"A" At Wolverhampton Wulfrun Hall 6 October 1999
The rock band "A" performing on their second tour of Monkey Kong at the Wulfrun. Fungus Supported and Dog Eat Dog headlines the show but "A" rocked the place! I am glad to say this show was one of my first gigs!

The audio of Youth of Britains second "single" Chav. It never got properly released so I doubt many, if anybody, has a copy of this. So here it is. I don't know if any of the band are out there but there are still people interested in your work. I'd love to hear Free Money.

Here is a video of "A" at the Exeter Cavern. It is quite bad because the video was taken at the back of the room and the stage was not that tall. The songs played are Took it Away and Monkey Kong. I have some more of this performance.

I was going to make a proper video for this but time was against me so here is the draft video of the song that is about takeaway food. It was written and recorded in under 20 minutes and lasts a grand total of 44 seconds. This one is more of a joke song than a serious effort (just in case you were wondering), but slightly more serious tunes will be on offer soon.

Youth of Britain performing their song entitled Chav at the Carling Academy in Birmingham. This was during their support tour for the Prodigy. The sound on this video is extremely poor as it was recorded on a phone.
I was never the biggest A fan, but i enjoyed this set very much while waiting for Daphne and Celeste. So much so, bought their album after this festival. They were easy to find in HMV back then, but an absolute nightmare to find on Spotify today!
I posted this on another RUclips video but I reckon it deserve a copy/paste... Loved and still love Cay's music. Anet was a total sweetheart as well - I spoke to her twice, once after a gig in Portsmouth Pyramids I think, around 1999 supporting Feeder, and to kid me she said some inspiring things. Years later when I worked in Denmark Street (2004 maybe) I met her again and we had a more in-depth conversation. As coincidence would have it, I was wearing the CAY t-shirt from their album (yellow text) on it, think I'd bought that at the gig years previously. Honestly really liked her, thought her voice was awesome, and most of Nature Creates Freaks still holds up including the mighty title track. One of the few post-grunge outfits I thought who added something to rock music rather than just repeat bits of it. It's sad she passed - crippling addiction to heroin I suppose, from the little knowledge that I can gather about it. Band name, for anyone who doesn't know it, came from their song Cool As You, something about booking a gig and not having a band name so Anet made one from the initials of the song title. Probably read that in Kerrang! and a lot of this is pre internet archiving I reckon...
Hi Gary. I originally posted this video but have long since lost the login details… Thanks for the post. It’s always great to hear from other fans who love this band. They cast a big shadow in their relatively short time as a group. I heard Anet died after being struck I by a tram or train in her home city of Amsterdam. Mark Bullock (original drummer) said that she was sober and of sound mind at the time. Have you heard the five track mini album that is on their band camp page. Serves as a fitting send off for the group. All the best

I was in that crowd in 2020, this was the first time i ever saw A they were amazing
Fantastic live band
I saw them at Leeds 2000 and will always remember in "I Love Lake Tahoe" when it stops near the end (just before the last chorus), they started up with the main riff of Van Halen's "Jump" before going back into Tahoe...... I wonder if they did it at Reading as well but it was cut from the broadcast?
They did do that at Reading but it was during a song called Over It. I saw them do it a few times over the years. On their 2019 tour they dropped it in the middle of the song Warning.

It made sense for them to drop it when they did during Lake Tahoe though, would have been just after Jason started saying "jump, jump, jump, jump" on this one First time I saw them or heard of them was at that show, (saw them again at Leeds 2002) fell in love with them right away.... also loved their stage setup with the two higher up and the gold backdrop, made them stand out more

I was there. Fantastic day and a sad farewell to WS&MR for a job that showed the big boys how it was done properly.

@@slavinicus Sadly yes. She passed away in June 2011.

@@slavinicus After Cay Split - due to drug abuse and conflicts in the band - Anet completely fell off the radar for the next decade. Apparently she moved back to the Netherlands at one point, where she got hit by a train and died on June 15th 2020. One of her former band members wrote an interesting blog post about the band and Anet's death, back in the day.

Haha, this is so cool, Jason striking up The Police's "King of Pain" at 3:29 min.! Given that he pretty much sounds like Sting (on steroids), and kinda does look like him in this video. One of the most underrated bands of the early 2000s!
