Solving Hard Hot Start Ferrari 328/308 & Mercedes 450/280/500 Bosch Fuel Injection Accumulator
Bosch part number (OEM): 0438170004 ($187) URO Parts replacement: 0004760121 ($109)
The Collector Car Guru Shows the how to replace the Fuel Accumulator on a 1986 Ferrari 328 GTS, which is the most common reason your Bosch Jetronic fuel injected 328/308/Mondial and Mercedes 280/450/500 is starting and immediately dying when cold and has to crank forever with hard hot starting. It's a simple fix that costs less than $120.
If the accumulator is not your problem, other likely culprits for the same starting symptoms are (in order of likelihood):
1. Leaky check valve on outlet of fuel pump
2. Leaky o-ring in fuel pressure regulator section of fuel distributor
3. Leaky fuel injectors

    Totally disagree. I am not 6'4", so I don't care how much room such persons need. The simple fact is that the Honda is the best built, the best looking, and importantly the best equipped of the Kei trucks. Most of the other vehicles you will see are clapped out work trucks. Far more Hondas were used for carrying passengers, and had more options, and less mistreated. More of them have A/C. The parts support both through Honda, and the aftermarket is superior. Honda still services it's Kei trucks through the parts network. There are more Hondas out there. The mid engine, and Honda's full time AWD make it unstopable here in the Northeast. And, sorry to repeat, but the construction, engineering and materials of a Honda are better than it's competitors. Aftermarket? Unless you have a Honda, there is no aftermarket. While the Honda is not fast, none of them are. The half a Goldwing 3 cylinder will make power at high rpm, and frankly, you learn to work with it. A fullu upholstered interior and real A/C make it an easy choice. And BTW, the Honda van will easily take a six foot plus driver. The Honda is the other choice, and superchargers are out there- in vans, but I'll be darned if Subies aren't the ugliest of all the Kei vehicles- just like their road cars. Hey, everyone has an opinion, and I'm just pointing out that depending on your circumstances and priorities, the competition can come out quite differently. I've been driving an Acty Street G van with 5 speed, AWD and A/C for 5 years now, and I just love it. Bulletproof, at least once you get the carburetor sorted out. Hold out for fuel injection and power steering. With upgraded wheels and passenger car radials, the street behavior of the Honda is outstanding. Oh, and you didn't mention that when you share a cab with the engine, the smell and heat are your constant companion.

So for those that are lucky to not have the restriction of a JDM import being 25 years or older (just another benefit of being in Canada), or can find one that is built after they stopped using the ECVT in 1995....

    When I hit the horn on my 1975 the horn relay pings but horn doesn't work.I replaced relay but same thing.any ideas?

    • @CollectorCarGuru
      @CollectorCarGuru Месяц назад

      It's most likely your horn units themselves. (If the relay clicks, it's doing its job.) There should be two horns (low tone and high tone) mounted in the nose of the car. The power wire from the relay goes to the driver's side horn and then goes to the passenger-side horn. Connecting one lead of a test light to the power wire, the other to the frame and then pushing the horn button should illuminate the test light. Alternatively, you can run a wire from the positive side of the battery to the terminal on the horn -- ground should be via the body of the horn through the mounting bolt. Chances are the horns have both failed, but it's also possible 1)rust and grime are preventing a good ground 2)the wire to the horns broke 3) your car had its horns removed during a previous front-end collision. GM horns also sometimes start working again after being soaked with WD40 and hit with a hammer. (Some horns also have a knurled knob to change pressure on the horn speaker, so using a pair of pliers move it back and forth to a different position...but don't expect it to continue working long if it does come back to life.) A pair of horns can be purchased for about $15 on Amazon, so that's the route most people take.

    • @edwardtasi2905
      @edwardtasi2905 Месяц назад

      @CollectorCarGuru there is no power going to the drivers side horn? Bad ground perhaps or broken wire?

    • @CollectorCarGuru
      @CollectorCarGuru Месяц назад

      @@edwardtasi2905 Should be easy to test. Clip one side of the circuit tester to the horn power wire and touch the other side to a known good ground (clean metal on the frame or engine...or even run a test lead wire to the negative side of the battery), then push the horn button. If it lights, it's bad ground. If it doesn't, the wire has no continuity. You'll need a second person to push the horn to see in real time or just prop your phone and video while you push it and play video back.) If the ground is good and the horn unit is good, then just look at a wiring diagram to trace the power wire from the relay to the horn so it can be replaced. By the way, there are many threads on this issue on CorvetteForum.com

