Gender Dysphoria and Euphoria: my thoughts and feelings on the subject

Here I go in to what gender dysphoria and euphoria are and the spectrum of those feelings, using examples from my own experience of being a trans guy. Said with love and respect for all trans folk out there. Please feel free to let me know your feelings on the subject in the comments and how these things effect you or don't effect you.

Discrimination and Rejection as a Trans Midwife
Просмотров 1,9 тыс.4 года назад
Here I describe three incidents where I've had issues because I'm trans in midwifery. Please note that I fully respect a person's right to be cared for by a midwife that makes them feel comfortable, this is about my feelings when I do get rejected as a carer. But I always sign post to a new midwife as appropriate.

Wow x congratulations on so many things 🙏💖 I was so sad to hear about how the doctor treated you, how awful, I can relate, when I was in my early 20's (now 44) I was raped & I went to a clinic to talk to someone & she lectured me on how I was dressed and that us girls all ask for it looking the way we do! Needless to say I didn't go further. I have now healed from it & did it myself & have a wonderful hubby now so I'm at peace with it all 💚 so happy for you, I hope you really enjoy your new job x Sam 🙏🌈
Can’t comment on your newest video as comments are turned off but I really randomly thought of you today, went on your channel to see if you’d posted recently and it came up as an update 1 hour ago!! Super weird. Glad to see you’re doing wel and landed your dream job, everything works out in the end 🥰
Hello Nathan. Hope you are well. Will you be doing any more updates. I’ve missed your videos
Very useful thank you.
Beautiful use of positive language "our love doesn't change" that's all children need... Love 💚
This really made me think, thank you so much for your thoughts. Its a topic ive thought a lot about and its nice to hear a really well thought through point of view on it. I have always felt really strongly about the polarisations in toys, the same as you but there really are so many layers, so thank you again x
That’s a man
Oh, my sweet. My heart hurts for you as you struggle through this and wage war against an enemy that you don’t know how to fight. You even said it yourself, those demons are oppressing you. But I know Someone who can set you free and deliver you from those demons. His name is Jesus. He loves you so much and paid a huge price to see you delivered so that He could have a wonderful friendship with you. Seek him out. He loves you and longs to reveal himself to you. ... Hugs and more hugs, my friend. I believe that today is the day of change. Somethings going to happen today and you are going to have a God-encounter. Faith moves mountains and casts out demons!!! Peace to you, my friend.
So sad about the home and birth centre births. 😢
Nice channel, keep it up. I think you should take a look at SMZeus . c o m it will help you get the views you deserve!
Thank you for this Nathan! X
I think you are all incredible and brave and amazing
That's so nice! Thank you for standing with us.
Very well thought through and explained 👍
Such an interesting video!
Hi Nathan, I was signposted to your vlogs because I was at the MVP meeting you attended today and away from my role as co-chair of that group, I figured that this is the best place for me to dump a comment! Thank you for these videos and the work that you do. My personal story involving trans life is that my sister in law is MTF and going through physical transition. It was all very sudden and not particularly predictable, which made witnessing her life in that euphoric moment feel very shaky, unrelatable and uncomfortable, especially when it came to explaining the sudden transition to our children. I've constantly been seeking more insight into how it feels to be trans and I have to say I find your videos the most helpful. And thank you so much for coming along to our meeting.
Hi there, great to attend the MVP meeting yesterday, I was thinking of making a video about it?? Haha. It can be a shock when someone comes out, a lot of trans people go very far in the opposite direction for a while to try and combat their own feelings. None of us want to feel this way. I'm so glad my videos can help your insight into what we go through and also the best thing you can do for your sister in law is educate yourself, so thank you and keep going. P.s don't worry about the kids, they are the most accepting, adaptable and open-hearted of all of us. Also just think of the value of them having a trans person in their lives, they will grow up understanding and become strong allies and hopefully also feel freedom to be themselves <3
@@nathantransmidwife6836 oh yes feel free to make a video about the meeting and then I can post it to our MVP Facebook page too. Are you on community? I don't believe I've ever seen you on post natal ward at the Conquest?
I have one daughter and three sons. There is no such thing as gender stereotypical toys in our home! 😆 Buy play dough or drawing pads for other peoples kids! That's what I do!
Hahaha good! Yes, that might help me avoid another tesco meltdown...
