other hand the arpeggios articulation is simply divine. It’s flabbergasting. As a whole your interpretation is original and personal, it’s refreshing.

    Intriguing sounds! From a prepared piano?

    • @ericzuber
      @ericzuber 4 года назад

      Not prepared, but yes very interesting sounds. I absolutely love this piece. Certain movements can be performed without preparing the piano, such as this one. This was performed at a competition so I didn't have an opportunity to chalk the exact spot where the harmonics occur. I practiced on a concert grand enough times that I just kind of memorized where I need to put my fingers on the strings... Not exact by any means.

  • @pekoe6155
    @pekoe6155 4 года назад

    I have been making a personal study of this movement, listening to all the versions I can find on RUclips. I particularly like this one because to me Mr Zuber masters the tension between flow and clarity. Too much pedal, and the flow turns too mushy. Too much diction and the flow gets killed. It is a very subtle balance, and I really like this one a lot because he gets this just right for me. And he keeps it restrained when there is a tendency to rush the tempo a bit during crescendos (which kills the drama). But at 3:20 there is a crescendo that leads back into the main theme, and at this point Mr Zuber pulls back at the entry into the main theme---why? Playing through the crescendo into a fuller entry back into the main theme is a thrilling effect in other performances. Is is written that way or a matter of individual interpretation? But taken all together, this is my current clear favorite. Thank you so much for bringing such beauty and finesse for all of us to experience!