    • @CollectorCarGuru
      @CollectorCarGuru Месяц назад

      @@edwardtasi2905 Here is a good explanation: There should be a horn relay (or at least the connector for it) in a three-wire breakout to the left and almost above the fuse box--yes it's a pain to see The three wires leading to the horn relay are: Orange--power from the CTSY circuit. Black--ground coming from the steering column and contained in the "harmonica" connector whose other end is the turn signal switch. Dark Green--this is power to the horn. The Dark Green wire is energized (+12V) by the horn relay when the horn button is pressed. The horns are grounded to the chassis so there's only one wire feeding them. From the relay, the Dark Green wire routes back behind the fuse box to the big connector that goes through the firewall. After that it follows a large bundle of wiring heading forward and sort of tucked up under the left (driver) fender. It will break out in the front left of the car ahead of the radiator. The single wire simply chains via the connector on the first horn to the second horn. Testing the circuit is easy. Make certain you have +12V (constant) at the orange wire leading to the relay. Make certain that you get ground at the black wire leading to the relay when you press the horn button. If good so far, make sure you have +12V at the dark green wire with the relay installed and horn button pressed. If the relay is CLICKING, but you're not getting 12V at the relay where the green wire is attached, the relay is still actually bad or the harness it's plugged into has bad contact.

    Nice video. Top place for me is the F6 660cc Suzuki Carry/Every in terms of ease of maintenance and abundance of parts. Trucks and vans are driven daily and are used as workhorses in my country. You could not buy kei trucks brand new in our country as well. They are JDM surplus units. I seldom see Daihatsus, Mitsubishi, Hondas and the Subaru kei truck is a unicorn. Also wanted to share that there is a Mazda rebadge for Suzuki called Autozam. My first ride is an Autozam dropside pickup kei truck. I had lots of fun with it. Greetings from the Philippines.

    Daihatsu copen is better than them all we have had them in uk Spec with either the kei 660Turbo but for some reason Uk copens have 69bhp & also the non kei 1300cc. They have electric folding roof leather heated seats , cruise control.electric windows , airbags etc from.02 to 2012 .The mk2 from 2012 has everything but with fabric electric convertible roof. The Honda S660 is probably the best but they are imports as we don't have restrictions a lot are now here oldest been 2015. So Canadians can import Daihatsu copen mk1s now for earlier cars America still has 3 years.& 2040 before the Honda S660 which in the UK start about £14000 as there's that many now why go to the expense of importing 1. Regarding the Suzuki cappuccino it was sold from Brand new in the UK in kei spec from 91 to 95.

    76 C3. My temp gauge works but bounces all over the place. Itll pause for a second on the correct temp, then start bouncing everwhere again. Not sure if its the actual gauge or something is grounding or what. Car sat for 21 yrs. I pulled the motor to refreshen everthing up. My father owned the car before me and he said it worked fine before. I checked the connectiin at the sensor and it all looks fine. Not sure where to go from this point.

    • @CollectorCarGuru
      @CollectorCarGuru 2 месяца назад

      Very simple: You have a loose connection at the sender, a frayed wire from the sender to the gauge or a loose connection at or inside the gauge. Use a multimeter or test light to isolate where the bad connection is.

  • @hurricaneusa

    Your analysis is spot on. I have a 0:13 77 C3 and while it's been a major pain at times like the multifunction turn signal switch unique to 77. But at the end of the day e everyone loves it as much as I do. This is my 4th vette, had a new 95, 89 convertible and a junk 82 crossfire. The 95 was a great car. Set the cruise at 100mph and still got 24 miles per gallon in 6th gear. Bur the C3 style is a classic corvette to me with high fenders and shark like looks even though it drives like a truck lol. The drive train is absolutely bullet proof as you put it. The most dependable car I've owned. Sits for a long time and has never let me down. But it is a labor of love to be sure.

    There really wasn't ever a debate about what constitutes a "real Porsche". The only people that ever said X or Y wasn't a "real Porsche" were the butt hurt 911 owners. It's simple, if Porsche slapped it's badge on it and you can drive it, it's a "Real Porsche". The same argument continues to be made to this day by the same exact moronic group of people but now it's the Cayman/Boxster etc. Basically they don't like the idea that someone on a normal income can become a member of the "Porsche Club" without having to spend 150k+. Sure, there are a few people who argue based on the drivel spewed by elitists but these are the same people that would say and do anything just to be a part of something that makes them look cool. In other words, the idiots that view a Porsche 911 and up (price wise) as a status symbol are the ones that say anything on the more budget friendly side are "not the real deal". A true Porsche enthusiast would never dismiss the most interesting models ever produced. The 914, Boxster (and it's derivatives) and even the Cayenne (not a particular fan of these) all have interesting development stories and engineering behind them. Anyone who has ever actually driven a 914, Boxster etc knows they are Porsche through and through. The 914 feels like a perfectly refined, updated 356 with better handling. The rumble of the boxer 4 right behind you and the characteristic slope of the front trunk all scream Porsche. Honestly, outside of racing I would have to say the 914 is my favorite classic Porsche. An absolute joy to drive swiftly to coin Jay Leno. You don't drive a 914 to get from A to B, you drive it to enjoy it so who cares how long it takes to get there. Apologies for my strong wording but I have 0 tolerance for elitist collectors, particularly the type that think money makes up for stupidity. Some of the arguments I have heard/read in favor of NARP are absolutely moronic and they are almost always made by wannabe collectors trying to artificially inflate the value of their own collections. A true collector will talk smack about any car, until they have pushed the price down and bought it, then the tune changes ;) The 914 goes from "a VW with a Porsche badge" to "a fascinating piece of Porsche history" with the exchange of a title. NARP also shouldn't be confused with NATP. Not a True Porsche stems from the 928, 944 etc not being rear/rear mid engined, they were a departure from traditional Porsche design. Those that said they were not real Porsches fell into NARP camp, most simply felt they were too far of a departure from the ethos of the Porsche brand at the time. Still great cars and certainly real Porsches.

