There are only few bands with no bad albums nor tracks. KC as the GOAT is the first one. VDGG is some kind of another example, but those bands are somehow related. Fripp and Hammill are greatest personalities of prog among so many stunning musicians. Those guys became the most influential...

As you said Eloy are probably as underrated as Gentle Giant. One thing about prog is there are so many hidden treasures for those willing to search for them

The 70’s Genesis albums are the strongest of their catalogue,towering above the commercial stuff that came out later.

Thanks my friend. With you all the way except for last part of the 'Lamb'. Also against the flow I loved ATTW3 and Duke which were my introductions to them. I only got 'divorced' from them after buying Abacab! .......... I then explored backwards through their wondrous catalogue and have been hooked ever since. Melody and Prog are sometimes uneasy bedfellows for me, but invariably they are true to both ideals.

In no particular order, my top 10 1980 albums; Heaven and hell- Sabbath A- Jethro Tull Permanent waves - Rush Chinatown- Thin Lizzy Women & Children 1st - Van Halen Just Testing- Wishbone Ash Ready and Willing- Whitesnake Drama - Yes Back in Black - ac/dc Ace of spades - Motorhead. Keep up the good work!

Out of the ten you picked, my favourite would be Just Testing by Wishbone Ash. Great video and I see you're getting a lot of views, it's a pity at least if some of them subscribed as it only takes a second.

Taking on board your apathy towards 80s Genesis (I still liked them then), I was wondering what you think to Steve Hackett's solo work. For me, since the Genesis guys all started doing solo work, I've always found Hackett's stuff to be the most interesting. He is the one who always stayed in the prog zone, and it is totally fitting I think that it is HE who keeps prog-era Genesis alive with his brilliant live shows.

Hiya, liked the vid and your discussion. So glad you still consider the Genesis foursome (from 1976) to be STILL prog. Of course they were, but some would argue that they're already veering towards pop commercialism. I absolutely don't buy that. It was the Genesis threesome (1978 onwards) who went that way. My ranking of the 7 Genesis prog albums is :- 1. Selling England By The Pound 2. Foxtrot 3. A Trick Of The Tail 4. Wind And Wuthering 5. The Lamb Lies Down On Broadway 6. Nursery Cryme 7. Trespass But that said, each of these 7 albums is at the very least very, very good. Been a Genesis fan for 50+ years now. PS Being a huge horse racing fan myself, I couldn't help noticing the nice print on the wall behind you. I'm guessing the 3 horses depicted might be (from the left) Arkle, Nijinsky, Desert Orchid.

I have the top 2. I have A on cd and Just Testing on vinyl. Plus 3 White Snake albums on original vinyl Come & Get It Love Hunter and 1987.

Progressive jazz poofter - "One Size Fits All" Silly tomfoolery - "Mothers - Fillmore East -June 1971" Best live - "Roxy and Elsewhere" and it's kid "Roxy by Proxy" or "Bongo Fury" Sheer insanity - "Burnt Weeny Sandwich" Orchestral - London Symphony Orchestra - Zappa Doo wop - "Chunga's Revenge" Strangeness - "Uncle Meat" And the first (that started it all) - "Freak Out." So many more... Peace on earth.

"The Knife" off Trespass kicked them into gear. You hit the nails on the heads. Peace on earth.

I only know of Genesis for their 80s music, which I like a lot. I must check some of your album rankings. Nice video.

Trespass has three masterpieces: White mountain, Visions of angels and The knife; Nursery cryme is a perfect album; from Wind & wuthering I like only Afterglow and All in a mouse’s night; Selling England has three masterpieces: Firth of fifth, After the ordeal and The cinema show; from A trick of the tail, I can listen with pleasure Entangled and Ripples; Foxtrot is hors-concours, so impossible to be ranked; and The lambs lies down has two jewels: carpet crawlers and The lamia. So my ranking would be 100% diferent, but it’s the joy of living: respect and try to understand other’s opinion. So many thanks for the video!

He wore the red dress and fox head at the Bataclan in Paris. I believe he only wore it on two occasions but I could be wrong.

My top 3 are 1 The Lamb 2 Selling England By The Pound 3 Foxtrot The lamb is an amazing album, and I agree with you that it is better than Topographic Oceans. Good video, keep it going.

A Blah and a stick of Rock. All my Genesis stuff is back home in Ireland. I am re-collecting all their stuff in Glastonbury I got some of the CDs in charity shops for £1 and the collection that you have shown are available for £5 and £8 in second hand record shops.