Yay. It’s been so long. Good to see you again
Ahah, sorry for the gap in videos, it was a busy time. Lots more coming! Hope you are well. Let me know if you have any requests? ;)
This video was such a joy to watch
Really summed it up well. I used to bind before top surgery and it was uncomfortable and hot (although less so once I was on T as my chest became less sensitive to pressure). I also used to pack until I started having a relationship with someone who gave me the confidence to be myself, if that makes sense.
It does make sense, painful amounts of sense! I'm so glad you're free of binding and packing now and have more self assurance. But also that my video made you feel understood. Thanks for joining the channel :)
Unfortunately, there will always be people like this Nathan. People still have such preconceived notions about trans individuals and you can't please everyone. See it more that she wasn't the client for you rather than you weren't the midwife for her.
Kimbo, your comment meant a lot to me, I do deal with a lot of feelings of guilt about not being able to cater for everyone, but there is no need. It's okay that for some few clients, the partnership won't be right and I'm learning to accept that. It is definitely in the moment of rejection that it hurts the most.
@@nathantransmidwife6836 you are wonderful. Don't you forget that!
Oh dude! You are so bloody strong to be talking about these issues and be so caring and loving. Proof of what an incredible health care professional you are. I hope one day you won’t need to put on a brave face or sacrificing yourself and your identity for others. ❤️ I love you dude
So glad to have you in my life AJ, thank you for always being a second away in my phone.
Have seen you post on the group and was so excited to see that you had a RUclips channel!! Loved this video, I'm just so sorry for all the hard moments you've had ❤ as a S/M, it's really great to see someone posting such important content like this!
I DO have a channel! Thanks so much for watching :) I appreciate the feedback as it makes me keep doing it. Wishing you all the best with your studies.
@@nathantransmidwife6836 Aw thank you so much, Nathan! Excited to keep watching your videos :)
Don’t you change for anyone! You are Nathan! The families who do not wish to be cared for by you are missing out on having a fantastic, caring and knowledgable midwife. They are choosing to miss out on this! However you should never feel guilty. Women choose different midwives, doctors etc for lots of different reasons, and that’s ok. We are very lucky that we have the right to choose! Keep going! I bet those women that have refused your care will hear from a friend or something about this fantastic trans midwife who cares for them and they will feel sorry that they judged you x
Ahah thank you so much. I won't change, I honestly can't go back now, the thought makes me sick. Just have to keep on keeping on and know that I make a difference and it's okay that some clients want a different midwife.
Just be your lovely true self. I really enjoyed listening to your story. I could speak to you for hours. Stay positive. We will all be judged in one way or another regardless. That’s just humans for you. Much love x
What a nice thing to hear, thank you. I'm always up for talking. I must keep doing videos too!
Also you're so right.
I’ve been a ‘lurker’ on your channel for quite some time and I’ve watched every video you’ve made. I just wanted to say thank you for so openly sharing your story with us, you come across as so relatable and likeable. There’s always a smile on your face and you bring energy and enthusiasm to everything you talk about! It’s also really interesting hearing of your experience of being newly qualified as there’s really very little out there on social media about this yet lots about being a student. I qualified last July but only worked two months before having to go off with pregnancy related health issues and by the time I return next April I will have been off 17 months! I am petrified of returning if I’m totally honest haha!
Hi Jodie, Wow I didn't know anyone had watched every video haha. Thanks so much, that's really nice feedback and makes me keen to keep doing it :) Is there anything specific you want me to do a video on? Seen as you're a fan ;) haha. Ahh that IS a hard gap. But they will know that and that you didn't get much time to consolidate before either. I wonder if you could have a bit more supernumery time when you come back? I'm sure they'll look after you.
Nathan TransMidwife Nathan TransMidwife yeah that’s what I’m hoping for! I’m going to ask if I can do a few KIT days after Christmas so I don’t feel quite so out the loop too I think! Time will tell haha, a few midwives have said it’s like riding a bike haha so I’m hoping it’ll be like I never left ;) I find all of your videos interesting, I particularly liked the informative one on caring for trans people as a birth worker, I found it really helpful as someone with not much experience in that area, but equally I find hearing about your personal journey really interesting and actually inspiring! I’m also a member of wholehearted midwives although I’ve never posted so if you do ever find you’re at a loose end and want to chat you can always message me on there, I believe I’m the only Jodie on there! Just keep being you, you’ll have fans like me you probably don’t even know exist! Xx
Whoop whoop newly subscribed, Loving the energy!! Ooooo I can’t wait to qualify!!! I start studies in 2 weeks😻😻<< floyd... I love your videos they are so insightful!