    Hey, nice video, but I got a better tip. When this happens on my Lincoln welder, switch power settings and try before doing anything else. Why? I have no clue, but it works. Something in the control board locks up I guess, and to reset it, switch power settings and play with the wire feed speed. It has worked on my welder numerous times. Annoying to say the least

    Major mistakes here. The Car Guru says any oil filter will work. Not true! There are only three oil filters that will work on 308/328's. There is also a trick to minimize or eliminate oil spillage when removing the filter. Obviously, he doesn't know it. Make sure you get your advise from a professional.

      That is NOT what was said. The context was that of the brands which FIT THE APPLICATION AND HAVE AN ANTI DRAINBACK VALVE, it doesn't matter which of the brands (Baldwin, UFI just happen to be the most common...although we never recommend FRAM). There are other filters that will work, which are the same general size/capacity, thread/anti-drainback but are very hard to get in the US. As for tricks to avoid spillage -- there are a gaggle of them (not limited to the standard drilling a hole in the top and sucking it out, or drilling into the side and draining into a bottle via a trough...Yes, we've tried them all...but the least amount of time is usually just placing rags underneath. We've found professional Ferrari dealer mechanics not to be the most knowledgeable, but hey, I'm sure you have all of the answers already.

      @@CollectorCarGuru I have just retired after fifty years of servicing not only Ferrari's but also a multitude of other exotic automobiles. I am a Factory trained Ferrari master mechanic and have owned three 308's including one I totally restored. I have run the Fram PH2804-1 oil filter without issue for decades, including on a Competition Daytona that was run multiple times in 12 and 24 hour endurance races. The only issue I ever saw with Fram filters was the sealing ring being blown out due to improper installation. The reason for using only the Fram, Baldwin or UFI filter is they have a stand off tube inside the filter to retain oil. No other filters have this. Why would anyone scrimp on buying something so important as an oil filter? One of the things I have learned over the years is NO one has all the answers when it comes to Ferrari's, but I am sure I have as much or greater knowledge of 308/328's as anyone in this country.

      @@ronclark1287 Frams used to be the standard throughout the 70s and 80s, and like you said, I used to see them on every classic Ferrari in the US from 275s through Testarossas. The problem is that Fram changed its manufacturing over 20 years ago and has become one of the least overall reliable filter brands. Specifically, the adhesive joining of the pleats separates frequently, causing oil to go through without filtering. I've seen it plenty of times with my own eyes and in photos probably exceeding 100 times by now. It's just like with physicians, information changes, so if one do not stay current with updated information, one might be unintentionally harming rather than helping the patient with what once was the standard of care.

    4:33 Thank you for your help. I was having the same problem with the gearbox, but i took some channellocks and just broke it loose. However, saying that you've done it the correct way. In my case, it's always an emergency weld. So I got to play with it and there you have it. As you said, always, check the selector it has to be right on target. On a on a weld pack one hundred

    Good morning CCG, a wonderful and honest video on the 1982 Corvette. Thank you ! I owned a 1982 Corvette with the two-tone paint job and I loved it very much. I too did not mind the cross-fire injection. In the years I owned it I never had a problem. A very good ride and cruising car. I own a newer Corvette now and honestly will be looking for another 1982 in the near future. Thank you again for this wonderful video my friend. This is the best one I have seen on the cool '82.

    Wow best place for info on learning about Kei trucks without any knowledge, I looked around a few sites in an hour and videos but nothing came close to your info. Thanks for the detailed video with very clear way of picking what I need and want out of a Kei truck and if it was something that could work for me.

    The driving position would be better with the original deep dish steering wheel. You seem to be at full stretch on this one. Those 5 mph bumpers are very heavy - nearly 100 pounds each. Removing them will improve performance in every respect. The other end of the gear lever directly moves the shift forks. There is no linkage, which gives a great, positive feel. Spica fuel injection is great - fully timed, a throttle for each cylinder, easy to adjust and tune, low maintenance. A Spica twin cam is one of the best engines ever made from the 'easy maintenance' perspective. .

      We replaced the bumpers that were on there with better ones, and indeed they are heavy! (Not quite 100 pounds -- more like 60.) We were given a set of chrome bumpers, which we gave to the buyer of this Spider.