Oh gosh Natalie that was such a nice comment and gave me a big silly grin! All the best with your training. Has part 2 uploaded now? I like Floyd's little moment of glory haha
Hi Nathan. My maternal instincts are drawing me towards you, maybe it’s compounded by your ginger ness ( two of my children are red headed ) . You are clever and balanced and I wish there was a power or magic to make your Struggles less dysphoric. Excuse me for veering out of my lane but if I Can offer one gift , it would be to transition to plant based foods unprocessed. I am being serious. I say this from a place of admiration.
This is so helpful, thank you so much!
Thank you for doing this work! My husband gave birth to our beautiful daughter 15 months ago and we are just now settling down after the hormonal/emotional/life change turmoil. It was a lot!
Dear Ramona, huge congratulations on the arrival of your daughter. I am SO proud that my videos might help your husband and yourself to feel understood. He should feel like a warrior. Lots more videos coming, I want to get my partner on the channel to talk about our experiences as a couple and as parents together too. Thanks for being on the channel.
Dear people - thank you for fiercely defending me and in effect so many other trans people who do not fit perfectly into the little boxes that certain people cannot see beyond. I have made the decision to block that person mainly because they were being viciously transphobic by the end saying 'men can't have babies' as well as truscum. And I don't want others perhaps more delicate or confused than me to read that and doubt their identity. To clarify, I am not confused about who I am, I am just a complex human with different experiences. The good thing about the commenter is they have got this video like 400 views in a day ;) ahah
Sorry Bub I shouldn't have engaged them x
Trolls will be trolls. But they inadvertantly create more love for something that they hate - ha ha!. Well done for blocking.
Crazy informative! The world needs more of you, many people want to learn but are scared to ask. You however give the answers to some questions we didn't even know we had. Thank you ❤️❤️
Such a wonderful comment, you make me feel inspired to keep going. More videos coming, stay tuned.
YOU GO BABY BOY ❤ YOU'RE MAKING THE WORLD A BETTER PLACE FOR EVERYONE xxxxxxxxxxx
Deni you are so cute, thank you for being here xx
I would just like to say thank you for talking so honest about these feeling and explaining them.
And I thank you for hearing them and for being here, it helps me to keep going. If I don't say it who will, right? Let us all make the world a little more open and honest.
Thank you! So informative and helpful. Are there any other resources you can point me to regarding trans care in maternity? I have my dissertation in mind!
when you said she sometimes says "my other dad" my heart was so full OMG💔
Ahaha I'm so glad. They are precious beans!
Thanks, I'm still working out what I think about so many transgender-related matters but you are doing a great job of informing and adding to my knowledge. Good videos, very clear. Best wishes.
Keep on working on it ;) I'm glad my videos are giving you real information and experience, be careful with the sources you trust on the issues, there is a lot of hate in the world.
Oh god I'm so sorry you went through this but it is hilarious when you say things like 'either she thinks trans people don't have sex with their genitals or...' made me lol x
Haha I love to know I make people laugh, it makes me feel euphoric af xD
Ahh I know how you feel with the Nebido I started last year and I still get a bit of pain my but cheek just getting used to being stabbed 🤣
Ahah glad to hear it might get better then! Another guy I saw on fb said it never gets better and is always that painful D:
I can't believe the doctor who was rubbish about the contraception question!
Yeeaah, that is my life at the moment :P and why I'm doing this. You gotta laugh sometimes.
Thank you Nathan for taking the time to plan and put together this video. I found it very interesting and insightful. Do we know if there is any research being conducted currently?
I'm really glad to hear that :) Well it's currently very difficult to target research in maternity at any LGBTQ+ group because no UK hospital Trust currently takes info at bookings re sexuality and gender identity. My colleague and friend Dr Mari Greenfield is working on getting the message out there that this needs to change. There are some studies about experiences of LGBTQ+ people and birth but they are small. Let's change that in our lifetime!
I don't find it a strange rant. I think it's fantastic to have a resource to be able to learn some of the terminology, and customs, of an aspect of life that I am not familiar with. Thank you for sharing your heart & thoughts. I will be more considerate of how much it matters to "pass", and be more aware of the impact of my curiosity.
Thank you so much. It means everything to us when people educate themselves because every person who will respond to us in the right way makes the world a bit easier to navigate. It does mean a lot to most trans people to 'pass' but it's important to note it's not important to everyone. I need to do a video on it! hehe.
Thankyou, so helpful
You're so welcome.
I am not a birth worker but I found this video extremely cool and interesting!
That's great! Sorry of course it is for anyone interested <3
